Thank you for making my first monthmemorable and for being ready and availablefor our students and faculty as the semesterbegan.  Some of you worked extra hours, over the weekend, and through illness to helpothers in a selfless, client first fashion.  I wasproud of the way we performed leading intoand starting the new term – applause foreach of you!

In the many conversations, meetings andefforts that we’ve shared over my first monthhere, it is evident that we have a team thatcares deeply for each other and has a greatdeal of passion to serve UALR students, faculty and staff.  I have enjoyed the 1:1conversations I’ve had so far and I look forward to concluding my initial meetings with everyone inthe coming weeks.  My door is open to the entire team and I value the diversity of input to helpshape my thoughts about our future.

The game is on to rebuild our team, modernize our infrastructure, engage our workforce, improveprocesses, and continue to improve user experiences.  I will soon be sharing an updatedorganizational structure with the Associate Directors.  The structure will help us work morecollaboratively as a team, engage our key user/office areas, empower our workforce, and increaseour reach and service offerings.

The game is beginning for an updated network/wireless infrastructure.  Tim and his team, withsupport from many staff throughout ITS, are developing a wireless project with the codename‘Project Touchdown’.  When we reach the end zone, we will have completed a series of short burstprojects (1st downs) that will completely improve network registration across campus, deliverquality 802.11ac wireless throughout campus, and modernize our switching gear.  Our new ViceChancellor for Finance and Administration, Charles Cansler, is a strong supporter of ITS and I am

eager to work with him to build the team, services and technologies to meet UALR’s evolvingneeds.  Charles is looking forward to meeting everyone and sharing his vision for supporting UALR. We are fortunate to have Charles as our divisional leader.

The game is just starting for improvements in our communications, presence and perceptionthroughout campus.  One of the first things we’re doing is updating the content of this newsletter tobe more focused on relevant issues in information technology and ITS.  Please share your thoughtson how we can continue to focus the message to ensure you receive information that is helpful tolearn more about our projects, areas of support and professional needs.

I look forward to seeing you at our annual meeting on Friday, September 4th.  If I don’t see you, please have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend!

Employee Assistance ProgramExcerpted from http://ualr.edu/humanresources/home/miscellaneous/eap/--

Everyone has problems at one time or another. Problems, like people, come in all sizes, types, intensities, and can come at any time. Problems sometimes start small, but can grow and spread toother areas of a person’s life, threatening a marriage, a career, or both.

The Arkansas Employee Assistance Program (AEAP) was developed to provide confidentialcounseling, information, and management consultation for employees who experience some form ofpersonal distress. The program was implemented as a result of the commitment to the well-being ofthe valued employees. The University has paid the cost of the program. UALR recognizes the needto include family members in the helping process; therefore, your family members are eligible toparticipate in the EAP.

UALR employees or members of their families requesting an appointment with the EmployeeAssistance Program should contact the EAP Office at 686-2588.
