This line is equipped by asynchronous motors and inverter ADV200 series
powered through a common DC bus. : the Rotating shear side is managed
by a Servo drive XVyA-EV series.
The “Rotating shear” is a transversal cut system with the material in
motion.
Since the cut must be done with no difference of speed between the blade
and sheet metal, a dedicated control system is necessary for the
movement of the blade and the sheet metal.
With reference to the above figure, the principle of operation is as follows:
A blade rotates counterclockwise on a drum called plate blade holder.
The sheet moves at constant speed from right to left.
During its circular movement, the cut takes place when the blade is in
contact with the sheet: this is the point of beginning of the cutting.
The movement of the drum is adjusted to ensure to cut to the length
value defined.
Comparing to the sheet metal, the speed of the blade depends on the
rotating speed of the drum and it depends also on its angle with respect to
the dead higher point (P.M.S.).
In order to get a perfect cut, the speed of the drum is regulated to have
the projection of the speed of the blade on the sheet metal same as the
real speed of sheet metal.
A gap is set from the lower dead point (P.M.I) to move the peace of the
sheet metal cut from the blade.
The movement of the drum is controlled through a metric wheel placed on
the sheet metal.

Servo drive XVyA-EV series is available with dedicated application
firmware cutting system “rotating shear”.
XVyEV servodrive read encoder info from the motor and the marker.
Those values are needed to control the position of the drum blade holder.
A second encoder is installed on the metric wheel.
The cutting sequence and all the related parameters (length of the cut,
etc.) are managed by the PLC through field bus.
The use of the XVyEV servo drive with special dedicated application
firmware has multiple advantages compare to the use of a standard drive
with separated axis control:
- Speed loop time = 2ms
- No analog communication between drive and axis board.
No noise on the speed reference
- Same Configurator tool for drive parametrization and application
parameters setting: GF_eXpress
- Digital scope integrated into GF_eXpress to monitor all the drive
and application variables
- Less components in the electrical cabinet
- Less spare parts needed

It has been performed Rotating shear systems with line speed up to
120m/min and thickness metal Sheet up to 8mm.
Advantages
No external axis system are needed. All the control system is
completely integrated into XVYEV servodrive. Speed loop time
performed is less than 2ms. This allows the machine to reach very high
performance never reached in the past.
