THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON…….. On Earth is a mother.
She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any ca-thedral--a swelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body.. The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative mira-cle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Cre-ator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation.. What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this: To be a mother? -Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty

The 2020 Census is taking place now! This is an important time to be counted because the data collected from the census: determines the state's representation
in Congress for the next decade; influences the way legislative lines
are drawn at the federal and state levels;
informs emergency preparedness and public safety plans;
and guides how federal funding is distributed to communities for local needs.
The allocations we receive are directly tied to population numbers. Without an accurate count, we lose vital aid and ser-vices. When the state’s people are not count-ed, South Carolina communities lose out!
Did you know? In Fiscal Year 2016, South Carolina received nearly $12.7 bil-lion through federal programs that used 2010 census data!
SUMMERVILLE CATHOLIC SCHOOL Summerville Catholic School hosts a silent auc-tion every year to raise much needed funds for the school. A MESSAGE FROM BISHOP GUGLIELMONE
My dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As society moves forward with the reopening of public spaces, we must ensure that the Diocese of Charleston does all that it can to provide for your spiritual needs and welcome you home. Our primary goal is to ap-proach the lifted restrictions with great care, keeping the safety of all our parishioners and our clergy at the forefront of our decision-making.
On Thursday, after conferring with the College of Con-sultors (the priests who advise me on many important matters), I decided to resume the sacraments with in-person daily Mass beginning on Monday, May 11. Our first Vigil/Sunday Masses will be held the weekend of May 16.
We want to have the freedom to participate in Mass together in a peaceful manner, but also in good health, so your pastor/administrator will spend the next several days developing a plan on how your parish will operate in the current climate and under the restrictions we have set forth. These restrictions have been developed based on recommendations from the Centers for Dis-ease Control and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, plus mandates from state government and recommendations from those dioceses that have already resumed Masses. Your pas-tor/administrator will communicate the specifics of his plan for your parish no later than May 10.
Although we will do all we can to provide a safe environ-ment, the risk of contracting COVID-19 will still exist. Therefore, I am still granting dispensation to those who are uncomfortable attending weekend Mass and those who are high risk until further notice.
We are all hungry to receive the sacraments once again. This time away from the Eucharist has been painful. And, for so many, that struggle has been compounded by the loss of income and freedom for our families. These new guidelines may be challenging, so I ask every-one to do their very best to adjust to the new normal together as one family in faith.
May God continue to bless each of you in this season of the Resurrected Lord.

BACKGROUND ON THE GOSPEL READING
The readings for the last few Sundays have been about the Resurrection, but today’s Gospel takes us back in time to an event in Jesus’ life before his Passion. Jesus tells his disciples that he is going to prepare a place for them in his Father’s house. He promises that where he is going, his disciples will be able to follow. Thomas, who will later doubt the disciples’ re-ports that they have seen the Risen Lord, contradicts Jesus by saying that the disciples don’t know where Jesus is going or how to get there. Jesus explains that he himself is the way, the truth, and the life. In knowing and loving Jesus, the disciples now love God the Father.
Philip then makes a request that challenges Jesus’ words. Philip wants Jesus to show the Fa-ther to the disciples. Recall that Jesus has just told his disciples, “If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” As a good teacher, Jesus responds to Philip by repeating and elaborating on what he has just told the disciples: they have seen and known Jesus, so they have seen and known the Father. Then Jesus offers another reassurance about his departure: because of faith in God and in Jesus, the disciples will do the work that Jesus has done and more.
The connection between Jesus and his Father, between Jesus’ work and the work of the Fa-ther, is made clear in today’s Gospel. Jesus is in the Father, and God the Father is in Jesus. As God spoke his name to Moses, “I am,” so too Jesus speaks his name to his disciples: “I am the way and the truth and the life.”
The revelation of the Trinity is completed in the passage that follows today’s reading, and it is the Gospel for next Sunday. Because Jesus goes away, the Father will send in Jesus’ name the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who will continue the work of the Father and of Jesus.
