Grab your X-Tool parts and driving gloves and get ready to race!Mechanix Racing brings the line ofHot Wheels Mechanix carsto the PC for racing and adventure excitement. You can collect carparts and X-Tool points on different racetracks to further customizeyour cars. These Mechanix parts give better performance to eachcar you can add wings to fly over obstacles or off-road tires todrive full-speed through a series of mud patches!

Choose a Mechanix Car and hit the racetracks to compete for first

place. You will begin with a choice of only 6 Cars. Unlock additionalCars by collecting X-Tool parts or by finishing 1st on each race. Avoidthe obstacles, or equip your Car with upgrades to drive through them!

Before you can play the Championship track Asteroid Belt, you willhave to unlock all 12 cars. So put the pedal to the metal and go forfirst place, picking up the X-Tool as you race your way to victory.

1. Insert the Hot Wheels Mechanix CD-ROM disc into your drive.

2. If you have the Auto insert notification feature enabled for yourCD-ROM, just left click on the install button and skip the nexttwo steps.

3. Select Start and then Run from the Windows Taskbar.

4. Type d:\setup (d refers to your CD-ROM drive. If your CD-ROM

drive is not d; type the appropriate drive letter.)

5. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

After installation is complete, you find an icon for Hot WheelsMechanix in the Hot Wheels menu item within Programs underthe Start Menu in the Windows Taskbar as well as on the desktop.

Anytime you want to run the Hot Wheels Mechanix game, youmust place the Hot Wheels Mechanix CD-ROM disc into the drivebefore you start the program. Insert the Hot Wheels MechanixCD-ROM into your drive and perform the following:

1. If you have the Auto Insert notification feature enabled, just leftclick on the Play button.

2. You may also double click on the desktop icon and then selectPlay or select Start from the Windows Taskbar and searchthrough Programs for the Hot Wheels Mechanix menu.

1. If you have the Auto Insert notification feature enabled, just leftclick on the Uninstall button.

2. You may also uninstall the program by using the Add/RemovePrograms Control Panel or from the Start Menu search throughthe listed Programs for the Hot Wheels Mechanix Uninstall.

From the Main Menu, you have three choices Race, Options, andinto the selection window, or use the arrow keys. When you are onthe selection you want, click in the large screen shot to advance tothe next screen. Clicking on the BACK arrow in the lower right handcorner has the same effect as choosing Exit from the Main Menu.

Race Grab your X-Tool and head for the tracks.Options Customize the game settings. See the next section formore information.Exit To EXIT Hot Wheels Mechanix, move the cursor over EXITand left click. A message will ask if you are sure you want to exit the

game; Type Y (for Yes) to return to your Desktop. Type N (for No)to go back to the Main Menu.

You can customize the game settings ofHot Wheels Mechanixvia the Options Menu. Here are the things you can adjust and change.

Wheel/Joystick How do you want to play the game? Hot WheelsMechanix supports the keyboard, a game pad, a joystick or even aracing wheel.

Background Music Turn the background music on or off or adjustthe volume.

Sound Effects Turn the sound effects on or off or adjust the volume.

Visual Effects If your system is very close to the minimum specslisted at the beginning of the manual, make sure you turn off VisualEffects it will help the game run faster. This will automatically be setto OFF when playing in Software mode.

New Player Begin a new game as a new player. Warning: This willdelete any previously saved drivers! Only select NEW PLAYER when youwant to start over from the beginning.

Select TrackOnce you pick the Race option from the Main Menu, you will firsthave to select the track you want to race on. Initially there are threetracks available Urban Wasteland, Tiki Jungle, and Pluto Mines. Ifyou do well on these tracks (finishing first or collecting the requiredamount ofX-Tool) you will unlock the other three tracks ConstructionSite, Beachway, and Moon Base. If you complete the first six tracks,you will unlock the final track, Asteroid Belt.

unlock these extra cars too!

Select CarAfter selecting your track, you willhave to select your car. Initially youcan play as one of the following cars Track T, Cat-A-Pult, ScreaminHauler, Silhouette II, Sol-Aire CX4or the Splittins Image. As you do wellonthe tracks, you will begin to unlock

the other cars to make them available.

Configure VehiclePick up blue Mechanix Tool Boxes on the track to unlock some ofthese add-ons for your vehicle. Heres a list of the things you can addto your car for better performance.

Paint Dont like the default color? Then change it to somethingmore to your liking. You must collect the different paint jobs foreach car.

Tires Select from Pontoon, Spikes, or Off-Road tires. Pickthe ones that best suit the track you will be racing on.

Engines Select from 50HP, 100HP, or 150HP engines. The bigger

engines will get you better speed and acceleration.

Wings Upgrade your vehicle with either short, medium, or longwings. Wings help your car when they go airborne so if the trackhas a lot of jumps, add better wings to help you get better air andcontrol.

The Race With the track picked out and your car selected andconfigured, you are finally ready to race. The main path is clearlymarked with checkpoints. As long as you hit the checkpoints in order,your car will power up giving you additional speed. Miss a gate, and

your car will fall back in power to where it started. Miss three gatesand the race is over. Also, if you miss two gates in onelap, you will fail and the race will be over.

Hot Wheels Mechanix TipSo why would you miss a gate? To collect the number ofX-Toolpoints you need to fulfill the secondary goal on each course, you willhave to find nearly all of the Silver and GoldX-Tool boxes. Some ofthem are located in tricky spots, which will cause you to miss a gateor two. If you fall too far behind, you might need to take a shortcut.

When you are out searching for X-Tool pickups, we know that youcan get turned around. Thats why weve put the green arrow on-screen.It always lets you know which direction you should be heading toreach the next checkpoint.

You can also see what place the cars are in front of you by the numberfloating above the car as you approach it. Keep thepedal to the metal and race past all of your opponents.

During the race you will see three kinds of tool boxes. Drive throughthem to collect the bonus.

Silver X-Tool BoxesThe Silver X-Tool Boxes areworth 5 tools. You will need tocollect these in order to reach thesecondary goal on each track.

Gold X-Tool BoxesThe Gold X-Tool Boxes are worth10 tools. Make sure you go for thesewhen you see them they are definitelyworth finding!

Mechanix Tool BoxesBlue Mechanix Tool Boxes contain upgradesthat you can use to configure your car the nexttime you race like Paint so your car can be adifferent color. See page 10 for a listing of allthe upgrades you can get for your car (in theConfigure Vehicle section).
