HHEEYY KKEEYY CCLLUUBBBBEERRSS!!

My name is Joseph Chung and I am a junior from

Pullman High School. I am the new Lieutenant Governor

of Division 56 for the 2012-2013 term. I do not view Key

Club as a high school service club that is just about

SERVING the community – it is about BEING a

community. As members of a community, I believe that

helping the people around us is more of a given, and

this act should not be limited to only the service

opportunities offered in Key Club. As members of Key

Club, we should be setting this example for others to

follow. My job as Lieutenant Governor is to connect the

clubs in our division with the Pacific Northwest District.

Due to our isolated locations, one of our division’s

largest problems has always been a lack of continuous

communication between clubs. As Lieutenant

Governor, my goals for the upcoming term is to improve

communication by actively speaking with club officers,

regularly visiting each club, and promoting cooperation

between the members of different clubs. I am very

much looking forward to serving you guys this year, so

let’s work together to be the best division we can be!

See you guys soon!

In caring & service,

Joseph Chung

CLUB OFFICERS, KIWANIS ADVISORS, AND FACULTY ADVISORS:

Please e-mail me your e-mail address, phone number, home address, school address,

meeting information (day, time, location), sponsoring Kiwanis club name, and their

meeting information (day, time, location). This information is required for the District

Directory and my Division 56 Contact Sheet. I need this information ASAP!

Division 56 of the Pacific Northwest District

currently consists of Pullman High School,

Moscow High School, and Kamiah High

School. We are part of the Eastside region.

Although we only have 3 clubs, we are one

of the most widespread divisions in the

district.

Our new Divisional Mascot is the Penguin! I

have chosen the penguin because I believe

that, although our clubs are far apart, we all

come together as one division in SERVICE.

Our new Divisional Colors are Blue and

Yellow! Blue represents our pride as members

of Key Club and Yellow represents our shining

efforts in service!

ATTENTION ALL KEY CLUBBERS!

Did you enjoy District Convention 2012? If so, come to Eastside Rally 2012! It will be held

on August 18th at John Rogers High School in Spokane, WA. There are several different

rallies held across our District, serving as “mini-DCONs”. They are a great way to meet

new Key Clubbers from across the Eastside region (Eastern Washington, Northeastern

Oregon, and Northwestern Idaho) and receive training as new officers! There will be

more information in the next few weeks, so stay on the lookout!

Three words: Relay, For, and Life – three simple words used

by most people in everyday language. Yet for so many

people across the nation, these three words are so packed

and weighed down with meaning, memories, and emotions.

Relay for Life is an annual event put on by the American

Cancer Society that commemorates the lives of those who

have battled or are currently battling cancer. It is a touching

event that brings the community closer together by uniting

the participants for a single cause: the fight against cancer.

The Pullman High School Key Club has been an avid

participant in the event for many years. At first, it seemed as

though this year would be no different. However, we quickly

ran into trouble, and it soon appeared as though this year

could be much less successful than previous years. The

student body expressed little interest in the event, an

insignificant amount of money was fundraised, and it

appeared that our school’s participation in the event would

be minimal.

However, two weeks prior to the event, fundraising and

participation took off. A committee consisting of over twenty

dedicated people was created, members started going

door-to-door fundraising, a fundraiser bake sale was

proposed and approved, and much more interest sparked

throughout the entire student body.

The Relay for Life Bake Sale was a huge success, or

“baketastic” as said by senior Key Club member, Mitchell

Tang. It generated over $500 in just one week. In addition,

about $800 was raised just from door-to-door fundraising,

and we received many more online donations. The PHS Key

Club raised about $2,200 for the American Cancer Society,

more than double the original goal.

“From what I saw, I think interest was definitely

higher this year than in previous years. Our

current officers did a great job of promoting

the event, educating students on the

meaning of Relay for Life, and raising funds.

Once people realized what Relay was all

about, they were interested in participating

and fully supported its mission. I was impressed

with the enthusiasm of some of the freshmen

who stayed overnight and hope that they

continue to let their passion for service grow

through the community and Key Club,”

commented Jimmy Yin, the Immediate Past

Lieutenant Governor of Division 56.

This year was an incredible success for the

Pullman High School Key Club and its

members greatly hope that future events will

be just as efficacious, bringing the community

closer together while helping to bring about a

positive change. Our own Jimmy Yin summed

it up perfectly: “Given an idea or mission that

everybody can support, like Relay for Life's

mission of curing cancer and celebrating

those who are battling or have battled

cancer, people will do what's in their power to

help the cause. No matter their previous

differences, supporting a good cause can

and will bring people together.”

For Club Officers:

I am currently planning on holding

Divisional Council Meetings (DCM’s)

limited space in the group calls, I will

speak to separate groups of club

officers according to position

Secretaries, and Treasurers). Please

create an account for both Skype

and ooVoo, it only takes a minute. I

will be announcing exact dates at a
