About Hospice Care - part 1 (A Medicare Benefit)

Hospice is a program of care and support for people who are terminally ill (with a life expec-tancy of 6 months or less, if the illness runs its normal course) and their families.

Here are 7 important facts about hospice:

1. Hospice helps people who are terminally ill live comfortably.

2. Hospice isn’t only for people with cancer.

3. The focus is on comfort (palliative care), not on curing an illness.

4. A specially trained team of professionals and caregivers provide care for the “whole per-son,” including physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

5. Services typically include physical care, coun-seling, drugs, equipment, and supplies for the terminal illness and related conditions.

6. Care is generally given in the home.

7. Family caregivers can receive support.

Chaplains Chat...

I feel quite sure many of you are familiar with at least some of the words of Elizabeth Barrett Browning in her “How Do I Love Thee?” Sonnet 43: If you are not, you can pull it up on a computer. As you can guess, she goes on to write about the many ways which she loves Robert Browning. The last sentence of the Sonnet goes like this: “I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life; and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death.” We have no idea exactly how Elizabeth meant this last phrase, if she was anticipating that she would out live Robert, or if after her own death, she would somehow continue with those feelings and that they would even deepen further throughout the course of time. It ends up that she died 28 years before Robert. Either way it appears that she is hoping that love never dies. Hopefully we enter this world being part of a loving family and the hop is that this continues throughout our lives. Yes, there are struggles and difficulties, Elizabeth struggled with a health issue most of her life, but with Robert and God by her side, she managed to do the best she could through it all. It doesn’t matter if we marry or remain single, the hope is that we feel loved by family and friends. We need love to become the fullest person that we can be. God loves us, in spite of ourselves. God loves us when we do the wrong thing. God loves us when we are self-centered, even when things are not about us and we think they should be about us. God is always there willing to love us and care for us. God has taken things further than Elizabet Barrett Browning. How, you may ask. God has loved us from the beginning of time, now and even into our future. Blessings, Chaplain Bill Billett BCC Let me know if I can be of help as you face any transition in your life. IL housekeeping staff are re-

sponsible for completing the follow-

ing tasks in each of the homes at

Manor Park ; general dusting, vacu-

uming carpeted areas, cleaning the

kitchen, change linens beds, clean

bathrooms, sweeping and mopping

of hard surface floors. The following

tips will ensure that housekeeping

tasks are completed efficiently and

effectively:

> Countertops and tabletops should

be cleared off any extra clutter so

that the housekeeper can thorough-

ly clean and dust.

> Place clean linens in an obvious

place for any beds requiring the

linens to be changed.

> Let the housekeeper (or their

supervisor) know which room(s) you

prefer them to start cleaning first (i.e.,

some residents prefer that the house-

keeper start in the kitchen, work their

way to the living room, etc.) Once a

routine has been established, house-

keepers will do a general cleaning of

the entire house and if time permits,

they will do a deep cleaning of one

or two rooms. If there is a room or

rooms in the house that you do not

want the housekeeper to clean

please let them know in advance. But

keep in mind that even a room that is

never used will still build up dust

(consider having it cleaned at least

once every other month).

> Please turn down thermostat to comfortable setting for cleaning your home. By doing this the housekeeper will be able to work more efficiently and will also help keep dust the down when the housekeeper is do-ing the general of dusting of the house. If you have a heat pump system blowing cold air, some new heat pump owners may think their unit runs all the time because they aren’t used to the longer run times and lower temperature output of a heat pump. In extremely cold weather conditions, a properly working heat pump will run almost continuously. That is the way they are designed to work. When the cold is above 35 degrees and your heat pump seems to be continu-ously running, forms ice on the outdoor unit, please contact Maintenance Office– 699-3427

If you decide to change your PHONE SERVICE to a different

company, please, contact the Maintenance office. It is important for others to be notified about the CHANGES.

Everyone MUST maintain a land line in order to have a functioning Fire Alarm System that alerts the emergency system for quick re-sponse.
