Hello Year 3,

We hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s theme, ‘Under The Sea’. It has been lovely to see so much artwork to do with the ocean and your own models of aquatic habitats!

This is our last week of work as we wrap up for the summer holidays. What a strange term it has been! Well done for working so hard at home and thank you for all the super things you have sent us over these months. We have really enjoyed keeping in touch. After this week, it will be time for a nice break to recharge and get yourselves ready for Year 4. We know you will be brilliant and your new teachers are looking forward to teaching you!

To end our term of home learning, our final whole school theme is Scientists and Inventors. There are so many interesting people and inventions to learn about—perhaps you could even invent something yourself! Browse through the activities on our website and do send us pictures of anything you make.

Another inspiring poem to take you into the fascinating world of books.

Adventures with Books By Velda Blumhagen

Books are ships that sail the seas To lands of snow or jungle trees. And I’m the captain bold and free Who will decide which place we’ll see. Come, let us sail the magic ship.

Books are trains in many lands, Crossing hills or desert sands. And I’m the engineer who guides The train on its exciting rides. Come, let us ride the magic train.

Books are zoos that make a home For birds and beasts not free to roam. And I’m the keeper of the zoo, I choose the things to show to you. Come, let us visit in a zoo.

Books are gardens, fairies, elves, Cowboys, and people like ourselves. And I can find with one good look Just what I want inside a book. Come, let us read! For reading’s fun!

There is not a new ‘Talk for Writing’ unit this week. This week’s suggested lessons are below:

Lesson 1: Pobble365 (Monday 13th July ‘Watchwood Forest’ or if you want to look at previous dates, you could follow this plan but with your chosen picture.) 1. Question Time - have a good look at the picture and answer the questions. 2. Perfect Picture - Draw one of the characters that live in Watchwood Forest and think of powerful adjectives to describe your character as well as the forest. Lesson 2: Pobble365 ‘Watchwood Forest’ 1. Sentence Challenge - write sentences using apostrophes of omission and of possession. 2. Sick Sentences - improve these sentences and collect lots of ideas to use in your story. Lesson 3: Pobble365 ‘Watchwood Forest’ Story Starter. Use your wonderful imagination to continue Rose’s story. Lesson 4: Choose an English activity from the weekly theme. Lesson 5: Choose an English activity from the weekly theme.
