First Front Door Grant Program AvailableIf you haven’t owned your own home within the last three years or are a fi rst-time homebuyer, The Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh’s First Front Door grant program may be of assistance to you in making your down payment. For every $1 you save to put towards your home, a matching $3 is available in grant assistance, up to $5,000. Go to our website for more information on this limited-time offer. Win a Family Membership to the Lehigh Valley Zoo!

April is designated National Credit Union Youth Month, so we’re going wild about our young members. Don’t monkey around and miss your chance for an adventure at the Lehigh Valley Zoo for the whole family! First Commonwealth is giving away six family

memberships to the Lehigh Valley Zoo this month. Simply encourage your child (ages 17 and younger) to save. For every $5 or more deposited to a youth account, an entry will be made automatically into the zoo drawing.1

Plus, we’ll have surprises in our branches every Friday throughout April for our young savers. New savers can get in on the fun as well and First Commonwealth will even put the fi rst $5 into their savings account!2

National Youth Savings Challenge Time

Coinciding with Youth Month, the National Youth Savings ChallengeTM begins. We’ve set the bar high at $300,000 in new youth deposits and are looking for 100 new youth members. As an added bonus of your deposit when you open an account, you’ll have a chance to win $100 by participating in the challenge. Ten winners will be selected nationwide.3

Monkey See, Monkey Do: Teach Them to Be Wild about Saving

We’d be “lion” if we said saving was easy. Show andteach children how to save for their goals and they’ll have one of the most diffi cult aspects of fi nance under their belt by the time they’re teens—being consistent savers.

Here are a few ideas to help your cubs get wild about saving:

• Have young children—preschool age—sort different types of money into piles by color and size.

• Play store or credit union. Help them use a pretend cash register.

• At the grocery store, let children of all ages help you shop. Teach them how to comparison shop. Another option is to have them cut coupons and help you save, then split the coupon savings with them by depositing them into their First Commonwealth Dollar Dog account.

• As children get older, let them know what things cost. Share sales receipts and bills you receive for items or services you’ve purchased for them.

• If you decide to pay your children an allowance, discuss allowance amounts and how you expect them to use it. Explain for what you will pay and for what they should be responsible. Here’s an example: When you go to the movies, you would buy the movie tickets and they would buy the snacks.

• As they reach high school age, remind them of their fi nancial responsibilities. For example, they may want the newest cell phone that comes with a really high price tag, but you will only cover the basic phone. Once the responsibility of paying for an item is on them, the “latest and greatest” isn’t always as important.

• Don’t forget to encourage wise little owls to get good grades! First Commonwealth will reward up to $5 per school year for every A or equivalent based on the end-of-year report card.

Find more savings tips and activities for kids on the Dollar Dog website found under the Checking and Savings tab, Kids & Students page in the right-hand column of our website.

Go Wild About Saving at First Commonwealth!April Is National Credit Union Youth Month

Protect Your Identity with e-StatementsReduce your chances of being a victim of mail fraud by receiving your First Commonwealth statement electronically.

Even though identity thieves are fi nding new ways to steal information over the Internet, the original theft—for example, taking out a credit card in your name—tends to be a low-tech crime. According to the Federal Trade Commission, about half the country’s victims know how their information was swiped, and in many cases the breach was paper (bills, credit card solicitations and fi nancial statements) pilfered from garbage cans and mailboxes.

Banking and paying bills online not only cuts off thieves’ access to the papers they need to commit ID theft, but also helps detect the crime sooner. This is because consumers who bank online check their accounts much more frequently, nearly four times a month compared with once a month for those who receive statements by mail.

Receive your statement electronically and enjoy safety, timeliness, and convenience. For more information about e-Statements, or to sign up to receive them, call First Commonwealth or log into HomeLink and select the e-Statement tab to self-enroll.

Enjoy the Parks for Less This SummerOnce again, members can enjoy a day at the park at reduced rates. Enjoy Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom and Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark this summer with your family at discounted prices. Visit www.firstcomcu.org for details.

2015. Late applications will not be considered. More details are available on the website.
