The Life Cycle of a Flower (Part One)

When explaining how plants grow,There are things you need to know.

In the beginning all you need, Is a simple, unsuspecting seed.

Giving the plant the ideal condition, To germinate must be your mission.

Water, light and soil to sow, Will help your little plant to grow.

Within no time, you will see a shoot, Followed by a searching root.

The root will anchor to the ground,The sprout reaches and light is found.

The plant grows taller; grows a stem, Growing thicker and thicker, again and again.

Inquiry Project

Shadow PuppetsThe time has come to finally turn your own myth into a shadow puppet performance! Using the storyboard and the myth you have created, you have the next 2 weeks to create:• A shadow puppet theatre• Shadow puppets (characters or any items for your story)

Watch this video of a professional shadow puppeteer and see how she has created her puppets and performed her story: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/z87jmp3You also might want to remember when we had a shadow puppeteer visit our school to show her amazing shadow puppet show and her top tips.

This is a fantastic project that will need you to use your creativity, problem solving skills, any materials and equipment you have at home (can find or buy) and maybe a bit of help from an adult. These will be 100% homemade and something you will enjoy creating and showing off to others.

Once you have finished, impress your family with a special performance. Act out your myth with funny voices and cool sound effects. You might want to record it too!

Search ‘Shadow puppet theatre’ on Google or YouTube for more ideas or tutorials. Use your imagination!

Creating your shadow puppet theatreYou need to create a theatre for your shadow puppet performance. This will be a great background for your characters and the stage of your performance. The theatre can be as big as you want. Be creative – don’t be afraid to try unique materials to make it an awesome Ancient Greek background! Importantly, make sure that you have a material that the light can shine onto and you can see the puppets’ shadows on for the performance. Practise on a range of materials before you put it all together to find the best for you.

You will need:• 1x cardboard box (cereal box, delivery box etc)• 1x sheet of tissue paper (or another material you can see the puppets’ shadows

on e.g. thin, white paper, old shirt etc)• Scissors• Tape• A black felt tip pen (and other things to decorate e.g. paint)• A strong light source (torch, lamp or mobile phone light etc)

Creating your shadow puppetsYou need to create shadows puppets for your performance. These need to be the characters of your own myth, so you may need to do more than one. They will need to be large and thick so that the shadow will be refined and look good quality. You may want to create moving parts (legs, arms or a mouth), which will be more challenging, so you might have to try different techniques with adult help (e.g. split pins).

You will need:• Black card (or any other card that is thick enough to create a shadow)• Scissors• Sticks (or any other strong, thin material that will be used to hold up

the puppets e.g. pencils/pens, clean sticks from outside, straws etc)• Light-coloured pencils (or anything else • Tape
