Dear Parents and Community
I trust you all had an enjoyable five day
weekend and the Easter Bunny found his
way into your homes.
ILN LEADERSHIP DAY
In Week 8, Aiden Georgy and Lachlan
McCuish travelled to Dowerin to
participate in the ILN Leadership Day.
Both students spoke very highly of the
day and noted that the keynote speaker,
Mayor Rhys Williams, was a highlight
along with interacting with students from
other ILN schools to participate in
teambuilding activities conducted by
Adventureworks. Thank you very much
to Dowerin DHS for organising to the
day and to all of the sponsors.
HAT DONATIONS
Thank you very much to Paul and
Jocelyn Seymour for their kind donation
toward our new hats. We received very
generous donations from a number of
community members and businesses, and
are looking forward to receiving our hats
next term.
DENIM FOR DEAFNESS
Don’t forget that this Friday, the Student
Leaders are hosting a ‘Denim for
Deafness Day’. You are invited to wear
denim and bring a gold coin donation to
help raise funds for childhood deafness.
ANZAC CEREMONY
All parents and community members are
invited to attend our ANZAC Ceremony
being held Friday 13 April at 8:50am.
Each year, our two classes make
beautiful wreaths for our service. If you
have any flowers or greenery in your
garden we could utilise, please drop them
at school on Thursday the 12th.
TERM 2
On Monday 30 April, Miling PS staff
will be attending a Staff Development
Day in Wongan Hills with colleagues
within the ILN. Students return to school
on Tuesday 1 May.
Kind regards
ASHLYN SIVIOUR

27 MARCH 2018 — ASSEMBLY MERIT CERTIFICATE WINNERS.
Skye Georgy—Skye has had, and continues to have, a great start to the year. Her passion and enthusiasm for learning are to be admired. Skye always str ives to do her best and has produced some wonderful pieces of work in Engl ish. I always look forward to reading her wonderful ideas. Wel l done, Skye. Callum Barnard —This term, Cal lum has demonstrated outstanding effort toward his school work. He has worked especial ly hard in focusing on presenting his work to a high standard and has shown more pride in his work as a result. Keep up the fantastic work, Cal lum! Chloe Latham —Chloe is a quiet, hardworking student who always attempts tasks to the best of her abil ity. She is working part icularly hard in Spel l ing at the moment, and this has had a marked improvement in her abil ity to sound out unknown words. Keep up the great work, Chloe! Mikala Topham —Mikala has worked extremely hard in Mathematics this term and has displayed sound understanding in al l topics covered. She can measure accurately in centimetres and can identify which fract ion is larger from given examples. Well done, Mikala! Lachlan McCuish —Lachlan has stepped up this year into a Student Leader role and has displayed great leadership skil ls. He is always the first to offer assistance to both staff and students, and fo l lows our school values of k indness and cooperat ion during classroom tasks. Keep up the great work, Lachlan! A s h l e y D o u g l a s — A u s s i e o f t h e M o n t h — A shley has effortlessly transitioned into Year 2 this year, continuing to be a responsible role model in the Junior room. He consistently displays the Miling Primary School values of kindness and cooperation, always ensuring that everyone is included and getting along. Keep up the great work, Ashley.
Our BUZ programs are certainly at full throttle, charging towards the end of term.
In BUZ Friends we’ve been learning about dealing with anger and conflicts. The BUZ Hopscotch method of conflict resolution is one of my favourite parts of the program; it makes restorative justice simple for kids.
In BUZ Power we’ve also been discussing how to deal with anger. A major theme for both groups has been that anger naturally passes with time and that once we’re calm we should deal with the problem that caused the anger. However, sometimes we choose to hold onto anger to try to get our way. Often, when we do this, we mostly just hurt ourselves. Communication and working together have also been recent themes in BUZ Power.
There’s so much good stuff to cover in the program!

DENIM FOR DEAFNESS On Friday April 6 (Week 10), the Student Leaders will be running a ‘Denim for
Deafness Day’. ‘Denim for Deafness Day’ is where we will be raising money for
children with Cytomegalovirus (CMV) which causes
children to be born with hearing loss.
There are many children born in Australia with hearing loss due to CMV,
therefore we would like to invite your children to be a part of reducing
hearing loss in babies. On this day, students can wear denim and are asked
to bring in a gold coin donation. If you have any questions, speak to one of
the Year 6 Student Leaders. Your Student Leaders
