What does it mean to have a Mass "offered" for someone?

An individual may ask a priest to offer a Mass for several reasons: in thanksgiving, for the inten ons of another person or as is most common, for the repose of the soul of someone who has died for the souls in purgatory. One must never forget the infinite graces that flow from the Sacrifice of the Mass which benefit one’s soul. We find not only the origins of this prac ce da ng to the early Church but we also clearly recognize its importance. Offering Mass for a special Inten on is a long standing tradi on in the Catholic Church. It is usually considered that special graces are obtained for whom the Mass is said. If you would like to have a Mass said for someone, please contact the Parish Office 773-545-8581 ex. 0. They will help you with the dates and mes which are available.

Dear Parishioners and Friends, As we go on living and crea ng a life for ourselves, we do not stop to think what kind of fruit our ac ons will bear. O en, a er we have opened one door, we do not see other possi-bili es, or go on trying to break in an already open door. We see our imaginary goal, but do not un-derstand our intermediate objec ves, and some-

mes we also do not see the main goal which should always be Jesus Christ. Listen to the words of the Scripture to understand that Jesus opened the door to a bright future in front of us by freeing us from our sins by the revela on of the truth . Ac-cep ng this truth "Let us not love in word, nor in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And thereby know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him." (1 Jn 3, 18-19) Remaining in the truth, not only shall assure our hearts, conscience and soul, but will also allow us to see the true purpose of our journey, and help us to reach the door that Jesus is opening for us. Do we adequately understand the Gospel comparing us to climbing vines that bear much fruit? "If you abide in me, and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples. "(Jn 15,7-8). I want to live and be in the presence of the Lord. I want to be His stu-dent, learn from His love, mercy, kindness, respect for others, because then it will be be er and easier for me to live. Drodzy Parafianie i Przyjaciele, Żyjąc i tworząc, nie zastanawiamy się nawet nad tym, jakie owoce przynoszą nasze działania. Często zdarza się, że wyważamy już otwarte drzwi, nie widzimy innych możliwości, widzimy tylko nasz wyimaginowany cel, nie dostrzegamy celów pośrednich, a czasami nawet nie widzimy celu głównego, jakim powinien być Jezus Chrystus.

Wystarczy wsłuchać się w słowa Pisma Świętego i zrozumieć, jakie drzwi otwierają się przed nami i jakie to propozycje na nas czekają. Drzwi Kościoła są dla nas zawsze otwarte, a propozycje jasnej przyszłości daje nam Chrystus Zmartwychwstały, który wyzwolił nas z grzechów przez Objawienie Prawdy. Przyjmując tę prawdę „nie miłujmy słowem i językiem, ale czynem i prawdą. Po tym poznamy, że jesteśmy z prawdy, i uspokoimy przed Nim nasze serce.” (1 J 3,18-19). Pozostając w prawdzie, nie tylko uspokoimy nasze serca, sumienia i duszę, nie tylko będziemy widzieli właściwy cel naszej wędrówki, lecz także dobrniemy do otwieranych nam drzwi. Czy odpowiednio rozumiemy ewangeliczne porównanie nas do latorośli pnącej się i przynoszącej owoc obfity? „Jeżeli we Mnie trwać będziecie, a słowa moje w was, poproście, o cokolwiek chcecie, a to wam się spełni. Ojciec mój przez to dozna chwały, że owoc obfity przyniesiecie i staniecie się moimi uczniami.” (J 15,7-8). Chcę żyć i trwać w obecności, chcę być uczniem, uczyć się od Pana miłości, miłosierdzia, dobroci, poszanowania dla innych, bo wtedy lepiej i łatwiej będzie mi się żyć. PARISH TRANSFORMATION NEWS Parish Transforma on con nues as we focus on our various ini a ves under the major building blocks of Catechesis, Communio (a profound sense of communi-ty), and Missionary Spirit. Our major focus right now is on our new Hospitality Ministry, which fits under the Communio building block specifically. Here, the goal is to provide a more welcoming presence to old friends and new faces alike at our weekend liturgies as Minis-ters of Hospitality--at least one at each of the five en-trances into the church--greet and welcome people to Mass each Sunday. Ministers will be asked to arrive at church at least fi een minutes before the scheduled Mass, and they will be iden fied by Hospitality Minis-try badges (currently in the design stage). Parish organ-iza on leads are asking their members for volunteers over the course of the organiza ons’ April and May mee ngs, and we hope to implement the new ministry on the 5/15 & 17 weekend liturgies.

In an cipa on of the approaching 100-year anniversary of St. Constance Parish, you are invited to purchase from the "Tree of Life" a leaf on which you can place the names of your loved ones: par-ents, siblings, rela ves, friends, parishioners, priests, nuns, etc. Both the living and the dead can be named, so that their memory will last forever. You can have your own name on a leaf or choose to name your family. Proceeds from this project will be used for repairs of the church parking area and parish buildings. There are both large and small leaves on the "Tree of Life". For the engraving and moun ng of each small leaf, the dona on is $250.00, while for each large leaf it is $400.00. The number of leaves is limited and there may not be enough for everyone. Please visit the rectory office to complete all neces-sary transac ons.

The AM radio in my car died several months ago. I didn’t listen to a lot of AM programming, but I enjoyed Relevant Radio on my drive to and from work some mes, and I always got quick traffic and weather updates from WLS and WBBM. So when my used (but-new-to-me) Volvo was due for some scheduled maintenance a few weeks a er the AM cold shoul-der, I took it to Patrick Volvo in Schaumburg, IL and asked the service guys there how much it would cost me to get the radio fixed. A er hearing the details, they said that the car radio didn’t need to be fixed. They said it needed to be replaced. “OK,” I asked them. “How much to replace the radio?” They lost me at “several hundred dol-lars…”

So now I’m strictly an FM guy. I know I can listen to Relevant Radio online through my smart phone, but I like cranking up the dial, you know? To that end, my daughter gave me six months of Sirius XM for Christmas. While this hasn’t kept me well-informed, it has kept me well-entertained. I’m par al to channels 31 and 32. Both feature acous c guitar music, and when the radio’s on, I’d say that 75% of the

me, one of these two is coming at me. I’ve got bu ons keyed onto channel 7, as well (70s on 7), channel 49 (Soul Town), and channel 150 (Spanish music). And just recently I keyed a bu on onto a sta on I stumbled upon trying to find a local weather report. Channel 128: Joel Osteen.

If you’re not familiar with the evangelical preacher from Tex-as, I’m sure you can read about him online. What I’ve learned thus far is that he did TV produc on for his father’s ministry years ago. Then his dad died, and when Joel moved--somewhat hesitantly--into pas-toring, the flock responded. Osteen preaches a “prosperity gospel” as I’ve heard the term described (abundance here, abundance there, abundance, abundance everywhere) and I’m sure some Catholics and non-Catholic Chris ans alike take issue with it. S ll, the guy is upbeat, and--to my ears--sincere. He preaches that even when things are not going well for us, we need to be pa ent--and hopeful-- because each one of us is “a child of the most high God.” And indeed we are.

I think of Joel Osteen and his preaching now as I consider to-day’s readings. For one thing, Osteen is quick to say God puts people in our lives that can help us fulfill our divine des nies. Look at the first reading. Where would the Apostle Paul be, if not for Barnabas? Osteen is quick to say also that we have to do our part--we have to remain in faith, never doub ng that God is for us--to allow God to work miracles in our lives. OK. Now look at St. John’s encouragement/direc on in the second reading: “Beloved, if our hearts do not con-demn us, we have confidence in God and receive from him whatever we ask.” And we hear more of the same in the Gospel from Jesus him-self. “If you remain in me and my words remain in you,” he says, “ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. I decided to enroll in the RCIA program be-cause I have not had the sacrament of .Confirma on and I want to get married in the church. I was informed that I needed the sacrament of Confirma on before ge ng married. I decided on a ending at St. Con-stance because this is the parish my family and I a end. I have gained a lot of knowledge by a ending the RCIA program. I learned a great deal about the Chris an faith, how to live as a Chris an and how to develop what I learned into my everyday ac vi es. I learned about Jesus, the Bible and the Church. I was intro-duced to different prayers and ways of com-munica ng with God. I learned the history of our faith, about the life and teachings of Je-sus and the struggles He endured. I learned about Mass, the gospel, Eucharist and the sacraments. I learned new ways to read, in-terpret, reflect upon and understand the Gospel. Group discussions helped me to learn how to apply the teachings of Jesus Christ to my every day life. I learned how to look for and recognize the presence of God in my life at all mes and not just while in church. RCIA has helped me to find a closer and more meaningful rela onship with God, my family and friends. The Catholic faith means to me that no ma er where I go in the world I have family who will always be there and help me over-come the many challenges life gives me. Catholic faith is God's love that is pre-sent in us and helps us with everyday ac vi-

es. It allows us to do things that some mes we feel are not doable but with the faith and belief all is possible. I plan on living each day with the graces God has given me. I plan on helping others every day and forgiving those who have hurt me in any way. It may be difficult but with God on my side everything is possible. I also plan on sharing what I have learned with others as much as possible about the Catholic faith.

W ybory Prezydenta RP odbędą się na obszarze USA w sobotę, 9 maja 2015 r., (w Polsce 10 maja br.) zgodnie z

art. 39 § 6 ustawy z 5 stycznia 2011 r. Kodeks Wyborczy (Dz.U. Nr 21, poz. 112 z późn. zm.) oraz wydane na jej

podstawie przepisy wykonawcze.

Obywatele polscy, przebywający w dniu wyborów za granicą, będą mogli wziąć udział w głosowaniu, jeżeli

posiadają ważny polski paszport oraz zostaną wpisani – na podstawie osobistego zgłoszenia – do spisu wyborców

sporządzonego przez konsula właściwego terytorialnie dla miejsca pobytu wyborcy.

INFORMACJE O SAKRAMENTACH ŚWI ĘTYCH Chrzty… Sakrament Chrztu Świętego jest udzielany w języku angielskim i polskim. Chrzty w języku angielskim są w pierwszą i trzecią niedzielę, a w języku polskim w drugą i czwartą niedzielę każdego miesiąca. Rodzice są zobowiązani do wzięcia udziału w spotkaniu przygotowującym do tego sakramentu przed planowaną datą chrztu dziecka. Prosimy o skontaktowanie się z biurem parafialnym, aby zgłosić dziecko do chrztu. Sakrament Małżeństwa… Archidiecezja Chicago zaleca, aby osoby, które planują zawarcie sakramentu małżeństwa zgłosiły się do biura parafialnego co najmniej cztery miesiące przed datą ślubu. Chcielibyśmy i usilnie zalecamy, aby w naszej parafii okres przygotowania trwać sześć miesięcy. Prosimy, abyście najpierw ustalili termin w kościele, a następnie w innych miejscach. Zapraszamy więc do naszego biura parafialnego najwcześniej jak tylko jest to możliwe . Sakrament Namaszczenia Chorych… Prosimy o kontakt z księdzem w celu ustalenia terminu przyjęcia tego sakramentu. Przypominamy, że nie wolno zwlekać z udzieleniem sakramentu chorych do momentu kiedy osoba będzie nieprzytomna lub bliska śmierci.
