Blumhouse Productions

• Arguably the top producers in the horror division with classics such as Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Sinister and The Purge. Blumhouse Productions would be a perfect company to produce our new unique horror film, Lullaby. The company would be able to give the film instant appeal as the audience will automatically feel the film is worth a watch due to the successful history of Blumhouse Productions. With the owner placing an emphasis on low-budget films, Lullaby seems to be a perfect fit for the company and can benefit each other. Finally with Blumhouse also working alongside Lionsgate, Paramount and Universal on previous occasions it would be a good chance for Lullaby to work with a major conglomerate.

Target Audience

• Based on market research I came up with a suitable target audience for my film trailer while also allowing the product to be able to suit many ages, demographics and psychographics. The main target audience would be young adults aged 18-22 from both genders. Many people responded stating in their spare time they enjoyed watching films at home and at the cinema. This is why I would utilise this age group as my target audience as they are the most likely to enjoy my product and watch my product. When asked their favourite type of horror the highest percentage said a psychotic thriller/horror, this allows my film to have an increased chance of success.

Conventions of Genre: Sound/Mise-en-scene

• We would use conventional sounds such as footsteps, music box’s, heartbeats to create that animosity feeling

• Also we will use both diegetic and non-diegetic to bring across both live tension and added fear into scenes which can allow the audience a greater response to horrors.

• The use of low-key lighting is vital to create darkness and build of tension.• The main location is a rural bungalow, this signifies isolation and abandonment, this is

conventional to horrors as it allows the audience to relate to spooky situations.• We would use props such as music boxes and rocking chairs. These could been seen as

everyday children’s toys, however, when given a sense of abandonment and fear they turn into spooky props.

• Costumes included dark clothing, country hats for the antagonist this gives him a unique look which is essential for remember the antagonists for horrors and it allows us to bring something new to the market. The protagonist will wear everyday casual clothing to reflect she is just an average young adult.

Conventions of genre: Editing/Camerawork

• Short takes will be used to build a rush of fear and tension, we would use long takes to build tension and fear slowly. This allows the audience to think deeply about the scene and envision what is going to happen next.

• Ellipsis of time will be used in the trailer to save time and add important scenes and shots to give across the story.

• Fast paced editing will be used as it allows tension to build to significant moment in the trailer which fixes in the audience mind.

• Close ups will be used regularly as they show the audience characters emotions and expressions which are essential to horrors.

• The use of high and low angle shots will allow us to show the difference in strength and dominance in both the antagonist and protagonist.

Conventions of Form

• The antagonist will not use hardly any dialogue so we can keep him mysterious.

• Certain scenes will have louder sounds so it makes the audience remember these scenes.
