Literacy

We will be reading the story of George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. We will be

creating our own recipe for a magic medicine and bringing home our instructions to make this at home! We will be working on using adjectives, bossy verbs and adverbs. Please encourage the

children to use these to write instructions for other things. We will then use this to think about

what may happen in our own sto- ry and writing our own book.

Maths

This term we will be working on addition and sub-traction—focusing a lot on the place value of each digit (e.g. 23 is 20 and 3 not 2 and 3). Please see if you can ask your child lots of questions and word

problems at home where they can apply these skills. We will also be learning about different

measures (length, capacity and mass) and how and when to use them. We will be exploring

multiplication and division. Please encourage your child to experience and use these mathematical

Art We will be creating

artwork inspired by the natural environment and

exploring artists who have used this as

inspiration such as Andy Goldsworthy.

ICT We are learning about e-

safety and how we can help others become e-safe. We

will be looking at making safety videos for our

friends. Look at the CEOP website -(parents section) at the resources and talk about E-safety with your

child.

Science We will be learning about what

living things need to survive. We will be thinking about why

exercise and food are good for us as well as how

medicines keep us healthy. The children will have a

visit from the Life Bus on 19th/20th September—please encourage them to tell you all

about it at home.

Geography

We are learning about making maps, thinking about the

different features found on maps and also becoming orienteers. Try looking at different maps and using them at home. Discuss how

maps help us and what the features found on a map mean. Look at keys on a map and talk about how it helps when

reading a map.

PSHE We are thinking about our

feelings, class rules and new beginnings.

RE We are learning about Jewish

festivals, what happens in them and what they mean to Jews. We will also be looking at the 10 commandments, what they

mean and how they might affect our lives.

Music We are looking at rhythm

and pulse in music. Listen to lots of different music with your child and see whether they can clap

the rhythm or pulse.

PE We will be creating our own games involving throwing and catching. We will be learning the Maka Raina so maybe have a go with your child. Have fun!! Me and My World
