The Year 12 exam schedule is at mid- way point and the final Year 12 Assembly is next Friday November 21 st . As communicated in previous Newsletters this term, Year 11 students finish on Friday 28 th November. For all other students it is lessons as usual. Our conversation at this week’s General Staff Meeting touched on the issue of student attendance and participation in lessons at this time of the year. We seek your support in ensuring that your child/children are at school as there is at least three weeks of the Curriculum to cover in most year levels and subject areas as well as assessment tasks to be competed. Year 12 Final Assembly: An invitation is extended to the whole school community to attend this assembly, Friday 21 st November, at 10.30am. UNIFORM Over the past few weeks there has been a real push within the school from staff around appropriate student uniform. This has been particularly relevant about the length and style of shorts. A number of letters have been sent home to parents and caregivers of students who are not wearing appropriate uniform. We thank you for your efforts in this matter, and seek your continuing support. TRANSITION In preparation for the move to school, the current Kindy students are working through a program of transition to school. Carly Wilamowski, as the Reception teacher, established a program in collaboration with Ally Mead; Director of the Kindy. There have been visits to the Kindy by Carly, a parent information session and school sessions on Tuesdays from Weeks 4 to 8. In all there are 18 students transitioning, which will go to make up the Reception class in2015. Running parallel, a transition program is in place for the students coming in from Raukkan Aboriginal School. These students are currently coming in on the bus and working with the teachers and students of the current Year 4/5 and 6/7 classes; Mrs Anne Wright and Ms Anyupa Giles. This program has been developed between Meningie and Raukkan schools and students have been supported by staff in their home school when on Transition. SAPSASA STATE TENNIS CARNIVAL The Murray Mallee team, consisting of six boys and six girls, played at Seaside Tennis Courts, Henley Beach in the SAPSASA State Tennis Carnival held from 3rd to 7th November. Each player was involved in two sets (one singles and one doubles) per match. Each day the team played two districts (one in the morning and one in the afternoon). The Monday was Murray Mallee’s most successful day, narrowly losing to Northern in the morning and having a great win in the afternoon to Kangaroo Island. By the end of the day every player in the team had successfully one a set. This was a huge improvement from last year. The team had the opportunity to go to indoor bowls and also McDonalds for tea. This was a good team bonding session for the players, coaches and the parents. Overall, the Murray Mallee District tennis team was placed eighth out of nine districts. Chelsea Thurston was the sole representative from Meningie Area School. She enjoyed herself immensely throughout the week, her tennis skills improved and she demonstrated excellent sportsmanship. Congratulations to Chelsea and the rest of the Murray Mallee District Tennis Team. We hope to see other students having a go at trying out in the next few years. Krystina Durdin (Murray Mallee District Convenor)

Her artwork is on display in the Hall Foyer until Presentation Night in Week 9. Elyssa Kreher (Art Teacher)

PIANO & GUITAR

LESSONS

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

I have had a number of requests and enquiries concerning piano and guitar lessons. At Meningie Area School we have a large music program that involves all students starting a brass (trumpet or trombone) instrument in Year 5. Students also can be part of the choir from Year 4 to Year 7.

The brass/woodwind lessons are free to the students and are taught by Instrumental Music teachers. The instrument hire is provided free of charge by the school.

In 2015 there may be the possibility of a private provider coming to the school to teach piano and beginner guitar lessons if we have enough interest and can secure a teacher. The lessons will be approximately $25 each and students will need to have their own instrument for practice. \

Please contact the front office on 85 751106 to register interest in your child being involved in this possible venture next year.

Thankyou for your interest in your child's music program.
