Attendance It is important for your child to be in school every day that he/she is not ill. Do not send your child to school if he/she has a communicable disease such as measles, flu, mumps, chicken pox, ringworm, impetigo, pink eye, croup, etc. Every absence, even part of a school day, interferes with your child’s progress. Each subject is taught in sequence which builds understanding and correct

habits of study. In order to be ready for new steps in learning, your child must have mastered the previous steps and be sufficiently ready to profit from new materials. A good nights rest is also very important to your child’s educational experience.

Backpack

It is very important that your child brings a full-size backpack to school each day (no wheels please). Small hands just can not hold all the things that might be coming home. A backpack will also help your child learn to be responsible; it is their job to bring notes, work, art projects, etc. to and from school and home every day.

Please check your child’s backpack every night!

Supplies

A supply list is provided. Please send ALL your child’s supplies no later than the third day of school. DO NOT put names on any school supplies unless otherwise noted. Please DO put names on clothing and backpacks. Lists are available online at

First Day of School

This is a very important day in the life of your family. Be sure to talk positively to your child about school. Assure them that you want to hear about the school day and all the things that happen. When you bring your child to school the first day, your child’s fears and tears will best be overcome if you do not linger. (Sometimes this is a much more difficult day for parents than for children.) Assure your child that you will return and will be ready to hear all about their

wonderful day at school. After a few days, you will be encouraged to drop your child off at the front door and allow them to enter the building on their own. Independence is a tough but wonderful thing!

Snacks Snacks provide a very important energy boost to the kindergarten child. They are also used to teach sorting, addition, subtraction, colors, patterns, etc. It will be our tradition for each family to contribute to “Snack Time”. You will receive a note about once a month detailing what is needed.

Lunch

Lunch will be at 11:45. You are welcome to eat lunch with your child. Your child may bring their lunch (easily managed items please) or purchase a meal from the cafeteria. You will receive information on how to track their meal account.

Birthdays If you would like to provide a special treat for the class on your child’s birthday, please let the teacher know that you are sending a SNACK for that day - parties are not allowed. Donuts or cookies are best. Summer birthdays will be honored as half birthdays (5 1/2½ years old) during the school year.

buttoned and/or zipped. For safety reasons, please send your child with buckle or tie shoes that will protect their feet. NO flip flops please.

A Daily Work Folder will be sent home each day. Please talk to your child about what is in the folder, initial the folder and return it to school the next day.

Each family is asked to keep a Reading Log. The Kindergarten minimum per month is 20 books read.
