  • Mega Minds’ Times #5 The 40 Book Challenge

    by: Luke Palumbo

I interviewed Margaret, J.J., Athena, Tommy, Sam V. I also interviewed Sam G., Ryan, Jimmy, Fritz and Max about the 40 Book Challenge. Fantasy and realistic fiction were the most popular genres among those I interviewed. Margaret has finished the entire challenge. Way to go, Margaret! Her picture now hangs with the other students that have reached the 40 Book Challenge in the upstairs hallway.

Margaret’s favorite genre is fantasy. Her favorite book was The Land of Stories, which was also the book she would like to see turned into a movie.

J.J.’s favorite book was Stranded. If he could be any character in a book, he would be Nicholas from this book. He would love to see the fantasy book turned into a movie.

Athena loved the book Auggie and Me, but she didn’t like the book, The Wright Brothers. The book she read that she would like to see turned into a movie is Wonder.

Tommy liked Found the best. However, he disliked Football Super Stars 2015. He prefers to read mysteries and realistic fiction.

Sam V. really enjoys the Percy Jackson series, fantasy books about gods. If he could be a character from a book, he would want to be Percy Jackson. He would like to see the Shadow Children series made into a film.

Sam G. and Jimmy both loved Diary of the Wimpy Kid: Old School. Sam said the book, Game Changers, would be a great book to turn into a movie. Jimmy’s favorite genre is informational.

  • Ryan’s favorite book is Among the Betrayed. If he had to pick a favorite character to be, it would be Luke in the Shadow Children series. He enjoys reading fantasy books.

Fritz’s favorite book is Big Nate Great Minds Think Alike and would enjoy the whole series to hit the big screen. He would love to be Nate from the books. He disliked Beast Quest #1.

Max’s favorite book was Watchers, which has already been made into a movie. So if he had another pick for a book to made into a movie, it would be to see The Emerald Atlas in the theaters.

I hope this interview will help all of The Mega Minds with their book selection for the rest of the challenge. Happy reading! Scroll down to see the next article.

  • Projects, Projects, Projects by Emily Plone

This past quarter, The Mega Minds created Amazon Listing Novel Projects. These

Amazon Projects were about a book. Each student would make a paper version of the Amazon.com page for that book. They tried to sell the book to people. A lot of the students did a colorful paper behind each topic, if they did it as a presentation on poster board or a tri-fold. Some of the students did the project as a Google slideshow. As you can see, there were a couple different ways to do this project.

For the monthly spelling project, The Mega Minds had to use 10 spelling words from lists 5,

6, and 7. They had to make a story, game, or worksheet that used the spelling word meanings. Read below to find out more details.

    Spelling Projects

The Mega Minds have monthly spelling projects. For their December spelling projects they

had to do spelling lists 5,6, and 7. List 5 had the prefixes: min, mini, mega, and micro. List 6 had the prefixes: in and im. List 7 had the prefixes: auto and trans. Students could do the spelling project as a story, or board game. They could also do it as a Google slideshow

  • presentation, worksheet, or memory game. If you have noticed, you would say they had a couple projects in the second quarter.

Here is Margaret, Jenna, Emily, and Sam G. playing a spelling game.
