Introduction

Abstract

Management Information Systems is an important factor in the present world . The objectives of the study to create eagerness for using MIS in every sector in all activities for the betterment of condition . In this term paper , we have tried to present main related topics of MIS (that means literature review and it includes about MIS, Computer software , DBMS , telecommunication and networking ) , objectives , beneficiary persons , way of finding information , company review ( it includes historical background , corporate overview , practices of MIS in this organization ) , MIS practices and challenges in Bangladesh and finally providing probable recommendation .

Literature Review

MIS refers broadly to a computer-based system that provides managers with the tools for organizing, evaluating and efficiently running their departments. In order to provide past, present and prediction information, an MIS can include software that helps in decision making, data resources such as databases, the hardware resources of a system, decision support systems, people management and project management applications, and any computerized processes that enable the department to run efficient

Business process has been made easier to execute by developing some enterprise based software or structured software such as TPS, MIS , DSS are those who serve management levels by providing data and information from internal and external sources. As their non-flexibility in operation and performance and non response to the concurrent change , the enterprise wide software such as ERP , SCM , CRM has been developed . ERP integrates all the information from department and centralizes them . SCM and CPM are serving to make efficient supply and purchase , finding potential customer at minimum cost and serving them best . All these factors help to make business process more efficient .

A Database Management System (DBMS) is a set of computer programs that controls the creation, maintenance, and the use of a database. It allows organizations to place control of database development in the hands of database administrators (DBAs) and other specialists. A DBMS is a system software package that helps the use of integrated collection of data records and files known as databases. It allows different user application programs to easily access the same database. DBMSs may use any of a variety of database models, such as the network model or relational model. In large systems, a DBMS allows users and other software to store and retrieve data in a structured way. Instead of having to write computer programs to extract information, user can ask simple questions in a query language .

Hardware refers to the physical parts of a computer and related devices. Computer hardware is formed by various peripherals those are connected with each other . Hardware is a comprehensive term for all of the physical parts of a computer, as distinguished from the data it contains or operates on, and the software that provides instructions for the hardware to accomplish tasks.

Telecommunication is the exchange of information over significant distances by electronic means. A complete, single telecommunications circuit consists of two stations, each equipped with a transmitter and a receiver. MIS with it’s field of telecommunication has made business competitive in the era of globalization with the help of internet creating digital market and digital product that facilitates e-business and e-commerce . Networking is the practice of making contact and exchanging information with other people, groups or institutions. Usually, networking occurs with other people who have interests in similar areas. The goal of the networking relationship may be to further your personal employment opportunities or to cultivate new clients or the expansion of business relationships. Networking is also a term of art used in the computer industry. Different wireless devices such as Bluetooth , wi-fi , wi max , 3G has made instant internet access , enabling chatting , sending email messaging that have showed new sphere in the field of e-business .

Objectives of the study MIS assist decision makers, by providing the required information at various stages of decision making and

thus greatly help the organization to achieve its goals and objectives. To make updated for facing various critical situation . To Know about the understanding of MIS as a field of study and as a field of business. To know about the scenario of MIS practices in the world as well as in Bangladesh. To know the activities of MIS of an enterprise. To know about the MIS practices from global perspective. To indentify the problems of practices of MIS in Bangladesh . To provide recommendations to solve the problems for excellence performance in MIS .

Scope of the study

Scope of the study of MIS is vast . MIS is most highlighted factor in today’s world . The study may be helpful for students those are interested to make a carrier in this sector and related persons or company . It helps to make the people awareness abut the importance of MIS in both individual and organizational perspective .

Methodology

The Primary Data was collected from Head IT Infrastructure Managers in the Information System department of TEX-EBO International Bangladesh Limited by taking physical interview and collecting documentation which gave an insight into the procedures being followed with regards to the functioning of MIS.

The secondary data was taken from various online sources like the website of the company www.texebo-bd.com and various books of MIS.

The present situation of MIS practices in Bangladesh is improving day by day . Every department not only private but also govt. organizations are trying to practice MIS system in their activities . Some of the companies have advanced too far . These include Bank , Telephone operator , University , Organization , Hospital etc . Some MIS practices in Bangladesh are highlighted below –

Banking systems are now totally changing due to internet . All the transactions can be possible through electronic means . Account holder can withdraw or deposit money to ATM booth without going to bank. Now goods and services are sold over the internet . Example of e-commerce related sites – www.chokra.com Many departments of Bangladesh govt. have already introduced MIS systems of their activities .Electricity bill can be provided through mobile phone .Mobile phone is used to purchase advance train ticket .Varsity admission form and admission result can be known via mobile telecommunication service .Now hospitals receptionist can provide all the information about patient within a minute due to keeping database system .All the leading companies are used internet based system to recruit their employees .

Poor or insufficient infrastructural facilities .Unwillingness to invest money in this sector .Lack of awareness or poor knowledge abut practices or importance of MIS .Less internet speed .Lack of skilled techniqual human resources .Rearing traditional system .Lack of eagerness to receive new things .Technological dependency on other country . Above all lack of cooperativeness of government .

Recommendations for solving the problems to implement the MIS systems to achieve operational excellence in Bangladeshi enterprises

Making good infrastructural facility to adopt changing situation .Making fund to introduce or run MIS systems in organization .Taking various awareness activities to know the essence of MIS systems in this era .Trying to be self dependent on technological sector .Providing training or workshop for making skill human resources .At last , government support is too essential to implement the MIS systems in Bangladesh .

Conclusion

A management information system (MIS) is a system that provides information needed to manage organizations effectively. Management information systems involve three primary resources: technology, information, and people. Finally it can be undoubtedly said that if we want to walk with the globalization world , we must have to introduce MIS systems in every sector in our country . We need to make awareness of the people about the new technology and systems and it benefits . At last , if we able to make coordination within three primary resources of MIS then we may go so far within a short period .
