Our term has been a busy, but terrific term. Our learning and engagement has been steady and consolidating. We have also celebrated events such as: Community & School NAIDOC Days; our School Athletics Sports; we’ve been represented in the Murray Darling Primary School Sports; most of our Year 3 & 5 students participated in the NAPLAN online trial; and most of our Year 6 participated in the combined Sunraysia Schools Canberra Excursion, returning just last Friday. I wish to thank everyone for their on-going and wonderful support. It has made a great difference to our students, staff and school. Yarning with your child or children, particularly in emphasising our School Key Values continues to strengthen everything we do and represent. Many thanks! Key Value this week: Being Proud—respecting Everyone and Everything!. In classroom Yarn Ups staff will be discussing the importance of this Value and looking for students demonstrating this Key Value in work and play. Thank you for the support and Yarns you have at home in helping our students understand the importance and real difference this Key Values makes to us all. School Administrative Staff Acknowledgement. Last week schools throughout NSW, acknowledged the dedication and hard work of our Administrative and Support Staff. Here at Dareton Public we are blessed with a team of Admin and Support Staff that contribute in a huge way to the underlying success of the quiet running of our school. From phone calls, lunch orders, newsletters, notices, first aid, and lots and lots more, and to supporting our students (and staff) in classrooms across the school, I acknowledge the enormous effort that each and every one makes. A big thank you to: (in our office) Mrs Gee; Mrs Bracken; Mrs Channing; (in classrooms) Lisa; Wendy; Jo (Mrs B2); Mrs McGlynn; (AEOs) Aunties Ros and Naomi; our GA Mr Wall and to our Chaplain Josh and School Psychologist, Ms Jewell, a heartfelt thanks as your support makes a difference to each and every child in our school. Dareton PS Showcase. Save the date—Wednesday 18th October. DPS will be celebrating and Showcasing our school in week 2 next term. Classes will perform an item, there will be Indigenous Dancing, a whole school ‘Just Dance’ activity, Student vs Adult Basketball match and a Community Pizza lunch. We hope to also have a special visit from Allan Hall (Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator, Dubbo Indigenous Resource Centre) and his team visiting to help our school plan and set goals for the next three years. We are looking for your ideas, help and contributions and we will be surveying families throughout this week to help us plan our Strategic Directions for the next three years. Included in this week’s Newsletter is some photos from over this term. Once again, many thanks for your support. This week in Kangas we will be having a special visit from

‘Pete the Cat’. Pete will

having adventures around the school

and on Friday we will create a class book.

Our’ In the World of the Story’ this week is “Room on the Broom” by Julia Donaldson.

The children have already enjoyed several of Julia Donaldson ‘s book this year and she is definitely one of Kangas favourite authors.

This week the students in Kangas will be

continuing to work on addition and subtraction activities. The students have enjoyed lots of hands-on tasks and will

continue to use concrete materials and use informal and formal methods to record their

number sentences.

Pete loves to do subtraction problems!

Have a lovely week from Mrs Shaddock and Mrs B.

Hedley helped with the hot air

balloon demonstration. Do you know

why hot air bal-loons float?

Every EMU who writes an

explanation will receive a prize.

Answer:

Shylah enjoyed watching the

Questacon science show with her little

brothers.

We are playing ‘Property’, we are using the most effi-

cient strategy to find our

answer.

WELCOME Georgia to our class. We are so

glad to know you.

Ciera is showing Ms. Robson how she got her

answer.

Have a fabulous week

from the EMUS team.

3 / 4 Perch Welcome to week 9. Congratulations are in order this week for our achievement awards recipients. Our 2 achievement awards go to two very eager and keen readers. Zephaniah and Zyeria both worked inde-pendently to read and answer tasks that were given to them. It goes to show that when we try, (even if we get the answers wrong sometimes) we are still way ahead because we haven’t given up! Having a go is the most important thing we can do. The 3 ‘p’s’ of improving are…practice, practice and practice !!

Our student of the week is a similar story. Domanic was worried about not being able to remember his spelling words for the week. He practiced them and ‘surprised’ himself by getting them right! This is a huge achievement when we can see growth both academically and in

confidence. Well done Domanic! During last week when some of the Year 6 students were in Canberra, we had some of the Year 5 students in our room. I would like to say a big thank you to the three students; Anthony, Lashara and Natalie and say what a pleasure it was to have them join us. Well done and thank you for your great choices with your excellent behaviour and showing wonderful ‘future’ leadership skills. During class time this week, we are looking at information texts and time during mathematics. We are also still looking for milk bottle lids from home. If you do happen to have any, please keep us in mind for our craft activity that I have organised for mid next term. The way we are going that will be here in no time at all! Once again we all wish you a happy and safe week ahead, Janet, Lisa and 3 / 4 Perch.

GOANNAS

Greetings families and friends ! We hope everyone had a great week last week while the Year 6’s and I were in Canberra. I heard many wonderful things from Mr Twaddle about the students we left behind, and I really cannot express how “Proud” I am of the group I took away. Everywhere we went I received compliments about their good behaviour and lovely manners - I would

have to say we were the best school there (but I am a bit biased). We had some wonderful adventures, saw amazing things and celebrated many firsts - riding an elevator,

riding an escalator, riding a train and visiting the snow, just to name a few. A couple of reminders of important upcoming dates -

Wednesday 18th October is our Dareton Showcase and Wednesday 29th November is our Year 6 Farewell Dinner.

More details will follow as the dates get closer.

Have a great week, Fiona Turner and the Goannas team.

PS. We hope you like the photos !
