The demand for an excellent mixing quality andconsistently accurate dosing are a must whencombining additives with the virgin material at theprocessing machine.

The volumetric dosing and blending unit MINI-COLOR V meets and exceeds these requirements.Mounted between the machine hopper and thefeed throat of the plastics processing machine itrequires very little space.

A stainless steel cruciform in the mixing throatdivides the main component into two streams ofmaterial. They flow together with the additives atthe feed inlet producing a homogeneous mixture.

The optional METRO VL, a small compressed airloader, can be used to fill the additive hopperquickly.

METRO VL/MINICOLOR G VL (Fig. 1)The Venturi loader can be used for the automaticfilling of the additive hopper with granulate. Bothunits are installed by replacing the additive hopperlid and can easily be retro-fitted.

With METRO VL a level sensor in the hoppersignals the need for material and ensures that thehopper never runs empty. With MINICOLOR G VLthis is done using a weigh scale.

Mounting flange (Fig. 2)The mounting flange is designed so that it caneasily be mounted on different sized feed throats(min. 74mm - max. 90mm) without the need fordrilling.

Mixing neck (Fig. 3)The mixing cruciform is made of stainless steel. Itseparates the main material from the additives untilthey meet just above the throat of the processingmachine. They then flow together, resulting in anoptimum mix with no material separation.

Dosing (Fig. 4)The special angled dosing head eliminates materialtrickle. There are three different sizes of wearresistant dosing screws available and they can beremoved without the use of tools. During calibrationthe dosing head can be withdrawn in order tocollect and weigh the additive sample.

Controls

There are two types of controls available, anddosing can be either continuous for extrusionapplications or during screw-back time for injectionmachines. In conjunction with the brushless motorand control, the MINICOLOR V offers one of themost consistent and repeatable dosing rates on themarket today.

MINICOLOR S (Fig. 5)The standard control for either one or two dosingheads is available with or without timer.

COLOR A (Fig. 6)The innovative microprocessor control is designedfor optimum performance, simplicity of use andoffers:

Compact gravimetric dosing and mixing unit for onemain component and one masterbatch or additive ingranular form suitable for injection mouldingmachines, extruders and blow moulding machines.With the GRAVInet MC control up to two dosingheads can be operated.

The unit is based on the well tried MINICOLORconcept with gravity mixing funnel guaranteeing ahomogeneous material mix and eliminatingseparation.

GRAVICOLORGravimetric dosing andmixing units

Motan's GRAVICOLOR units mix andblend up to four materials precisely andwith maximum accuracy of blend. Thesemodular gravimetric blenders aredesigned for injection, blow mouldingand extrusion and provide throughputsup to 150kg/h.

Independent of recipes, materials or theoperational environment, IntelliBlendanalyses all process data achieving thebest possible operating point at any timethrough continuous self-optimisation.Recipe integrity results in an excellentand consistent product quality.

The GRAVICOLOR series forms part ofthe total Motan range of products andsystems for all stages of the manage-ment, conditioning and preparation ofplastic granules. Build quality plus theengineering and service standards whichMotan applies to all parts of its operationensure high performance and reliableoperation.

Dosing

Except for the additive micro-dosing onthe GRAVICOLOR 30 MD, all compo-nent materials are metered by theunique Motan cone-dosing system. Thisdosing system ensures that a high totalmaterial throughput can be achieved,even when metering a large number ofadditives.

On the GRAVICOLOR 30 MD, additivesor masterbatch are metered by an inno-vative and highly accurate micro-dosingunit. The additive is dosed into theweigh bin using a vertically aligned feed-screw.

Material storage bin

The stainless steel storage bins are of modular design andavailable in several different sizes. Some can be removedand all are easily accessible for cleaning. The designfeatures provide optimum flexibility for processing diffe-rent materials.

Monitoring

Large sight glasses in the storage bins and the front door ofthe units allow visual control of the entire dosing and mixingprocess.

Installation

GRAVICOLOR units can either be mounted on theprocessing machine or operated as a central mixing station.In the latter case, an optional support frame with hopperand suction box is available.

GRAVIreport (optional)With this PC program process data of up to 252 GRAVICOLORunits can be captured and evaluated via Ethernet.

Conveying

All GRAVICOLOR units can optionally be equipped with anintegrated conveying control which allows the control of upto seven hopper loaders with a blower station; i.e. materialhandling for a 4-component mixing station with processingmachine can, for example, be controlled and operateddirectly via the GRAVICOLOR.

For the installation of complex systems there is the possi-bility of networking several GRAVICOLOR units with eachother or with other Motan controls of the CONTROLnetfamily. This guarantees a high degree of flexibility.

Mixing chamber

The specially developed mixing chamber guarantees totalhomogenisation of the batches.

Recipe accuracy through IntelliBlend

This dosing system ensures a high total material throughput,even when metering large quantities of additives. Since eachcomponent is weighed individually and using IntelliBlend, anextraordinary recipe accuracy is achieved.

Cleaning and material changes

Fast material changes require easy access to all parts incontact with the material, to ensure efficient cleaning.Hinged lids and large, removable sight glasses ordemountable storage bins enable complete and thoroughcleaning of the bins.

Material changes are facilitated and simplified by thelarge front door, the removable weigh bin and the easilyaccessible mixing chamber.

All GRAVICOLOR parts in contact with material are madeof stainless steel, preventing contamination of thegranulate.

GRAVInet control

The operating unit can either be mounted on theGRAVICOLOR or operated remotely. In addition,integrated Ethernet technology enables operation via aMotan WEBpanel or a PC from any location. Furthercharacteristics are:
