• Introducing BTEC @ MGIS
The educa/on system at MGIS reflects many Gandhian values. In fact, "Naye Talim " was an educa/onal movement started by Mahatma Gandhi, the movement insisted on real world oriented voca/onal educa/on. Therefore we find a very close and clear connec/on between the MGIS educa/onal values and those of BTEC. MGIS believes in the need for voca/onal and skill based training and feels privileged to be associated with Edexcel, one of the world’s premier centres for voca/onal qualifica/on.
The First School authorised to offer BTEC in India
Mahatma Gandhi Interna/onal School is the first school in India authorised to deliver the BTEC Program. Currently, MGIS is offering the BTEC Level 3 in Crea/ve Media Produc/on. With the launch of the BTEC program, MGIS is now a centre for voca/onal training in crea/ve media produc/on. The first batch commenced from 2 October 2011, 'Gandhi Jayan/'. This is apt, considering that MGIS was founded on 2nd Oct 1997, is named aner Mahatma Gandhi and believes in the relevance of skill based educa/on (Naye Talim).

!In an age where filmmaking has become hobby more than a profession, Ahmedabad Film Project is a plarorm to make a film over the weekend, away from your huff-‐buff schedule, and showcase it to people around and get awarded. It's not a cakewalk, and certainly not when all they have to make a film is 48 hours. With a handful of hours with them to make their passion a reality, all they have to do is write the nicest script, select the most appropriate loca/ons, get the people do ac/ng, do the edit, compose a grabbing music and make the best possible film adhering to the compe//on theme. The Ahmedabad Film Project is not only for filmmakers but open for anyone who wishes to make a film from all ages, all occupaIons, across the country. !!
What is Ahmedabad Film project
BTEC Batch: 2012-‐2013 Concept: Sagar Modak Director: Siddharth Dodia BTEC faculty: Shraddha Rathi, Piyusha Ulke Edi/ng Faculty: Neha Solanki Internal Verifier: Meenakshi Ganeriwala Lead Internal Verifier: Meenakshi Ganeriwala !
Concept note: BTEC students have taken part in a compe//on called AFP (Ahmedabad Film Project) where they had to make a film on the given topic in just 48 hours. This /me students had done the edi/ng on two different versions of FCP (Final cut pro). The main film is edited on FCP 7.0 and
they are edi/ng a (making of) the same film individually on FCPx
The film is not a response to the current Delhi rape case. The film is not a response to one rape case, but harassment in larger sense. Women by birth are trained to fear harassment. Be it any age, one knows the fear of rape. Harassment is not only faced by unmarried women, but also by young kinds: boys and girls, marital rape, eve teasing, work related harassment. What we are taught is to keep quite and bear it. This film is a response to this feeling of keeping quite. When one cannot react to injus/ce, one feels abandoned or invisible. The first and the last scene of the film addresses the invisibility that gender harassment forces most of the women to feel. There is no context where one can talk about it, come out and shout loud. Other minority communi/es like sex workers, eunuchs, homosexuals too face violent gender harassment, but the society has no place for them and their issues. Thus, as a society we render them invisible. To counter this invisibility, the film uses black colour as a metaphor to talk about silenced ruptures in society. Thus, they have combined a fic/onal genre with real life incidences and stories. Stories that remain uncovered, yet changes lives in small ways... these are stories that are never supposed to be spoken off, these are the stories that makes a woman guilty (of wearing short skirt, going late at night etc.) these are the stories that will never render them as innocent, but as culprit... these are stories that needs to come out and shout “I am not guilty”.... Guilty is the one who harasses, not the one who get harassed.
Another context that can be theore/cally discussed is of the black colour: the common phrase used in Indian filmography: “muh kaala karana” which literary mean, “blacken the face”. Mostly this phrase is used when a girl has had an illegi/mate sexual rela/onship with someone. But rarely it is also used, when a girl has been raped. The vic/m would be branded with the phrase and would be len alone for the rest of the life. There is no agency given to the vic/m to decide. Vic/mhood becomes your social, poli/cal iden/ty, instead of remaining an event. Thus the film also cri/ques a certain social prac/ces both in language and in prac/ce.

Ahmedabad a Wannabe Metro city of India inhabits one of the biggest dump yard of the country. The Narol Dump site is spread over 84 hectors and has been in opera/on since 1980. It receives2,300 metric tons of solid municipal waste per day. Now this waste has turned into huge mountains. This site from far looks like Hill sta/on.Go closer to the mountains and you realise that it is in fact a dump yard. The dump yard is not isolated from urban scenario. There is a huge popula/on living around the dump yard. Including the rehabilitated 2002 riots vic/ms. The film “breathe” talks about the condi/on of the people living around the dump yard.

Advertisements made:
There are a total of ten adver/sements made by the students of Mahatma Gandhi Interna/onal School to par/cipate in the SVEEP project. The adver/sements are not made by Professionals who charge by the hour. The difference is that they are made by the BTEC students barely in their 17 and 18 years, who are undergoing Voca/onal Training at MGIS for BTEC( Business in Technical Educa/on Council) in “Crea/ve Media and Produc/on “These adver/sements portray a very clear and intensive inclina/on of the upcoming genera/on to bring in the change be it the society or be it the Poli/cal system. These students have different career paths like Chandrika Makwana is doing BA in English at St Xavier’s College, Ansh Baid is pursuing Economics while Sandeep aspires to be an Actor from NSD Delhi yet they have par/cipated in the project. This should be what educa/on should build in a child, a sensi/veness to think beyond your own self! to think for your country to contribute to the Elec/on process.
The add made by Sandeep “ The poem placed in the opening of the Document depicts a clear idea that the upcoming genera/on is not only wants to study and get out of the country, fly of to US or UK for a bright future. They are also thinking of the vo/ng importance, the essence of Democracy and a brighter future for “ Bharat “

External visits completed till now
Dear Meenakshi. !I hope you and your lovely colleagues are well. My best wishes to you all! !Sadly I will not be visi/ng you this year. The alloca/ons and standardisa/on people here in the UK have messed things up this year and I am not visi/ng any of my usual centers in China or India. I am really sorry for this, but I am sure that whoever does visit you will do a great job. !I have been working with my physical theatre students throughout semester 1 and tomorrow I will present to them the concept for the public performance they are to make. Using you student's brilliant film I Am Not Guilty, and the terrible experiences of one of our third-‐year students who was drugged and raped at a party, we will be making a performance called Tainted. May I just ask again whether you are happy for me to use your work as a s/mulus for ours? !The show will be performed in the Arena Theatre in Wolverhampton and although the actual performance will not be filmed, the dress rehearsal will and will make sure you get a copy. !Many thanks to you, your colleagues and your students for allowing me to see the film in the first place. !I look forward to hearing from you. !Kind regards. !Paul B

The tour to universi/es like Winchester, BCoT and Dudley College definitely brings out opportuni/es that both the countries can tap and ini/ate projects where they can work on common grounds. It was an amazing experience to visit different ins/tu/ons and meet people of different skill sets. We realised that, going global is such a need for all ins/tutes for both academic and voca/onal development. We believe and trust that the outcome such visits would result into rela/onship not only between the ins/tutes but also between
the two countries UK & India.
