INTRODUCTION Dear Parents,
It gives me great pleasure to present the 2018 Summer Term Dulwich Prep London
co-curricular booklet. Once again this term, we will be offering the boys a wide range
of co-curricular clubs and activities that enable them to develop their social, sporting
and cultural abilities and to foster their own self-belief.
Participation in the co-curricular programme at Dulwich Prep London is strongly
encouraged, valued and inclusive and we hope that the boys will take advantage of
the clubs and activities on offer. The Middle and Upper School boys should be
looking to choose clubs that will incorporate a range of skills and help them work
towards their All Rounder Award.
This booklet contains a comprehensive timetable of clubs and activities that will run
during this Spring Term which we hope will prove useful to you and your sons.
To register interest in any of the PAID clubs in this booklet, please use the Parent
Message Centre which can be found via the Parent portal on the school website.
https://dulwichpreplondon.myclarioncall.co.uk/login.php?centre=parent
The online booking will go live on Friday 16 March and close at 18:00 on Tuesday
20th March
Please be aware that membership of most of our clubs (apart from those which are
invitational) is for one term only to maximise the number of boys who can benefit.
Current members may reapply if they wish to join for a second term but should
understand that first time applicants will always be given priority. Please note that,
once enrolled in a paid club and offered a place, the fee is non-refundable, and boys
are expected to complete the ten week programme.
We will be creating time next week to allow boys to sign up for unpaid
clubs under the guidance of their form tutors.
The main listings for the Lower School Clubs are in a separate booklet which has
also been sent. Lower School boys can apply ONLY for the following Middle and
Upper School paid clubs in this booklet: Chess, squash (Year 4), karate, gymnastics
and Thursday climbing (Year 4).
You will be informed by The end of the first week of the Easter holidays whether or
not your son has been successful in applying for a place in a club. Please note that any
Middle or Upper School boys will definitely be able to find a place in a club running
until 5pm on any evening, in case this helps you plan your childcare provision.
All clubs will start from Tuesday 17th April. Paid clubs will end on Monday 2nd
July, allowing for a 10 week course, whilst unpaid clubs will finish on Tuesday
3rd July.

CLUB INFORMATION
A Good Read This Year 8 break time club meets fortnightly throughout the autumn and spring terms to
discuss books that are thought-provoking, perhaps a ‘classic’, certainly ‘a good read’. Each
meeting is led by a different member of staff, and boys wishing to attend a particular
meeting should sign up in advance and undertake to read the book before attending.
Amnesty International Amnesty International is a club where students will learn about and discuss human rights.
They will also raise awareness and take action on human rights issues.
Ancient Greek / Roman Myths Myths are traditional stories - some provide information on the founding of nations whilst
other tell the stories of great heroes and heroines. This club will focus on the myths of
Ancient Greece and Rome looking at various texts and videos delving into the stories that
defined a culture.
Art Club Boys will be guided through various activities ranging from drawing, painting, printmaking,
collage, sketchbook work, photography/animation and IT through to three-dimensional
elements. Some of the studies will be self-directed and investigative. The spring term clubs
will consist of the following 4 areas of study:
4-5pm Monday: Scholars Programme
This club is for potential scholars who wish to develop a portfolio of personal work.
Boys are generally invited to attend but everyone is welcome to discuss suitability
with their Art teacher if they are interested in joining the group. There is an emphasis
on independent practice and students are expected to choose their own theme, carry
out personal artists' research and develop ideas in response to their interests. They
will be exposed to a range of techniques, materials and styles, with traditional and
experimental approaches. (10 Boys)
4-5pm Tuesday: Experimental techniques
This club provides boys the opportunity to explore a wide range of experimental
practices through a series of workshops. There is an emphasis on mixed media work
and experimentation. (10 Boys)
4-5pm Wednesday: Ceramics
Boys will explore a variety of hand building techniques and will produce a final
outcome based on a given brief. They will be encouraged to be experimental with
surface decoration and glazing. (10 Boys)
1-1.30 Wednesday: Open Studio
This club provides boys from Year 5-8 the opportunity to head up to the art room and
continue to work on projects that they may have started. Boys under the guidance of
Miss Carbonell can reflect on and amend their pieces in a more relaxed environment.
Badminton Club An opportunity to learn the game, develop your skills, enjoy fun and competitive matches
and climb the rankings. This is a fun lunchtime club.
Basketball Club Basketball is a fun, energetic team sport for all ages, sizes and abilities. Boys will learn the
basics from Mr Jones, including shooting, layups, defence and dribbling. We will run a Year 5

competitive teams in the future. (15 boys per session)
Bee Keeping An opportunity to explore the inner workings of the school beehive
Big Band The Big Band’s reputation speaks for itself and the group is in demand both for school

won awards at national level on many occasions.
Book Club Year 6 & Year 7 These clubs meet fortnightly and, as spaces are limited, are divided into two sessions, with
half the boys attending a breakfast meeting and the other half after school. We do different
things at each meeting - book swaps, discussions, debates or quizzes - and the only
criterion for joining the club is a genuine love of books and reading. Boys should speak to
Mrs Fletcher if they wish to join.
Calligraphy Club Calligraphy is the Art of Beautiful Writing. Boys will learn how to form letters with a
calligraphy pen and will be encouraged to create masterpieces of writing and illustration in
the form of cards, posters, poems etc. Boys are welcome to come along to a taster session
if they would like to find out more before committing! (6 - 8 boys)

groups may be organised. String trios, quartets and quintets play alongside clarinet group

a variety of styles.

fundamental role in our annual carol services and choral festivals in Southwark Cathedral.
Tuesdays.
Cricket Nets Nets sessions will run from 4pm - 5pm. These sessions will focus on skill development
with each week focused on a different aspect of the game. Please initially send boys based
