For our target audience we

gave out a questionnaires

to see what genre of music

they are interested in and

what they expect to see in

a music video. As the

storyline targets different

races, gender and age. By

using the questionnaires as

primary information it would

help our video be more

successful.

In our questionnaire as well we also targeted a range of age groups to see what style of music they enjoy. It gave me an insight of which age groups were interested in. Where we could see if we could present there ideas in to our video targeting our audience of teenagers and young adults.

My partner and I ensured that we gave majority of the questionnaires to people that were within the age group of our target audience, so we were able to use their ideas to produce a creative music video that appealed to the audience that we are targeting.

In my questionnaire I asked my target audience what radio stations they listen to as

they can tune in wherever they are to listen to their favourite artists. This helps me

identify the type of music my target group listen to and also demonstrates how people

access their music.

The bulk of my target audience chose either Kiss, Capital Fm or Capital Xtra (Choice

FM). From this I could interpret the main genres people listen to. This was either, R’n’B

or Hip Hop.

Many radio stations play a selection of music such as pop, dance, house, techno and

other types of music on their channel. However some will only play one genre such as

Kerrang, as they only play rock and heavy metal on their station.

In our questionnaire one of the questions we also asked was what type of genre

people like the most. Majority of the people chose either ‘Hip hop’ or R’n’B. This

question was the base of music video production as this charted our decision

making to choose the song ‘Beautiful People’ by Chris Brown, as he is an iconic hip

hop and R’n’B artist.

This would be a successful music video as most of our target audience would enjoy

it. When it came to producing my music video I used more R’n’B conventions than

hip hop as it was more difficult to use some conventions of the hip hop genre as

there were limited locations and props we could use to make it effective.

In addition we asked what music channels they watch as it another way

people can watch and listen to their favourite artists. This enables us to see

what music videos people like and their taste in music.

It helps Fortune and I to see what type of music videos they watch and see

what conventions they include in their video.

We asked this question to see which artist’s music video they enjoy

watching. I named a variety of artists such as Coldplay, Michael Jackson,

Beyonce and other artists.

I listed these specific artists as they are currently in the top charts and we

had watched their videos as they all have similarities and differences in

each of them, giving us ideas that we can interpret in to our video. Also

following the conventions that should be included in our music video.

In the questionnaire we also asked what type of locations people would like to see in our music video. By receiving feedback from people we were able to see their ideas by asking them the locations they would like us to include in our music video.

We gave a range of locations to choose from. The main locations they were interested in was a rave, concert and a shopping centre. From this we were able to interpret our ideas in to the video using these locations.

Once we finished our video the questionnaires we handed out provided us with the results we wanted to see as 95% of the people we gave out said that they liked our story line. From the positive results we were able to keep the original story line and represented a range of youths together partying and enjoying their lives. This highlighted the lyrics ‘live your life’ as they were excited and smiling demonstrating that they wasn’t bothered about people bringing them down ‘don’t let them bring you down’. I ensured that the storyline remained to follow the R’n’B and dance conventions.

The results from the questionnaires were extremely helpful as it gave us many ideas that our target audience were interested in. It enabled us to keep the ideas of the representation of youth and culture uniting together living their lives. This illustrates that our ideas were successful as many people enjoyed our videos. By receiving feedback from our target audience it allowed us to see what people liked and disliked about the video analysing our areas of improvement so it would look more professional and appealing to our viewers.
