During our research stage we focused on film makers such as,

LOUIS THEROUX is a English/American documenter who is famous for his 'gonzo‘ style journalism. He is most known for his collection of documentaries 'when Louis met...' and his bbc specials such as 'the most hated family in America'.

NICK BROOMFIELD is possibly the most famous British documenter, his films are made up of him and only one camera man providing Broomfield with a very distinctive documentary style. His most famous documentary is his 1998 'Kurt and Courtney' the investigation of Kurt Cobains’ death.

MICHAEL MOORE is an American documentary maker/political commentator. He has produced half of the highest-grossing documentaries of all time and is well known for his controversial topics including constantly criticising, George Bush, The Iraq war and Globalisation. He produced 'Fahrenheit 9/11' the documentary investigating into the controversial topic of the bombings in America in 2001

•During our research into documentary styles we came to understand what made the typical forms and conventions of real media products.

•Rather than challenge these, we tried to reform to them in order to make our documentary more professional.

•We based our documentary on the style of Channel four documentaries as they are produced in a way which is interesting and accessible to all ages.

•As our topic is ‘teenage car accidents’, our target audience is 17 year olds learning to drive and their parents.

•We wanted our product to be educational and shocking so that people watching would realise the harsh reality of irresponsible teens.

We used fast music over quick changing shots, such as the showreel of archive footage used as an introduction

We used the same background of moving traffic behind out statistics

We used four interviews in order to use a collaboration of techniques.

Each of our interviews used a different perspectives from Teachers, and family to friends and first person.

We used voice over on our statistics. We did NOT use an interviewers voice in our interviews.

We used a wide rage of our own footage, archive footage and lots of different camera angles in order to keep each shot interesting and individual.

The combination of my main product and my supporting pieces works well to compliment each other. As our documentary is aimed at

teenagers, I have written a magazine style article including a review and interview with the ‘director’ of the piece. I chose to write in the style of a magazine rather than a newspaper as teenagers would be more likely to read it if it was to be published. We also completed a joint supporting piece in the form of a radio advertisement, once again aimed at teenagers and it allowed us to use 'garage band' a new programme to us. The documentary is of a very serious topic which links well with the radio advert, the magazine adds a critical perspective as well as a first hand

interview with the director, which adds variety to my final portfolio.

how our documentary will

be received.

Pros Cons•Very effective at getting the issue across.•Good use of archive footage.•Good variety of shots especially interviews.•Shocking statistics used that really makes people think first.

•Sound was sometimes too quiet.•Speech was sometimes cut off.
