Mindfulness simply be in the present moment is mindfulness.
As a central theme of the Buddhist tradition, its practice dates
back over two millennia, but has since spread into various
other spiritual and non-spiritual forms. What is the present
moment? Simply put, it is neither the past, such as thinking
about the events of last weekend, nor the future, such as
clinging to desires. It is the opposite of temporal life.
Self awareness and mindfulness enable us to be a self-
dependent and confidently and morally able to control our
actions. Together they give us wisdom. Mindfulness training
and techniques develop our analytical awareness to
complement our subjective self awareness to complete this
wisdom. If we think carefully there are subtle differences
between self awareness and mindfulness.
Self awareness gives us an understanding of what we are
doing, of our strengths and weaknesses, of our likes and
dislikes, of our personality, of our emotions. It is subjective.
Mindfulness gives us realisation and recall. It is a form of
awareness, but is analytical giving us observation without
judgement. It is objective.
Anyway... being mindful - being present or more conscious of
life as it happens - is truly the only way to live life to the
fullest. When you are consciously “present” in your daily
life...you enjoy your time with your friends and family more,
you see every situation with more clarity, you enjoy your food
in a different way and you are even more productive! Now,
this is a skill that takes practice, but it's SO worth it. Practice
these 5 steps to shift your consciousness into the present
moment TODAY.
Become aware of your thinking. If you find your mind
wandering to anxious thoughts about the future or past, bring
yourself back into the present moment. Focus on what you're
doing and enjoy it!
We are all guilty of only half-listening to someone during a
conversation. Instead of thinking about what you have to do
later on or about what you are going to say next, practice
being present and just enjoy the time you are spending with
them.
Stop multi-tasking! Do one task at a time, slowly and
deliberately. Make each action important and filled with
intention. This will boost your productivity.
In a fast-paced, busy world, it's extremely easy to cram food in
without much thought or intention. Remind yourself before you
start a meal to savour each bite and really appreciate the food
you're eating. (You will eat less this way too!)
Become silent and still (even for only 5 minutes a day!) and
become aware of your thoughts. This will ground you and will
actually train your brain to naturally stay in the present, in
your daily life. This simple act of mindfulness will enhance your
mood, health, relationships and so much more...so give it a try
this week!
The above 5 steps will be a starting point to a life where one is
able to master his or her mind in a way that would be about
creativity and success in anything that you put your mind to
do. If you desire to go the whole hug; where you will:
Master a simple exercise to begin with.
Find the truth about who controls your mind.
Discover how to control the constant "chatter" in your
mind.
Accept yourself as worthy and capable!
