STATE SHEEP CONFERENCE SET FOR MAY 27-28 Dr. Dwight Loveday

Do your sheep exhibitors always wonder what will be on the skillathon at Expo?

Do you struggle finding materials to educate your members about care, show-

manship and grooming of their lambs?

Are your youth looking for leadership opportunities?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then sheep conference is

the place to send your youth!

4-H Sheep Conference is a family conference designed for those who want to learn more about the sheep project. The event provides hands on learning expe-riences, leadership opportunities for teens as well as opportunities to meet and make new friends from across the state. Sheep Conference is held at the Hyder-Burks Arena on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville. Friday evening activities are designed for 8-12th grade 4-H and FFA members. The educational focus is on flock record keeping. Youth will explore apps that will assist them in keeping flock records and information 4-Hers use to put in portfolios. Saturday morning is designed for everyone and youth are encour-aged to bring a lamb with them to practice. Youth will have the opportunity to participate in a mock showmanship class so it is desirable to bring a lamb from home. However, there will be a few lambs on hand for those that cannot bring a sheep. Mr. Keith Odom from Bishop, Georgia, will lead youth through showmanship techniques and everyone will have the opportunity to practice showmanship. There will also be workshops on grooming, proper feeding and health manage-ment. Magen Shedden will be conducting a grooming demonstration for those interested in fitting wool for lambs shown in the wool. Also, each participant will have the opportunity to make a rope halter for their project.

The annual meeting of the Tennessee Junior Sheep Producers Association will be held on Saturday afternoon following the completion of the confer-ence. Friday registration begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Hyder Burks Arena. Saturday registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the cost is $10.00. Get Your 4-H'ers Ready for the Workplace!

Dr. Lori Gallimore

Dining Etiquette Training Added as a Bonus In-Service for 2016

Which direction do you pass the bread basket? Why did I get the pepper when I only

requested salt? What do I wear? Do I need a host/hostess gift? What the heck is a

salt cellar? What is considered proper etiquette at a reception? As Extension profes-

sionals, we are all put into sticky, dining situations at one time or another -- be it a

Chamber of Commerce reception or lunch with a potential donor. Mind Your Man-

ners! was originally presented as a 4-H in-service training option and in a face-to-face

format in 2013. With a focus on workforce preparation, Mind Your Manners! has

been brought out of the archives and will be offered later this year in an online for-

mat to help you help prepare your 4-H'ers for their future careers and other life op-

portunities.

The 5.5 hours training will be offered this fall in a three-part series. Each series is 1.5

hours and will be offered via Zoom. Trainings will be held on September 21, October

13 and October 19, 2016. SUPER Registration is required and may be accessed by

clicking on the following link: http://super.tennessee.edu/Event/Home.aspx?ID=9931

Please note: By registering in SUPER, you are registering for all three in-services.

Learn a few, new tricks in this in-service training to help as you work through the

most challenging of dining situations. AND get a few, really cool fee-based program-

ming ideas and resources to teach your 4-H'ers and other audience members these all

-important life skills. Learn from your fellow Extension professionals on how they

have successfully used the program in their respective counties.

If you have any questions about the training, please contact Lori Gallimore at 865-974

-7239 or [email protected].
