Miracles of Prophets mentioned in the Holy Quran

What is a MIRACLE?It is also characterized as an event that cannot be challenged or paralleled as it is not a usual event that takes place in everyday life.

An act beyond human power.

An event that appears so inexplicable by the laws of nature, that it is held to be supernatural in origin or an act of God.

Importance of miracles in Prophet hood

Miracles are only for prophets and they happen to prophets to support their call to Islam. Consequently, no one can discredit a prophet by coming up with something that is similar to a miracle.

A miracle is a sign attesting to the truth of the claim of Prophet Hood that a prophet makes.

People demanded for miracles!

And they swear their strongest oaths by Allâh, that if there came to them a sign, they would surely believe therein. Say: "Signs are but with Allâh and what will make you (Muslims) perceive that (even) if it (the sign) came, they will not believe?" (109) (Surah Al-Anaam)

They said: "You are only of those bewitched! (153) "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." (154)  (Surah Al-Shuara)

Miracles are from Allah

And they say: "Why are not signs sent down to him from his Lord? Say: "The signs are only with Allâh, and I am only a plain Warner." (50) Is it not sufficient for them that We have sent down to you the Book (the Qur'ân) which is recited to them? Verily, herein is mercy and a reminder (or an admonition) for a people who believe.[] (51) (Surah Al-Ankaboot)

1. Hazrat Dawud (A.S)

And indeed We bestowed grace on Dawud (David) from Us (saying): "O you mountains. Glorify (Allâh) with him! And you birds (also)! And We made the iron soft for him." (10) Saying: "Make you perfect coats of mail, and balance well the rings of chain armour, and work you (men) righteousness. Truly, I am All¬Seer of what you do." (11) (Surah Saba)

Iron was soft for him.Mountains and birds were subjected for him.

2) Hazrat Sulaiman (A.S)

And to Solomon (We subjected) the wind, its morning (stride from sunrise till midnoon) was a month's (journey), and its afternoon (stride from the midday decline of the sun to sunset) was a month's (journey i.e. in one day he could travel two months' journey). And We caused a fount of (molten) brass to flow for him, and there were jinn that worked in front of him, by the Leave of his Lord, And whosoever of them turned aside from Our Command, We shall cause him to taste of the torment of the blazing Fire. (12) They worked for him as he desired, (making) high rooms, images, basins as large as reservoirs, and (cooking) cauldrons fixed (in their places). "Work you, O family of Dâwud (David), with thanks!" But few of My slaves are grateful. (13) SURAH SABA

Wind was subjected for himMolten brass flowed for himJinn, men and birds worked for himHe knew the language of birds and animals.

3) Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S)

And (remember) when Ibrâhim (Abraham) said, "My Lord! Show me how You give life to the dead." He (Allâh) said: "Do you not believe?" He [Ibrâhim (Abraham)] said: "Yes (I believe), but to be stronger in Faith." He said: "Take four birds, then cause them to incline towards you (then slaughter them, cut them into pieces), and then put a portion of them on every hill, and call them, they will come to you in haste. And know that Allâh is All-Mighty, All-Wise." (260) (Surah Al-Baqara)

"Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allâh! Have you then no sense?" (67) They said: "Burn him and help your âlihah (gods), if you will be doing." (68) We (Allâh) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrâhim (Abraham)!" (69) ( Surah Al-Anbiya)

He had a child when he and his wife were too old.Replacement of a Hazrat Ismail with a sheep. (Sacrifice)Fire became cold and safe for him.A bird cut into pieces became alive.

4) Hazrat Yunus (A.S)

And, verily, Yûnus (Jonah) was one of the Messengers (139) When he ran to the laden ship, (140) Then he (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, (141) Then a (big) fish swallowed as and he had done an act worthy of blame. (142) Had he not been of them who glorify Allah, (143) He would have indeed remained inside its belly (the fish) till the Day of Resurrection. (144) But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, (145) And We caused a plant of gourd to grow over him. (146) (Surah As-Saaffat)

He remained in fish.A gourd plant grew over him.

5) Hazrat Musa (A.S) His infancy in his enemy’s place.Allah’s voice heard by him from fire.A dead man became alive to reveal the truth of his murder.A shining hand.A stick that became a giant snake.Path in the sea created for him.Directly spoke to Allah.Tried to see Allah.Twelve springs came out of a stone.

[Mûsa (Moses)] said: "Even if I bring you something manifest (and convincing)?" (30) [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] said: "Bring it forth then, if you are of the truthful!" (31) So [Mûsa (Moses)] threw his stick, and behold, it was a serpent, manifest (32) And he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white to all beholders! (33) Mûsa (Moses) said to them: "Throw what you are going to throw!" (43) So they threw their ropes and their sticks, and said: "By the might of Fir'aun (Pharaoh), it is we who will certainly win!" (44) Then Mûsa (Moses) threw his stick, and behold, it swallowed up all that they falsely showed! (45) And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. (46) Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamîn (mankind, jinn and all that exists). (47) "The Lord of Mûsa (Moses) and Hârûn (51)

And (remember) when Mûsa (Moses) asked for water for his people, We said: "Strike the stone with your stick." Then gushed forth therefrom twelve springs. Each (group of) people knew its own place for water. "Eat and drink of that which Allâh has provided and do not act corruptly, making mischief on the earth." (60) (Surah Al-Baqara)

And to Mûsa (Moses) Allâh spoke directly. (164) ( Surah An-Nisa)

6) Hazrat Saleh (A.S)

They said: "You are only of those bewitched! (153) "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." (154) He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known (155) "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day should seize you." (156) But they killed her, and then they became regretful. (157) ( Surah Shuara)

She- Camel came out of a mountain.

7) Hazrat Eesa (A.S)Miraculous birth without father.

Talked in cradle.Then she brought him (the baby) to her people, carrying him. They said: "O Mary! Indeed you have brought a thing Fariyy (a mighty thing). (Tafsir At-Tabari) (27) "O sister (i.e. the like) of Hârûn (Aaron) []! Your father was not a man who used to commit adultery, nor your mother was an unchaste woman." (28) Then she pointed to him. They said: "How can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?[]" (29) "He ['Īsā (Jesus)] said: Verily! I am a slave of Allâh, He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet;[]" (30) "And He has made me blessed wheresoever I be, and has enjoined on me Salât (prayer), and Zakât, as long as I live." (31) "And dutiful to my mother, and made me not arrogant, unblest. (32) "And Salâm (peace) be upon me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!" (33) (Surah Maryam)

She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me." He said: "So (it will be) for Allâh creates what He wills. When He has decreed something, He says to it only: "Be!" - and it is (47)

Allah took him up safely instead of death

And because of their saying (in boast), "We killed Messiah 'Īsā (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), the Messenger of Allâh," - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but the resemblance of 'Īsā (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not [i.e. 'Īsā (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary) A.S.]: (157) But Allâh raised him ['Īsā (Jesus)] up (with his body and soul) unto Himself (and he A.S. is in the heavens). And Allâh is Ever All-Powerful, All-

Wise. (158) (Surah An-Nisa)

And will make him ['Īsā (Jesus)] a Messenger to the Children of Israel (saying): "I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, that I design for you out of clay, a figure like that of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allâh's Leave; and I heal him who was born blind, and the leper, and I bring the dead to life by Allâh's Leave. And I inform you of what you eat, and what you store in your houses. Surely, therein is a sign for you, if you believe. (49) (Surah Al-E-Imran)

Cured leprosy.Cured blindness.Gave life to lifeless birds’ statues.He told what people ate at their homes and what they stored.

8) Hazrat Ayyub (A.S)8) Hazrat Ayyub (A.S)

And remember Our slave Ayyûb (Job), when he invoked his Lord (saying): "Verily! Shaitân (Satan) has touched me with distress (by ruing my health) and torment (by ruing my wealth)! (41) (Allâh said to him): "Strike the ground with your foot: This is (a spring of) water to wash in, cool and a (refreshing) drink." (42) And We gave him (back) his family, and along with them the like thereof, as a Mercy from Us, and a Reminder for those who understand. (43) (Surah Sad)

A spring of water oozed by striking the ground with his foot.A serious skin disease got cured.

9) Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H)

Glorified (and Exalted) is He (Allâh) [above all that (evil) they associate with Him]. Who took His slave (Muhammad SAW) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Harâm (at Makkah) to Al-Masjid-al-Aqsa (in Jerusalem), the neighbourhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him (Muhammad SAW) of Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer[] (1) (Surah Al-Isra)

10) Hazrat Yousuf (A.S)

"Go with this shirt of mine, and cast it over the face of my father, he will become clear-sighted, and bring me all your family." (93) (Surah Yusuf)

Blindness of his father was cured by his shirt.

11) Hazrat Ismail (A.S)Never ending spring of ZAMZAM water oozed in a barren place.

Zamzam is one of those signs. Chronologically it is the first, for when Ibraheem, the Patriarch left his wife and infant son at the barren valley, following Allah's command, he made a humble request:

"O our Lord! I have made some of my offspring to dwell in an uncultivable valley by Your Sacred House (the Ka'bah at Makkah) in order, O our Lord, that they may perform salaah (prayer). So fill some hearts among men with love towards them, and (O Allah) provide them with fruits so that they may give thanks."[Quran 14:37]

Importance Of Mentioning Miracles In

Holy QuranThese are extraordinary events occurring only for Prophets by the will of Allah. If all the non-believers were to unite their efforts in an attempt to match a prophet’s miracle they would only be met with failure. Reading these miracles in the Holy Quran increases our faith in Allah. As for the non-believers, they revert to Islam as they come to know the truth and Allah’s power.
