Claudia Randel

Claudia Randel is an illustrator graphic designer photographer sculptor and fineartist whose subjects include portraits landscapes still life and much more - aRenaissance artist for sure In addition Claudia has been a tireless advocate forArts of Point Richmond by volunteering her time and talent to create marvelousdesigns for AOPR events and exhibitions She also manages the AOPRFacebook Page

When did you first start creating art and did you begin in one particularmediumArt has been a part of my life since early childhood but when I began to createart was when I was about 13 or 14 years old At first I used mineral pigments myfather used to stain furniture Then I fell in love with pen and ink drawing I

created hand-painted cards with scenes of Chilean country life using ink andwatercolor At 17 I went to college to study to become an art teacher There Iwas introduced to oil painting which opened a new way to express myself

In the fine art side of things do you have favorite subjects that you like topaintThat is a difficult question to answer To me every object and scene presents anopportunity and a challenge I like patterns textures and light effects I havebeen doing very dramatic paintings of vegetables and fruits Tomorrow I may beinterested in the reflections on silverware or on rusty pipes I am not aiming toconvey any political or philosophical messages For now I only want to show thebeauty which is present even in the most mundane things

Tell us a bit about your process of graphic designThe first things are to know what information to communicate who is the targetaudience and where the final piece will be displayed Art is not as important asthe message but as an artist I try to merge both to communicate effectively

We really appreciate your commitment to AOPR by volunteering your timeas you have What would you say to encourage other members to volunteertheir talents to the organization Yes definitely Volunteering is very rewarding For people who are starting in thebusiness it is a great way to network and get exposure For artists who arealready part of the art scene art organizations are very symbiotic communities inwhich we artists learn from each other
