Camera: The Birdseye camera shot of the distorted fingers would remind the reader of a police criminal photograph. This is a signifier for crime and also elements of danger to be shown in the rest of the film.Mise-en-scene : in the opening sequence of the movie the director consistently uses a dark and eerie lighting. This is a signifier for enigma in the rest of the novel as and also gives the audience the feeling of mystery. This enigmatic feel would make the audience inquisitive as to Editing: in the editing of the opening sequence the technical directors would have purposely used a slow moving shot transition. This adds to the mysterious and eerie environment the director would be trying to create -the use of blades in the opening sequence is a signifier of danger in the rest of the film. This connotes to the audience that in the rest of the film danger will be involved, however this is also enigmatic as the audience is not yet sure when this is going to happen

The Purge CAST:DIRECTOR:Ethan HawkeJames DeMonacoLena HeadeyMax BurkholderAdelaide KaneRhys WakefieldEdwin HodgeTony OllerArija Bareikishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0lcdgDCytA Camera: The audience would have intersexual recognised the camera shots in the opening sequence of the purge from the crime genre. This would be because of the director purposely using camera shots that remind the reader of CCTV footage. This would be recognised by the reader and would also signify crime within the rest of the film.

Editing: In the opening sequence the technical editing used a bricolage of many different CCTV footage videos of the crimes. The flashes during transition from video to video add too the effect director creates, which makes the bricolage look more authentic and adds to the audiences experience as this makes the footage more believable.Sound: the non diegetic sound of the classical music used in the background would have been used by the director as a binary contrast. This is because classical music would remind the audience of peace which is contrasted by the war and fighting in the scene. This shows the Levi Strauss theory of binary opposites Mise-en-scene: in most of the opening sequence most of the crime took place in the night. The director used lighting effectively as night and darkness gives the enigma effect as the audience would not be able to see the whole action as clear as in the day.The girl with the dragon tattooCAST:DIRECTOR:Daniel CraigNiels Arden OplevRooney MaraChristopher PlummerStellan SkarsgrdSteven BerkoffRobin WrightYorick van Wageningen

Sound: the non diegetic sound of the music in the background of the music in the background is used by the directors of the piece to intensify the tension experienced by the audience in the opening sequence. This being used at the start of the film would set up the tentative and exciting tone for the rest of the film with the use of this fast pace music at the start. Editing: in the opening sequence the sot to shot transitions follow the beat of the non diegetic sound of the background music. This technique would be used by the director so that the fast pace of the music in the scene is matched by fast pace shot transitions, giving an overall fast pace feel to the piece Camera: the opening sequence extreme close ups were used to show the deepness of the blacks and the details in the dark colours used in the opening sequence. The use of these extreme close up shots allows the audience to only see glimpses of the action and not see the scene as a whole. This add the enigma that the director would have tried to portray and leaves the audience in suspense and on edge to see the rest of the film. Constant pan and pedestal movements were used in the opening. These constants slow pan and ped movements adds to the theme of the thriller genres constant thrills and enigma.Sin cityCAST:DIRECTOR:Jessica albaQuentin TarantinoMickey RourkeRosario Dawson Bruce WillisClive OwenJaime KingBrittany Murphy

Mise-en-scene: the director used two basic colours black and white in the whole of the opening sequence purposefully to give the piece a old fashioned and enigmatic tone. Also highlights of the colour red appear in the opening sequence. The tones of red could have been used to signify blood and this would have been interpreted by the reader as a cultural code for violence in the rest of the film. By using a black and white backdrop is highlights the red in more Sound: at the start of the opening sequence the volume of the music was quiet, however the music slowly increases. The diegetic sound of police cars in the very start of the sequence is a cultural code for crime. The audience would recognise this sound and automatically link this to crime and in addition expect crime to be prevalent in the rest of the film, and also links to the crime thriller genre. Editing: the opening sequence uses all black and white, animated pictures of characters within the film in action position. It also used a flash in and fade out transition. The cartoons action positions e.g holding guns, running, combined with the flash transitions used in the opening add pace and tension to the opening sequence. In addition to this a fade out was used for each shot transition, which would give the opening sequence and enigmatic tone and leave the audience In suspense, and also builds tension within the piece. Camera: the camera movement at the start used a spiral movement of a city which gradually rose into a Birdseye view of a city. By the camera centred around the main part of the city it shows that the danger will be concentrated on the urban area of the city which is more densely populated. Also by looking down on the city it gives the city a sense of vulnerability to the city which is ironic considering the size of the city, this would show the extent of the action for a whole city to become the subject of victimisation and intimidation.10What makes a good thriller?

A good thriller showcases intense excitement building up suspense, tension and anticipation of things to come. The movie genre provides thrills from various circumstance accounting mysterious situations which has an enigmatic effect on audience.

A thriller usually consists of a battle between the protagonist character and the antagonist, when there is a disruption in the equilibrium. Then the story shows a chain of bad events building tension and suspense for the climax. The aim of the protagonist is to restore justice, while the antagonist seeks to destroy it.

Treatment of our Psychological Thriller-Hanna Balinski12Our main plot is focused on a girl aged 18 (Hanna Balinski) who befriends a younger girl aged 16 (Carrie) and tries to control her life; influencing the way she acts, dresses and what she eats After Carrie refuses to take part in cannibalistic activities; Hanna Balinski turns on her and Carrie makes it her mission to escape before she too becomes main course of Hannas grand feast.

Costume: Hanna wears very provocative clothing (usually red), symbolising danger, sexuality, murder and her hunger for blood-drenched meats. Carrie wears dark clothing. She dresses quite modestly in jumpers and jeans. Her clothing style changes to become more sexual, similar to Hannas as she is influenced.

Body language: Hannas body movement is very controlled and eloquent. Can be quick, sharp, and aggressive. Carries body movement is very awkward, still and clumsy.

Technical elements Opening sequence duration: 2 minutes

Location:We hope to film our opening sequence in one of the performing arts studios in Dagenham Park. We want to film our opening sequence here because then our set will be dark and we will have access to a range of lighting, i.e. strobe and red lighting that will make our film more disorientated and eerie for our audience to watch.

Visual elements: We will edit our opening sequence framing various objects to create a montage of images, such as a bloody knife, slicing meat, etc. Our camera movement will include transitions from slow zooms and quick shots between montages and angles add to make our film more thrilling.

Sound:Sound used in our film will be made up of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds with diegetic sounds being enhanced to make our opening sequence impacting and thrilling. This includes sounds such as slicing meat and sharpening knifes. We also want to have sounds playing in the background that are eerie and make the audience feel uncomfortable and scared, such as increasingly loud drums banging, a low/out of tune piano or violins. This technique will engage the senses and make the audience feel uncomfortable and tense which is my intended effect.

Props: Tool-box, cage, fake blood, meat, rope, books about cannibalism, red lipstick, toothpick. 13Intended Target audience We want our film to appeal to audiences within the age demographic of 15-20. This is because young people are at a stage of development where they want to learn and experience new things. Horror and thriller genres often provide cheap, safe thrills. Weve aimed our thriller at teens specifically because the characters in our film are teenagers and therefore, our teen audience can relate.

Gender demographic:Females and males. The characters within our opening sequence are both females, therefore the heterosexual, male audience may be attracted to the characters. Combined with male hormonal desires with there love for blood, violence and gore; this will certainly appeal to the teen boys.Stereotypically females are thought to be more sensitive and scared of themes that involve blood and gore. However, this isn't the case for all females. And by having female characters within our film; we can appeal to a larger female demographic through realistic portrayals of friendship and betrayal, which females can relate to and also thrilling twists that keeps them on the edge of their seats.

14Film rating After reading through the guidelines set by the of BBFC; we have chosen to rate our film a 15.

There will be: Adult themesSome use of strong languageScenes containing violent implications throughout the film that some viewers may find disturbing. We didn't rate our film 18 because it doesn't contain nudity or scenes of a sexual nature.

limitations We may not be able to get the props we want such as, a human size cage. In this case we may use a chair as a prop instead. Some of our team may not be available for filming and rehearsal days. In this case well starting filming the knives and meat, e.t.c for our montages and film shots that they aren't in.
