In these difficult times All Saints, St Mary’s & St Leonard’s buildings areclosed for another 3 weeks due to Covid 19. But the CHURCH, (all whofollow Jesus) continues working in our community and worldwide. “Idon’t see the church doing anything right now,” is a comment I read inthe press. But the CHURCH rather thanmeeting in a church, is being theCHURCH by praying, caring and sharing wherever we are. How?

1. Worship services online are available everywhere. In our Benefice,Sunday services are at 10:00am on Facebook live. Search for All SaintsPublow with St Mary’s & St Leonard’s to take part virtually. RecordedSunday messages are also on Youtube.com@Rev Denise CalverleyLive streamed services can be accessed at churchofengland.org. SundaysBBC 1 broadcasts a worship service at 10:45-11:15. Songs of Praise is on

at 13:15. If radio suits you, try BBC Radio 4 at 08:10am for Sunday worship or BBC Radio 3 ChoralEvensong happening every Wednesday at 15:30 and again on Sundays at 16:00.

2. We ‘gather’ for Morning Prayer for 30minutes Monday-Thursday at 09:30 on Zoom. Meetingnumber 570-780-3251. Password 762-864. We’re praying for everyone and everything, everyweek onWhatsApp.com too. Download it or join us if you already haveWhatsApp at Power ofPrayer Chain. Put in a prayer request or follow along in private prayer.

We’re caring and sharing with our neighbours by:1. Checking on neighbours and friends by phone, email or cards to make certain people are not

forgotten, especially the vulnerable & self isolating. If someone you know is alone or needshelp, we’re helping along with other community volunteers. We’re happy to ring, FaceTimechat, deliver essentials, or pray with you. To get the Online Pew Leaflet & worship resourcessent to your inbox email [email protected].

2. Naturally, stress and anxiety of different kinds effect us unexpectedly in times of change andcrisis. If you would like to speak confidentially about a nonurgent concern feel free to ring meat 07849 821 588 or [email protected] 09:30-14:30 and Sundaysfrom 11:00-12:00 after themorning service. If would like to speak anonymously andconfidentially to someone 24/7 don’t hesitate to call The Samaritans at freephone 116 123. Oremail them at [email protected]. For emergencies call 999.

3. If you have questions about any family events that ordinarily take place in church and youwould like help with these please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We hope to be able to meetagain soon in person. God bless you with His presence, Rev Denise

A Prayer from Bishop Peter and Bishop RuthBishop Peter and Bishop Ruth are asking for prayers to be said during the outbreak of the coronavirus, for all those affected by it in any way. Bishop Peter said: “This is a time of great anxiety for many. We hope and pray that people’s fears won’t be realised. In prayer, we give our anxieties and our hopes to God, as we think of those affected by the virus and those treating them.”

Lord God, carer of all people, creator, sustainer and healer; We pray for all who have contracted Covid-19. Be with them and their loved ones and bring healing to their bodies. We pray for all medical staff and emergency services as they look after the physical health, worries and concerns of their patients, especially the vulnerable and particularly those who have reduced contact with the outside world. Let us be good neighbours, looking out and after each other. We remember the work of scientists, discovering and testing vaccines for this disease, and we pray for all of us, caught up in our everyday lives with the effects of these outbreaks.Bless your world Lord, and help us to be blessings to one another, in Jesus name. Amen

Bishop Peter’s MessageA time to ‘Love our neighbours as ourselves’I wonder - are you someone who gets everything ready long before you need to; jobs done well before time; and someone who is never late for anything? Or are you someone who leaves things to the last minute; works right up to the deadline; and catches the bus or train with moments to spare? Or maybe you are somewhere in the middle? One of the things that Bishop Ruth and I enjoy doing is writing these articles each month for parish magazines and newsletters. It gives us a chance to keep in touch with people across the diocese and to share the things that are in our hearts and minds as the year unfolds. The only drawback is that we have to write these articles well in advance, so that they reach magazine editors and church administrators in good time. The problem is of course that things may change in all sorts of ways between us writing them and you reading them. I am particularly conscious of that this month, as we are in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic. Things are changing very fast and it is hard to know what the next few weeks will bring. That inevitably brings with it a certain degree of uncertainty and some of us, especially those who are isolated and cut off, may be feeling anxious for ourselves or for others. My hope throughout this time of ‘lockdown’ is that although some of us may have felt physically isolated from each other, that we have not felt socially or spiritually isolated. Indeed, I have been truly amazed and encouraged by all the stories I have heard of people caring for each other, phoning each other and going shopping for those who cannot get out to buy the food they need. At this stage none of us knows quite how and when this virus will eventually be brought under control. However, I do hope that when we get to the stage that restrictions can be safely lifted and we begin to go out and shop as we did before, that things will be different. Many of us have had difficulty buying the food we wanted. Some of us have had to rely on others for our daily needs. We have had to learn new ways to pray and keep in touch with others in our churches and communities. We have had to trust, hope, and look out for our neighbours, especially those who are particularly vulnerable. We have been humbled by the courage and dedication of those who work in the NHS and care homes and all who as ‘key workers’ have worked tirelessly to look after and provide for us. Jesus taught us to ‘Love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind’ and ‘to love our neighbours as ourselves’.My hope and prayer is that as we emerge from this pandemic that we and our communities may be a more compassionate, more generous, more grateful. And may we all have discovered what it is to know in a deeper way the peace and the presence of God. May the peace and the joy of the Risen Lord be with you

Pensford Tennis ClubLike almost every sporting venue in the country Pensford Tennis Club is closed due to Covid-19. Please, therefore, keep an eye on our website www.pensfordtennisclub.co.uk for updates and when life returns to normal we plan to organise an Open Day to celebrate the occasion. bOur members are an intrepid lot and their competitive spirit is still very much alive so to relieve the boredom of self-isolation members are volleying at home with a member of their family to see who can keep going the longest - recording of the score on the Tennis Club WhatsApp. Meanwhile stay safe.

School HighlightsPensford Primary SchoolFirst of all, to anyone reading this, everyone at Pensford Primary School hopes that you are staying safe and keeping healthy. Since the schools were closed to the majority of the pupils on the 20th March, Pensford School has become a virtual school where all learning has been put online. I have to say that I am very impressed with the effort and attitude to so many of our pupils and a massive thank you to our parents and carers who have been doing a tremendous job in home schooling their children. There have been many rumours as to when schools are to next open and having received daily emails from the Confederation of Schools Trust, I can tell you that no one is certain as to when schools are to re-open. Stay safe everyone. Sam MillerActing HeadteacherPensford Primary School

01761 490217 The government has now advised that if you have an underlying health condition(s) or if you are aged 70 or older, you should be social distancing for up to 12 weeks. To some people this can seem quite daunting. Not being able to go about your daily routine or undertake the activities you normally do, after a while, could become quite stressful.

We know that during this period it’s really important that you look after your mental and emotional wellbeing as well as your physical health.

rcot.co.uk

Staying well whensocial distancingWe’ve created some top tips to support those who are undertaking social distancing toget through the next few weeks.

Establish a daily routine. Routines provide structure and purpose.

Balance your weekly routine so you have a good mix of work (activities that have tobe done), rest and leisure.

Think about which regular activities that are most important to you. What are the important elements to these? Can you adapt them to carry out in the home? For example, instead of a class, following an online strength and balance routine.

Set daily goals to provide purpose and a sense of achievement. This might include working through that list of the things you keep meaning to do but never get round to?

Identify the triggers that make you feel low and look for ways to reduce or manage them.

Talk with family, friends and neighbours to help them understand how you feel and how they can help. Can they talk you through using apps on your mobile phone, for instance?

Take care of yourself. Eat and drink healthily with plenty of fruit, vegetables andwater to support your immune function and energy levels. For more information seethe BDA website.

Avoid staying still for too long. Exercise and regular movement will maintain fitness and strength. If you are working from home, take breaks and eat away from your “desk.”

Have a good sleep routine. If you are struggling, try avoiding tea and coffee in the late afternoon and evening, take a bath, using blackout curtains, listening to gentle music ordeep breathing exercises.

Keep in touch. Arrange to speak to someone most days on the phone, through social media or over the garden fence. Age UK and Silverline have people to speak to.

I wish to thank all my friends in Chelwood and Pensford for the many tributes to Sydney, along with messages of condolence, cards, flowers and thoughtful gifts. This is a most difficult time for all the family but the expressions of love and affection for Syd have helped us cope. He surely made his mark on a huge number of people and we are glad about that. Here is a verse from one of Syd’s favourite poems, hope you like it:

The Parting GlassOf all the friendship that e’er I sharedI leave to you fond memoryAnd for all the laughter that e’er I gaveI ask you to remember meAnd let me live when e’er you smileOn times we spent together wellThen fill to me the parting glassGoodbye and joy be with you all.Thank you for being there for us.
