A message from our Disaster Action Team Chair, Jeff Arter
This week, the DAT completed Home Fire Safety training with the NSA Naples Fire Dept personnel at the Support Site
Fire Station. The members in attendance received an informative and quite thorough briefing on home fire safety that
included cooking and electrical fires along with smoke and fire detectors. The DAT members were able to get some
hands on training using fire extinguishers to simulate putting out a small fire. It was a very constructive and fun time for
the DAT – see pictures on page 3. Our hats off to the NSA Fire Dept for making this happen.
Look forward for the month of May as the DAT will be hosting Shelter on the Support Site (SOSS). This is very similar
to the event held at Capo in Oct 2011, known as Shelter on the Spine. More information to follow.
To volunteer as a DAT member, please contact Jeff at [email protected]
Happy May, fellow Volunteers! What an exciting month we had in April. I got to meet many new people during our annual recognition event and say 'thank you' to all the hard work you do that inspires me every day. Thank you to all the volunteers that supported the Earth Day 2012 event on Support Site. We didn't let the rain scare us! At the Earth Day event, we had the opportunity to share with our community the many ways that the Red Cross helps the environment. Jeff Arter led our DAT in its first onsite training session with the local Support Site Fire Department and learned how they would fit in during a large scale family fire. Jessica Franklin led our Publicity team in spotlighting volunteers at the annual Volunteer Recognition event, Earth Day event, and Fire Department DAT meeting. Great job team! If you are interested in learning more about how you can get involved with many unique and new programs in the ARC, contact us at 626-4788 to learn more!
As summer nears, we are in need of a
Youth Chair to help run our Youth Volunteer program.

Hello Naples Volunteers,
This year’s annual volunteer recognition was a great success and we are happy that
so many came to celebrate our wonderful team of volunteers. I would like to thank all of the agencies for supporting us by taking time out from their busy day to attend
the event. I would also like to give special thanks to LCDR Ragadio and Chaplain Mack for speaking from the bottom of their hearts about their experiences with the
Red Cross. Your words were inspirational and well received. As many of you know, our volunteers are the backbone and support for many of our community agencies
and this is the time these agencies can express their appreciation for all that you do.
Special thanks to Mike Beasley of International Flavours Catering for the fantastic
spread and if you thought his foods was out of this world, his contact information
is: [email protected]; 347-857-4527; 081-546-3869. And thank you to Krista Wilson from Cake Creations for her wonderful cakes. Her
contact information is: [email protected].
Earth Day was a great time with only a few minutes of light rain. Our volunteers provided cool, refreshing drinks to runners and attendees, and everyone had a
wonderful time. Thanks to those who participated in Earth Day!
Summer is almost is here and the weather is getting better, so be careful out there!

Update from our Station Manager: Jacquie Mack
A Message from our Health and Safety Chair, Jason Morris Hello ARC Team, The Health & Safety team has been hard at work providing life-saving training to our community. During the month of April, we taught one CPR/AED class, two Babysitting courses, one instructor-refresh class and a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor course qualifying three new instructors. With that, I would like to welcome Virginie Silva, Thiago Silva and Michael Simon as our latest American Red Cross instructors. They join the ranks of over 200,000 instructors who teach life-saving skills to communities all over the world. The month of May looks to be very exciting. The Health & Safety team will offer two CPR/AED classes and I will be teaming up with our Station Chair, Lewis Heuermann, by going on AFN Radio on Friday, 4 MAY, to talk about the American Red Cross.
