Many of our existing customers are totally reliant on Matrix Precision completing projects and part piece requirements for them. Considerable investment has been made to equip our modern and well maintained workshop. This has enhanced our ability to offer our customers the highest standards in machined components.

Machining Services

At Matrix Precision Engineering we have invested in the latest 5-axis machining technology, having purchased a brand new Hurco VMX42SRTi 5-axis / Swivel Head machining centre.

5-Axis Machining Services

Working from within our dedicated CAD office we have experienced engineers who can offer a range of services. All engineers are using the latest Autodesk 3D Inventor or Autocad software suites.

Design & CAD Services

Rapid prototyping helps companies turn great ideas into successful products faster than ever before. 3D printing your prototypes directly from CAD data enables fast, frequent revisions based on real-world testing and feedback.

Supply Chain Management

Matrix Precision have the In-House capability to complete the part marking using our Laser marking machine. Completing the part marking using a laser marking system adds the final professional looking touch to quality machined products.

Project Management

All machined components are inspected prior to being released for delivery. This is carried out within our purpose built Inspection area. Using CMM machines or a vast range of calibrated measuring equipment we have the In-house ability to inspect machined components.

Machining Services

Considerable investment has been made to equip our modern and well maintained workshop.

Ranging from 1 off’s and prototype work through to medium to large size batch orders our Milling & Turning services are in the main carried out using our new range of CNC machines (though many jobs warrant the use of manual machines which we also have in-house).

These CNC machines are either programmed directly at the machines or using CAD/CAM software where we can program off-line if this level of service is requested. We can accept the majority of electronic file formats, although it is still common to receive printed customer dimensional drawings. We are able to work with whatever the customer sends, with in-house capabilities to copy samples if no drawings are available.

Matrix Precision is experienced in terms of machining a diverse range of materials. One of the direct benefits of being a sub-con engineering company is that we can source and machine a large selection of differing types of material grades.

Typically we are machining the following types of materials:

Stainless Steels (many different grades) Engineering steels Tools steels Aluminium Plastics Brass, Copper, Phos. Bronze Inconel Titanium Tantalum

A special mention should be made regarding our capability to supply machined parts from Tantalum material. We can supply this material and not only can we offer machined components but also supply Tantalum fabrications and spun parts from this difficult to manage material grade.

Offering machined parts to customer drawings is obviously a service we can offer. Though many customers take advantage of many other services that relate to being capable to produce machined components.

Typically this allows Matrix Precision to supply and manufacture the following:

Bespoke / Special Purpose Machinery Specialised Jigs & Fixtures R & D projects Turnkey mechanical solutions

Manufacturing to customer design or we offer the service of design via In-house design team. If the design is carried out using the Matrix Precision design team then 3D models and dimensional drawings are produced and approved by the customer prior to the manufacturing starting. This means we can be viewed as a single source option for all design & manufacturing requirements for mechanical engineering requirements.

A special mention should be made regarding our capability to supply machined parts from Tantalum material. We can supply this material and not only can we offer machined components but also supply Tantalum fabrications and spun parts from this difficult to manage material grade.

Machining of castings Rapid Response Service for urgent parts Breakdown & Repair Service (24 hour turn round where possible) Part Marking & Engraving

There is often a requirement to repair or remake worn or broken parts. This means we undertake reverse engineering to enable the support of this line of service. Carrying out dimensional inspection to determine all required information, this is then all recorded and passed onto our In-house cad office. Using the measured and recorded information 3D models and in turn dimensional drawings for manufacture are created to enable the machining of new parts. All new drawings generated are first sent and approved by the customer to gain customer approval prior to any machining processes taking place.

Our Rapid Response Service is offered whenever possible and each request is assessed on its own merit. This service does result in paying a premium rate though this is often insignificant compared to not having parts when required or a project going past its deadline date.

Our Breakdown & Repair service is offered whenever possible, we understand the pressures of not having your business running. We try to repair if not replace the worn or broken part in the quickest possible time to get your business back up and operational. This service does mean paying a premium rate, though this is minimal compared to the cost of not being operational or having an unplanned down time period.

5-Axis Machining Services

Our 5-axis machine can be utilized in various ways to enable us to supply complex components that need simultaneous 5 axis machining.

At Matrix Precision Engineering we have invested in the latest 5-axis machining technology.

Having purchased a brand new Hurco VMX42SRTi 5-axis / Swivel Head machining centre. This has resulted in Matrix Precision expanding our in-house machining capabilities.

Our 5-axis machine can be utilized in various ways to enable us to supply complex components that need simultaneous 5 axis machining. The advanced control system of the machine allows for direct cad/cam programming along with the ability for DXF file input.

Also components that are so often machined on 3 or 4 axis machining centres can now be programmed and completed by carrying out 5 sided machining (3 + 2 milling).

5 sided machining completed on our 5 axis machining centre offers the following benefits

Reduced set-up times / costs Greater options of machining strategies & work holding Increased accuracy

Typically machined parts that may have required work on multiple sides of the shape would have to be done in stages and mean multiple loading and setting. 5 sided machining means all machining on multiple sides can be completed within a single set-up. This greatly reduces loading & machining times on customer requirements.

Other notable options we have included in our investment of 5-axis machining are as follows

Having the ability to input CAD DXF files into the Hurco machine control system allows for quick & easy loading of CAD data and geometry of parts. This reduces programming times and potential manual input errors.

The swivel head / rotary table 5-axis machines can handle heavier parts. Since the swivel head tilts the tool, you don’t need to worry about tool interference with the machine’s spindle head on the SR machines.

These can be viewed from within our CAD office or we have the ability to show these models on a large HD TV screen within our conference room. Laser PartMarking

Matrix Precision has its own in-house laser marking machines that mark with a beam of the highest accuracy.

Matrix Precision have the In-House capability to complete the part marking using our Laser marking machine. Completing the part marking using a laser marking system adds the final professional looking touch to quality machined products.

Our lasers can be used for a wide variety of applications including:

Direct marking of metals, plastics & glass Identification codes, QR codes, bar codes Serial numbers & labelling Decoration with logos & photographs Coating removal, cutting and ablation Deep engraving to a very high quality

For any parts that are too large to be laser part marked we then offer the completion of this aspect via direct programming and engraving on the cnc milling machines within the workshop.

The laser marking process is typically completed to the customer drawings on machined parts we have manufactured. However we also offer a stand-alone service of just laser part marking free issued parts .

InspectionServices

We don’t try to inspect quality into a job, we build it in. Quality is a company-wide process.

All machined components are inspected prior to being released for delivery. This is carried out within our purpose built Inspection area.

Using CMM machines or a vast range of calibrated measuring equipment we have the In-house ability to inspect machined components as per the drawings issued for supply.

Every customer has a varying level of requirements in regards to inspection and Quality control. We can adapt to each customer’s needs and complete our standard inspection to check all machined parts are manufactured as per drawing. We also offer the service of generating full inspection reports capturing all drawing dimensions and any other necessary information if the Industry sector requires an in-depth inspection report.

Matrix Precision have out sourced the responsibility of calibration of all Inspection and workshop measuring equipment to a Metrology company who can calibrate all of our equipment to UKAS accredited standards. In turn every single piece of measuring equipment used within Matrix Precision has its unique serial number and corresponding Calibration certificate.

In terms of quality assurance this means we have an added level of confidence that all inspection and measurement equipment used within the business has been tested to the highest standards.

QualityAssurance

We don’t try to inspect quality into a job, we build it in. Quality is a company-wide process.

Matrix Precision are an ISO 9001: 2008 accredited company. Our attitude to quality assurance means we are continually reviewing our internal processes to ensure we are working to the highest standards

The nuclear industry is one of the main sectors we work within and documentation & traceability records are kept and maintained to the high level this industry sector requires. (Life time quality records). We also have staff that hold DV clearance badges (Green 3AP level). This enables Matrix Precision to work within restricted areas and handle sensitive requirements and certain classified documentation.

Working to stringent procedures and processes all work is inspected as per the customers specification. We have a range of calibrated inspection equipment and have invested in a new CMM to carry out extensive inspection of machined components. Inspection reports can be generated if this level of documentation is required .

In aid of our continuous improvement plans an investment was made to implement a specialised Software solution to control most of the business processes and procedures.

Tricorn Systems manufacturing software was the chosen package and this has now given Matrix Precision the ability to implement and manage the following.

Production control Quality management systems Shop floor data capture (SFDC) Scheduling/ Job Planning

Having the ability and processes in place to manage all these important aspects has raised the level of quality control and services we offer our customers.
