6.28 WORK INSTRUCTION FOR ROAD FURNITURE

OBJECTIVE

To outline the work instruction by which road furniture are carried out.

SCOPE

The work instruction shall apply for all civil engineering projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Signages, Guardrail, Road kerb, road paint, thermoplastic, etc.

HANDLING AND STORAGE OF MATERIALS

PREPARATORY WORK

Step 1

Obtain relevant approved construction drawings from structural Consultant / Engineer.

Step 2

Set out the location with reference pegging lines and level.

Step 3

Inspect the road furniture goods received at site. Ensure the quantity, symbol, words are

in place. Use Receiving Inspection Checklist (RIC) during inspection.

INSTALLATION OF ROAD FURNITURE

Road Signage

Step 1

Put the signage at every location where it was determine.

Step 2

Dig the holes where the signage to erect. Ensure the offset from road edge is

enough according to the drawing and specification.

Step 3

Erect the signage and ensure the facing in right direction. Plumb the

verticality using spirit level.

Step 4

Stake or support the signage for temporary stand.

Step 5

Concrete the base according to specification.

Step 6

Carry out joint inspection with the Subcontractor on road furniture completed and

obtain acceptance.

Road Marking (Thermoplastic)

Step 1

Prepare the mix of thermoplastic material (refer to Manufacturers Instruction)

Step 2

Measure total width of road to determine the center line of the road. Mark

centerline along the road using chalk for certain interval depends on radius of

road curve and type of roads.

Step 3

Lay a rope along beside (the offset depends on the width of the line) the

centerline marked to get a smooth line.

Step 4

Put the processed painting mix into the ‘road marking trolley” . Push the trolley

along the rope and guides by a string at the trolley. Set the thickness of the paint

and amount of glass powder according to requirement. Allow the paint to

hardened to the time period specified by the Manufacturer.

Step 5

Carry out joint inspection with the Subcontractor on road furniture completed.

Road Kerb

Step 1

From the reference line setup, excavate to base level of the kerb. Check the level

by spirit level to ensure the depth.

Step 2

Place concrete base and lay the kerb onto the concrete. Adjust the kerb to the

required level. Fill mortar in the joint.

Step 3

Apply prime coat paint to the kerb and continue with 2 layer of paints as per

specification. After all the laying done and the kerb ready to receive painting.

Step 4

Carry out joint inspection with the Subcontractor on road furniture works

completed.
