TASKThe task we had to do for media was create a

film that includes a character arriving at the door, the door being opened and the character sitting opposite another character, as they exchange four lines of dialogue. In this short film we had to create two characters that have met before and there is dramatic conflict between them. The camera shots we had to use are close ups, long shot and wide shot.

Our script decisionWhat our group chose was a boss and employee, because he keeps

coming in late and not doing the work. The employee then starts swearing at his boss until he says the words he’s been dreading all his life “i have cancer.” This finishes there and leaves the audience on a huge dramatic cliff hanger. However we all came to a unanimous decision to go with another group member. Kristy's script was about a boss cheating on his wife and sleeping with his employee. The employee is manipulating the boss so she can get a promotion and make him divorce his wife. Although, we don’t know if the affair will continue as he feels very guilty, but will Emma the employee manipulate him to leave her? This leaves the audience on the edge of their seat as its a big cliff hanger to make the audience salivate for the next show.

What I did during filmingWhat I did during our film was the sound. I

had to make sure the audience can hear the emotion and the drama from the actors or else it would be a mess and you wouldn’t be able to hear anything. The camera shots we used for our film was: close up, long shot, wide shot, panning, two shot, establishing shot and a point of view shot. We used these camera shots to give a dramatic and captivating film to draw in more viewers and make it as dramatic as possible.

Research and Final Cut The research we had to do was watch other

drama shows and see how they edit, what camera shots they used and the mise-en-scene. We also had to research final cut.

Final cut screen grabsTop left is your browser, the browser is where imported images are held . To import either video or audio in final cut you click file scroll down to import , then across to file.

In the browser you should have tabs, this is where you find transitions and video effects , such as texts.

The time line is where most of the editing takes place starting by dragging things down to the browser . The time line has padlock symbols, which when clicked allows you to block one area of your work . Anything that is blocked will not be affected by an edit that you carry out.

MuteFinal cut has a set of green buttons on the left hand side if these are clicked they will mute audio

Toggle buttonIf you want to change your sound levels you can act on this by clicking the toggle button (which looks like a strange N). When the toggle button is clicked two pink line will appear allowing you to raise or lower sound levels fade in and out.

ToolsTo the right of your screen is a tool bar and your audio indicator. Razor tool, cursor, pen tool. Razor, this is used to cut away image or audio that you don’t want

Final cut propertiesFirst thing you need to know is final cut is not destructive therefore any edit move you do can be undone. Edit undo is limitless. To edit undo go file and undo.

EditingTo edit our film in final cut we had to put transitions. Transitions

are moving swiftly from one scene to the next without a break. Editing is all about transition decisions. The transitions we had to use are:

The cut: The cut is the most basic editing technique that can be used. The cut is where a length of film is divided at one point and joined to another.

Dissolve: One image slowly fades out as another one comes into focus

Wipe: Black screen is introduced at one end of the image and taking out the image by drawing it across the image by going black or introducing a new scene.

Shot reverse shot: It’s used between two actors in conversation, one actor appears on screen and delivers dialogue, cuts to the 2nd actor to react then back to the original actor.

Sound and camera shots usedThe camera shots I used are: close up, long shot, wide shot, panning,

two shot, establishing shot and a point of view shot. Close up- on a face or item to give dramatic effectLong shot- so you can see what is happening from a distanceWide shot-showing overall of a room so we know where they are and

gives us a wide angle viewPanning shot- when Emma walks into the room the camera follows

her as its still to give the effect of drama Two shot- when the two characters are in a scene Establishing shot- of Emma when she knocks on Phil’s officePoint of view shot- so we have a better idea of how the character is

feeling and what they thinking.SoundThe sound I used was ambient sound. I used ambient sound when

Emma was walking in the hallway to give the effect of a busy office.I also used dialogue between the two characters so we can hear what

they feel and say to make it more dramatic and more confrontational.

Equipment The equipment I used was a tripod, camera, sound boom, mic

and headphones.Tripod: To make the camera stay still whilst you move the

tripod up and down or left and right to get different variation of camera shots.

Camera: to film what is going on in that scene so everyone can watch it.

Sound boom: The sound boom extends so you can attach a mic on top to hear sound whilst you are far away to make sure your not in that shot

Mic: The microphone is used so you can hear the actors speaking

Headphones: We use headphones so we can hear the sound clearly.

Voice overVoice over is the sound I chose. A voice over is

when non diegetic voice is being played over an image or video.
