Does anyone remember what the www before an Internet address means?

Well just in case you have forgotten or maybe you never knew, it stands for “world-wide-web” and this little article is going to update you on the progress we are making as a Club in boosting our world-wide-web presence.

At a recent board meeting Kirsty presented a paper and outlined the rationale for our Club to develop a new website, hosted in Australia and with our own domain name. Those of you at last weeks Club meeting will recall she also provided an overview to members of why we should build a new website and with Club support how she plans to go about improving our web presence. It was pleasing to note full support by both the board and Club members of these plans. Kirsty has now taken on the task to ensure our Club will have a new website before the end of this financial year.

This is a big job and all members have a role in making the website a fantastic asset of the Club. Please search your files for high-resolution images of Rotary events you have been involved in and please write a note explaining the images so we can use these to add richness to the new site. Directors you have a special task to write about your portfolio and projects so prospective new members will understand what we do in this Club. Email your contribution to Kirsty please!

We  were  privileged  to  have  Meaghan  introduce  David  Luscombe  principal  of  David  Luscombe  and  Associates  to  speak  about  Wills.  David  advised  of  the  need  for  everyone  to  not  only  have  a  will  but  also  to  ensure  that  it  regularly  kept  up  to  date  with  your  specific  wishes.  He  also  advised  that  it  is  best  to  seek  professional  advice  to  ensure  the  will  meets  your  wishes  for  your  beneficiaries.  He  indicated  some  of  the  reasons  for  changes,  e.g.  changing  beneficiaries,  your  marital  status  changes,  changes  to  ownership  of  property,  possessions,  change  of  your  executor  etc.  In  essence  it  highlighted  the  need  to  see  your  Will  as  a  living  document  rather  than  a  one-‐off  paper  that  is  filed.

David  also  explained  the  duties  of  an  executor  of  a  Will  and  the  need  to  ensure  that  if  you  are  asked  to  be  in  such  a  position  that  you  fully  understand  what  is  expected  of  you.  He  described  the  role  as  the  person  named  in  a  Will  to  carry

2

out  the  wishes  of  a  person  after  they  die.  They  organise  to  collect  the  assets  of  the  deceased,  pay  the  debts  and  distribute  the  property  as  set  out  in  the  deceased's  Will.  Again  he  advised  that  it  is  best  to  seek  professional  advice  about  the  role  before  you  are  actually  undertaking  the  role  because  it  starts  immediately  on  the  death  of  the  person  you  are  acting  for.

Overall  this  was  an  informative  and  interesting  session  for  all  of  us  and  prompted  members  to  ask  questions  and  have  these  answered  by  David.

David  was  also  going  to  cover  the  subject  of  Powers  of  Attorney  but  we  ran  out  of  time.  He  has  agreed  to  come  back  to  the  club  to  cover  this  at  a  future  meeting.

Thank  you  David  for  such  an  informative  talk  and  for  agreeing  to  return  in  the  near  future.

Newhaven Primary Breakfast Volunteers Every  Tuesday  of  the  school  term  our  Club  provides  breakfast  to  the  little  tackers  at  Newhaven  Primary  School.    Snow  is  the  ring-‐leader  often  winding  the  darlings  up  with  bubbles,  jokes  or  the  offer  of  “poison-‐berry  jam”  which  of  course  is  a  favourite  (at  least  with  the  kids!)  Yes,  he  has  been  hauled  over  the  coals  for  misleading  advertising  but  that  is  another  story.    Phil  is  the  world  champion  of  ‘paper-‐scissors-‐rock’  but  is  challenged  for  the  title  every  time  he  shows  his  face.  There  is  some  serious  contenders  for  the  title  and  we  look  forward  to  his  next  visit  to  see  if  he  can  hold  onto  the  crown  for  a  bit  longer.  Wendy  (on  the  right)  is  our  “get  out  of  trouble”  guardian  and  reigns  in  the  kiddies  once  we  have  wound  them  up  a  bit  much  and  they  start  to  get  too  cheeky  for  us  to  handle.  Thank  goodness  for  Wendy!  Lastly  we  have  Jan  –  a  local  that  has  adopted  us  and  comes  to  help  out  every  week.  Jan  keeps  count  on  how  many  pieces  of  toast  each  one  has  had  –  ensuring  there  is  enough  to  go  around  for  all!  You  too  can  be  featured  in  this  piece  if  you  volunteer  –  see  the  roster  on  the  next  page.

Australian and UK DARTs now in Kathmandu & the Victorian Government donates equipment for DA to use in Nepal Dave Tuzewski from South Australia has now landed in Kathmandu. He is currently settling in and will be joined by UK DART Peter Hazell at the weekend. They have two Australian SkyHydrant™ water filtration systems to deploy, with more to follow. Reports from Dave and Peter are expected soon, including aspects of the latest, massive earthquake in Nepal. Victoria's Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning heard of our efforts and generously provided 400 tents and stretchers from its stocks. They will be delivered by DARTs, local Rotarians and others as a part of our work in Nepal. Other Disaster Aid relief items being shipped include:

200 tents from India; 200 tents from our warehouse in China; 200 Sawyer water filters1 flown in from USA (1we also used these in Vanuatu); 220 Disaster Aid International tents scheduled to be delivered by end of May.

Our Rotarian contacts in Nepal have advised blankets are available to purchase locally. We intend allocating funds for that and similar purposes. More information and donation forms are available from: www.disasteraidaustralia.org.au
