SECTION 3: CIRCUIT REQUIREMENTS

G0560 Meat-Cutting Bandsaw -7-

Electrocution or a firecan result if the machineis not grounded correct-ly. Make sure all electri-cal circuits are ground-ed. DO NOT use themachine if it is notgrounded.

If you find it necessary to use an extensioncord with this machine:

• Only use a cord that is rated for standard ser-vice (Grade S).

• Only use a cord that contains a groundingprong.

• Use at least a 16 gauge cord if the cord is 50feet long or less.

• Use at least a 14 gauge cord if the cord isbetween 50-100 feet.

• Always repair or replace cords when theybecome worn or damaged.

We DO NOT recommend using an extensioncord if you are operating your bandsaw on a 220Vpower source.

NOTICEThe wire on the power cord with green orgreen and yellow striped insulation is thegrounding conductor.

In the event of an electrical short, groundingreduces the risk of electric shock by providing apath of least resistance to disperse electric cur-rent. This tool is equipped with a power cord thathas an equipment-grounding prong. The outletmust be properly installed and grounded in accor-dance with all local codes and ordinances.

The Model G0560 can be rewired to operate on a220V power source. The motor must be rewiredaccording to the wiring diagram on the motorlabel. The wiring configuration can also be foundon the inside of the motor wire cover, as well ason page 33.

This procedure takes moderate electrical skill andthe rewiring job should be inspected by a licensedelectrician before turning the machine ON.

Always check to see if the wires in your circuit arecapable of handling the amperage draw fromyour machine, as well as any other machines thatcould be operating on the same circuit. If you areunsure, consult a qualified electrician.

If the circuit breaker trips or the fuse blows regu-larly, your machine may be operating on a circuitthat is close to its amperage draw capacity. However, if an unusual amperage draw does notexist and a power failure still occurs, contact aqualified electrician.

Working ClearancesConsider existing and anticipated needs, size ofmaterial to be processed, and space for auxiliarystands, work tables or other machinery whenestablishing a location for your bandsaw.

Clean Up

The table and guard pieces come with a protec-tive coating. Peel this off before cleaning thesepieces. Clean and sanitize all parts of the sawthat will be in contact with meat or any other fooditems. The smaller items and table will fit in mostdishwashers. This is probably the easiest methodof cleaning and sanitizing these parts. For thelarger parts of the saw, if a dishwasher is notavailable, clean with a sanitizing agent. SeeSection 5: Sanitation for details on sanitizing.Get in the habit of cleaning your saw thoroughlyto avoid contamination and illnesses.

When cleaning with sanitizers, always fol-low the recommendations on the manu-facturer’s label, and make sure that theproduct will do the job for which youintend. Never use a product that will makeyour meat unsafe for human consumption.Failure to follow this warning may lead tosickness or death!

3. Adjust the tracking setscrews so that theblade remains in the center of the wheelwhen you spin the wheel by hand. After theblade appears to be tracking correctly, spinthe wheel at least three full times to ensurethat the blade remains centered, and thenreplace the upper wheel cover, turn on themachine and test the blade tracking. If thereare problems, repeat steps 1-3.

Blade Tracking

G0560 Meat-Cutting Bandsaw -25-

The support bearing backs the blade during oper-ation. As mentioned in the “Blade Guard” instruc-tions, the blade guide assembly (with the supportbearing) should be lowered to within an inch fromthe material you are cutting to be most efficient.

The support bearing shown in Figure 38 shouldbe approximately 0.016" away from the back ofthe blade. This is about four thicknesses of a dol-lar bill. To adjust the support bearing, loosen thesupport bearing shaft thumbscrew and slide thesupport bearing forward or backward as neces-sary.

10. Blade installation is the opposite of removal.Once the blade is installed, remember to ten-sion it appropriately, set the blade guides, and replace the V-belt.

Make sure all components that wereremoved have been placed back in theiroriginal position, are adjusted correctly, and all guards are in place before you plugthe bandsaw back into the power outlet. Aninjury may occur if this caution is ignored.

Once assembly is complete and adjustments aredone to your satisfaction, you are ready to startthe machine.

Press the START button. Make sure that your fin-ger is poised on the STOP button just in casethere is a problem. The bandsaw should runsmoothly with little or no vibration or rubbing nois-es. Strange or unnatural noises should be inves-tigated and corrected before operating themachine further.

NOTICEThe following section was designed to pro-vide a basic understanding of the types ofitems that can be cut with the meat-cuttingbandsaw. This manual is in no way a guideto cutting meat, dressing animals or safemeat handling techniques. WE STRONGLYRECOMMEND that you read books, maga-zines or take lessons that specifically dealwith meat cutting and animal dressingapplications.

Read the entire manualbefore making any cutswith your bandsaw.Serious personal injurymay result if safety oroperational informationis not understood or fol-lowed.

Cutting Meat

Your Model G0560 Meat-Cutting Bandsaw willcut through any fresh meat and almost all frozenmeat.

To cut meat with your bandsaw:

1. Use the side fence to gauge the thickness ofyour desired cut. The front fence shouldbrace the meat. Make sure that either of thefences or their rails will not be in line with thecut.

2. Turn the power ON and slowly guide themeat into the blade by sliding the table. Withfrozen meat, pay close attention to the rateat which you feed the meat into the movingblade. All cuts should be slow and smooth. Ifyou hear the motor slow down or strugglewith the cut, stop the cut.

3. Clear the slice you just cut and slide themeat toward the side fence. You can makesuccessive cuts and the following slices willbe the same thickness as the first.

This bandsaw can cutyour fingers off or causeother bodily harm. Use awooden push stick whencutting small pieces andalways properly supportany item you cut.

Bacteria from raw meat has been frequentlylinked to illness and even death! Describingproper meat handling techniques outside ofcleaning the bandsaw is beyond the scope ofthis manual. If you are unclear about sanitarymeat handling practices, contact your localBoard of Health or the USDA to research theproper methods of meat handling.

This bandsaw can cutyour fingers off or causeother bodily harm. Use awooden push stick whencutting small pieces andalways properly supportany item you cut.

The meat grinder caneasily grind your fingers.Never use your fingers topush meat into thegrinder. Always use theprovided pusher andremove the meat grinderwhen not in use.

Besides meat, this bandsaw can cut throughbone too.

When cutting bone:

Feed the bone into the blade slowly. If you hearthe motor slow down during cutting, stop cuttingat once. DO NOT twist the blade during the cut.The blade may bind or break.

The meat grinder is great for grinding hamburgeror sausage. The grinder automatically engageswhen it is mounted to the bandsaw unit.

To use the meat grinder:

1. Make sure that all the grinder componentsare cleaned and sanitized thoroughly beforeusing them.

2. Lower the blade guard as low as it will goand lock it in place.

3. Prepare a place for the ground meat to exitthe grinder.

4. Drop pieces of meat into the grinder, one ata time. Use the pusher to help the meat intothe spinning auger, but do not overload thegrinder.

5. Always clean and sanitize all parts of thegrinder that have been exposed to meat orfood particles.

DO NOT have the meat grinder installed onthe bandsaw when not in use.

2. If used, disassemble the meat grinder(Figure 40).

Figure 40. Meat grinder components disassembled for cleaning.

3. Take off the upper wheel cover and open thecabinet door.

Always be as thorough aspossible when cleaning andsanitizing your meat cuttingbandsaw components. Anyparts that have beenexposed to raw meat or bonemay harbor or develop bacte-ria that may cause illness ordeath if left uncleaned.

Cleaning the bandsawwhile it is plugged in maycause severe electricalshock! Always discon-nect the power beforeattempting any cleaningor maintenance opera-tions, and after cleaning, never connect the band-saw to a power sourceuntil it is dry. Failure tofollow this warning mayresult in severe injury oreven death.

When cleaning with sani-tizers, always follow therecommendations on themanufacturer’s label, andmake sure that the productwill do the job for whichyou intend. Never use aproduct that will causeexposed surfaces to ren-der meat unsafe for humanconsumption. Failure tofollow this warning maylead to sickness or death!

SECTION 7: CLEANING/SANITIZING

G0560 Meat-Cutting Bandsaw -29-

Proper Sanitation

All surfaces and working parts that have beenexposed to meat must be properly sanitized aftereach use.

Dishwashers are a good option because theysanitize with heat. For all pieces that will not fit inthe dishwasher, or if a dishwasher is not avail-able, chemical sanitizers like bleach or iodo-pher solution are good options. There are alsoother chemical sanitizers on the market thatserve the same function. When using chemicalsanitizers, make sure they are designed to do thejob, and strictly follow the manufacturer’s recom-mendations for proper use.

Proper sanitation with chemical sanitizersrequires a process before the actual sanitizer isapplied.

The following is an effective method to pre-pare an item for sanitation:

1. Gather all the items that need to be cleaned.Remove the largest particles of foodstuffsinto a proper garbage container. Rinse allitems to remove as many of the leftover par-ticles as possible. Set the items aside.

2. Prepare the sink. Wash and scrub all sinkcompartments with dish soap and hot water.Rinse these compartments thoroughly.

4. Remove the blade from the wheels of thebandsaw (as discussed in the “ChangingBlades” instructions). Sanitize all removedpieces from the meat grinder and bandsaw, according to the following sanitation instruc-tions. If you have access to a dishwasher, use it to sanitize the parts that will fit.

5. Clean the wheels and any other part of thebandsaw unit that may have been exposedto raw meat with a direct application sanitiz-er (read “Proper Sanitation” instructions).

3. Fill a sink with soapy water, submerge theitem and scrub the entire surface thoroughly.

4. Using hot water, rinse the newly cleaneditem in the empty compartment, until all visi-ble suds have been removed. Repeat thisprocess for all of the items that need to besanitized. If the soapy water starts to gethazy, drain and rinse the sink, then fill withmore soapy water.

The items are now ready to be sanitized. Somesanitizers require direct applications, while othersare designed to be diluted in water and used tosoak the item for a specified period of time. Thebest method for choosing a chemical sanitizer isto do the research and determine which productis best for your particular situation.

One simple sanitizer that can be used for manyapplications is regular bleach. To use bleach as asanitizer, wash, scrub, and rinse your sink. For allnon-porous surfaces (includes all parts of thisbandsaw), fill the sink with one tablespoon ofbleach per gallon of cool water. Do not usebleach that contains odor masking agents or sur-factants. These have not been proven effectivefor this type of sanitation. Submerge each item fortwo minutes. For large items, submerge eachside for the specified amount of time until youhave covered the entire area. Allow to air dry. Donot rinse these items after sanitation!

If your raw meat comes into contact with non-porous surfaces (wood), clean as describedabove and soak these surfaces for two minutes ina solution of 3 tablespoons of bleach to one gal-lon of cool water. Rinse these items well!

-30- G0560 Meat-Cutting Bandsaw

Regular periodic maintenance on your ModelG0560 Meat-Cutting Bandsaw ensures its opti-mum performance. Make a habit of inspectingyour bandsaw each time you use it.

Check for the following conditions and repair orreplace when necessary.

1. Loose mounting bolts.

2. Worn switch.

3. Worn or damaged cords and plugs.

4. Damaged V-belt.

5. Any other condition that could hamper thesafe operation of this machine.

V-Belt

Avoid getting grease or oil on the V-belt or pul-leys. Check the V-belt, as part of a monthlyinspection for proper tension and belt condition.Cracking and glazing could result in belt failure.Replace the belt if such conditions appear.

Maintain your table and blade with a thin film offood grade lubricant that will not support bacteriagrowth and will not become rancid. These quali-ties are important because some food grade oilswill become rancid over time and may cause ill-nesses. Make sure that the product you use isspecifically designed for protecting food process-ing machinery. Always follow the manufacturer’srecommendations when using their products.

The wheel bearings are shielded and lubricatedfor life; thus, they require no maintenancethroughout their lifespan. Occasionally lubricatethe tracking and height adjustment controls withthe same food grade lubricant that you use on thetable.

DO NOT lubricate the meat grinder. The meatprocessed in the meat grinder naturally lubricatesthe grinder.

Disconnect power to themachine when perform-ing any adjustments ormaintenance. Failure todo this may result in seri-ous personal injury.
