TDM-01 Features

The Metroval Density Transmitter represents a new landmark in the Brazilian industry of high-tech processcontrol instruments, since it is the first instrument of this kind whose software and hardware have been fullydeveloped in Brazil.

TDM-01 is a density sensor whose technical characteristics provide continuous measurement of density andconcentration of liquids, liquid mixtures and multiphase fluids.

The operation principle of the instrument is based on the harmonic oscillation law. According to this principle,a U tube, when electrically excited, starts vibrating or oscillating at its natural frequency. The period of oscillationis a function of the liquid density that flows through the tube. Thus, by measuring the period of oscillation, thedensity of the liquid can be measured with highest level of accuracy.

The measuring principle of the oscillating element makes TDM-01 insensitive to viscosity variations of theliquid to be measured, as well as to normal vibrations, flow, pressure. Also, It operates independently of itsorientation and requires no maintenance.

The integral Electronic Unit of densimeter has a MODBUS protocol enabling configuration and data acquisitionusing friendly software tools.

TDM-01 is as accurate as or more accurate than the usual laboratory instruments. However, it can be operateddirectly on the process with an accuracy of 0.0002 g/cm3 and with an impressive repeatability of0.00005 g/cm3.

Data Acquisition

MDI-Metroval Device Interfacesoftware is supplied with TDM-01 atno additional cost.Using this software and MODBUSprotocol, the customer can acquireremote process variables measuredby TDM-01 such as: density, tempe-rature, concentrations, etc.

Versatility

The DTM-01 Metroval Density Transmitter can be applied to processes related to measurement of specificmass, density or concentration of pure or mixed chemicals in the liquid state or containing particles in suspension, even in aggressive or corrosive chemicals. In the chemical and petrochemical industries, the concentration ofacids, alkaline solutions or petroleum byproducts can be measured and controlled continuously so as to avoidthe need for a constant collection of samples for laboratory analysis and to eliminate all the mechanicalequipment, as well as the labor involved, assuring a continued improvement of quality and efficiency.

In some sectors of the food industry, the measurement in ºBRIX (saccharose) is extremely important, andTDM-01 is able to perform this function with optimum accuracy. The correct monitoring of °BRIX can mean areduction in waste of raw materials and an increase in productivity. In sugar and alcohol mills TDM-01 can beused for measuring alcohol content (°INPM or °BRIX) in must, syrup and honey. In distillation processes, asignificant energy saving is obtained by improving the yield of evaporation systems.

The brewing industry, according to an article published by MBAA - Master Brewers Association of the Americas, has also recognized the advantages and economy from the usage of this measurement principle, once thatthe sensor element can be subjected to a CIP (Cleaned in Place) cleaning operation and can operate within atemperature range of -40 to 150°C, besides eliminating the need for sample collection.

With a flow computer and a volume flow meter, the mass flow on large diameter lines (rated 6”) can bedetermined on a more economic basis. Also, the concentration of products under process can be monitored.

Density Measurement of Typical Liquids

Hydrocarbons, aqueous solutions, liquid sugar, liquefied gases, liquid mixtures, fruit juices, glucose, chocolate, mass, oils, acids, alkaline solutions, alcohol, ammonia, solvents, lubricants, pastes, paints, foams and slurries, cooling or heat transfer liquids (glycol), CNG, biodiesel and fuels in general, sulfuric acid 90%, nitric acid, boricacid, peroxides, etc.

In terms of cost-benefit, this featuresmakes TDM-01 superior to any othersimilar instrument on the market, in-cluding mass meters and diaphragmtype probes used for this function.

Applications

Continuous monitoring of density, mass flow measurement, measurements for tax payment purposes, qualitycontrol, sewage monitoring, product recognition, dosage, additivation, chemical reactions control, concentration measurement, distillation monitoring and control, filtering processes, sedimentation, mixtureor fermentation, process control, measurement of solid percentage in liquids, measurement of foams andsuspensions, etc.

Calibration

Each Density Transmitter is calibrated and certified at our Density Measurement Laboratory. This laboratory, which uses primary reference standards, besides calibrating Metroval Densimeters and Flow Meters, performscalibrations of densimeters of other makes and sources as well.
