Feather Falls Casino Brewing Company in Oroville, CA opened in December 2010 to enthusias- tic crowds of beer-lovers and foodies, and the fun hasn’t stopped! Why add a microbrewery to a successful gaming operation? “We were looking to separate ourselves from the other Native casinos in the area and around the country,” says Marketing Director Ed Gilbert. “We also felt we had to reach out to a younger demographic to build business toward the future.” With the exploding popularity of the craft beer industry, a microbrewery seemed like a winning solution. The tribal council agreed, and a plan was approved in August 2009. The dust started flying in April 2010, as the casino’s showroom was demolished to make room for the new facility. The project’s general contractor, SMC, recently completed multi-million dollar expansions at the Atlantis Hotel Casino, Ritz Carlton Club, Peppermill Hotel Casino and Marriott Timber Lodge. Architectural services were provided by MBA Architecture and Interior Design of Reno, NV, who specialize in casino and resort design. The addition of a new restaurant and enter- tainment venture meant an infusion of new jobs in the community. Approximately 75 full-time and part-time positions were created initially, with another 30- 40 in the months following the grand opening. After an eight month, $8.5 million renova- tion, Mooretown Rancheria unveiled this elegant addition to the area’s original gaming facility. The décor features rich woods, plush fabrics and copper accents throughout the airy dining room. Visitors are taken with the view of gleaming brew tanks behind the bar, and the frequent sight of Brewmaster Roland Allen measuring ingredients and testing batches. With seven draft ales and a rotating menu of seasonals, beer connoisseurs can always find a new taste on tap.
