Key AdvantagesBy focussing your instruction on one group at a time, rather than the whole class, you can give more attention to individual students.

By setting time on the Maths-Whizz Tutor as one station, you can be confident that your students are working toward their maths goals, and also moving toward their recommended Maths-Whizz Tutor usage of 45–60 minutes per week.

Remember: Children who use Maths-Whizz for 45–60 minutes in total each week will, on average, increase their ability by 18 months in the first 12 months of use. That’s a six-month acceleration in student progress.

Suggested Stations Pick and choose from the list below, or create your own station.Remember: The Maths-Whizz Teachers’ Resource has everything you need for options marked with (*TR).• Laptops or tablets for work with the Maths-Whizz Tutor• Teacher-led learning (*TR)• Collaborative/independent worksheets (*TR)• Collaborative investigation work or extended problems for

deeper learning (*TR)• Independent Learning Objective (*TR)• Extra support station run by a TA

Implementation Steps1. Check the Maths-Whizz Tutoring Plus Reports to quickly work out

the needs of each student, and plan groups accordingly.2. At the start of the lesson, split students into their groups, and assign

each group to a station.3. After a set period of time (e.g. 10-15 minutes), move each group

onto the next station.4. Repeat until each group has been to every station.5. After the lesson, check the Maths-Whizz Tutoring Plus Reports to

instantly see student progress and plan your next maths lessons.

Station RotationIn ‘station rotation’, students are split into groups, and the groups rotate between different learning stations at fixed times set by you.

Resources• Enough laptops or tablets for

one group• You can use an interactive

whiteboard or a whiteboard with a projector at one of the stations

Staff• Classroom teacher (that’s you)• Your school’s Maths-Whizz

Ambassador can help you by monitoring data and offering ideas and suggestions

• A TA (if available) can help by running an extra station, or by working with one group

Key Points for LessonsYou can set specific topics for the Maths-Whizz Tutor at the laptop/tablet station, by using Topic Focus or Topic Bank.

The Maths-Whizz Tutoring Plus Reports are extremely useful for your maths planning, giving you simple breakdowns of students’ progress in individual maths topics.

Key Points for HomeworkThe Maths-Whizz Tutoring Plus Reports are also great for homework planning, allowing you to quickly match the right worksheet to the right student.

You can set time on the Maths-Whizz Tutor as homework, and easily track whether your students have logged in and done their homework (see pages 16–19 for details). We recommend that you do so, since your students are unlikely to achieve their 45–60 minutes of weekly Maths-Whizz Tutor usage purely in school, meaning homework is important for their progress.

Example Timetable for a School’s ICT Suite (see right)

Key Points for Lab RotationIt’s important that classroom teaching complements time in the ICT suite. Use the Maths-Whizz Tutoring Plus Reports to conveniently check your class’s work and progress, and plan your daily maths lessons.

For one-to-one interventions, you can bring up specific exercises a student has struggled with, and work through them together. You can do this by accessing the Student Report, going into the ‘History’ tab and pressing ‘View’ to play the lesson in question (see page 20).

Key Points for HomeworkThe Maths-Whizz Tutoring Plus Reports are great for homework planning, allowing you to quickly match the right worksheet to the right student.

You can set Maths-Whizz Tutor usage as homework, and easily track whether your students have logged in and done their homework (see pages 16–19 for details). We recommend that you do so, since your students may not achieve their 45–60 minutes of weekly Maths-Whizz Tutor usage purely in school, meaning homework is important for their progress.

School Clubs: Suggested Activities• Once students have logged in to the Maths-Whizz Tutor, focus each

of them on Tutor, Topic Bank or Replay, depending on your goals.• Set up an extra table in the ICT suite to give students

one-to-one support. • Reinforce students’ learning by having them work in Replay mode to

improve their previous exercise scores.• Motivate students by having them compete against other Maths-

Whizz users in Challenge Mode.

‘It plugs a lot of the gaps for me… so they are ready for the lessons.’Lisa Pridding Teacher, Hindsford C.E. Primary School

‘I have got much higher marks in tests - just thanks [for Maths-Whizz]!’ Ashleigh, age 10

‘It’s really beneficial for them, because they can revisit concepts that we’ve done in the classroom and have a different approach.’Lenia Evans Teacher, Rosemead Preparatory School

Maths-Whizz Tutoring Plus provides reports for every single student. In their Student Report, just click on their ‘History’ tab to see every learning objective the student has studied with the Maths-Whizz Tutor. For each objective, you will also see the time taken by the student, the mark awarded and how much help the student needed.

Use this information to make effective interventions with individual students. By clicking on the ‘View’ button (far right in the diagram above) for a lesson that the student has struggled with, you can access a practice version of the lesson. You and the student can then work through the exercise together, without it affecting their results in the Maths-Whizz Tutor.
