Mathematics Trail – P1 & P2
Math is Fun!! That is the slogan the school has been promoting to the pupils. Math is everywhere and
our aim is for our pupils to love Math.
In Term 3 and 4, the P1 and P2 pupils went on a ‘Math Trail’. The trail enabled the pupils to have a
hands-on experience of “shopping” with play money. Different stations were set up for pupils to go
‘shopping’. They were given a certain amount of play money from the activity they played earlier and with
the ‘money’ they had, they had to make wise choices of what to purchase. The pupils had fun choosing
the items that they wanted to buy and had to make sure that the amount did not exceed the amount they
had received. The activity ended with pupils having to reflect on the need to save what they earned and
why donating to society is a good habit to practice.

P3 VIA – Buddy Cleaning Workshop
In order to educate our students on the importance of keeping the school environment clean, the school
collaborated with National Environment Agency (NEA) to organize a Buddy Cleaning Workshop for all
Primary 3 pupils. This workshop gave pupils the awareness and skills for cleaning activity that they were
engaged in at a later date for their VIA activity.
At the end of the workshop, students learnt the importance of keeping their environment clean. They
also learnt that everyone needs to play a part to keep the environment clean.
During the VIA session, students were involved in cleaning activities within the school. They applied the
skills that they acquired during the workshop. The enthusiasm from students was heart-warming and the
staff were of great support.

P4 to P6 VIA Engagement
After nine months of planning and execution, the P4- P6 levels’ VIA is drawing to a close. The P4 level
did gardening at our school’s very own rooftop garden. This year, the P4 VIA tied in with SGsecure,
teaching pupils the importance of staying united and bringing the community together. The pupils from
different classes planted different crops representing the different races and the classes took turns
weeding and harvesting the crops. The whole P4 level worked together as one big family, caring for
and taking care of the crops. The crops were then sold at the Parents’ Waiting Area and the collected
funds were donated to help the needy pupils in our school.
The P5 pupils did an outreach to our neighborhood in collaboration with NEA. The classes took part in
environmental issues like dengue prevention, recycling and anti- littering. They went around to create
awareness within the neighborhood. Keep a look out for anti-littering posters done by our P5 pupils
displayed at our local community centre!
The P6 pupils embarked on a self-driven project initiated by the classes themselves, targeting to
engage the school community on different issues such as food wastage. They presented to their school
mates and teachers during recess time on 8 November.

Primary Five and Six Social Studies Field-based Learning
In order to extend and enrich the Social Studies educational experience in Telok Kurau Primary School,
the Primary Five and Six pupils were engaged in a field-based learning experience in Semester Two.
The Primary Five pupils visited the Asian Civilisation Museum. Besides helping to make what had been
learnt in school real and concrete, the visit also allowed them to have a better understanding of the
ancient civilisations, namely those in China and India. They learned about how the creativity of the people
of ancient civilisations, is reflected in our world today. The pupils also discovered how the legacies of
ancient China and India still influence our lives today.
Likewise, the Primary Six pupils are also engaged in experiential learning. They had an informative and
immersive experience at the Heritage Trail @ Katong. Pupils asserted that the experience had broadened
their perspectives while contributing to their total development. After completing the heritage trail, the
pupils were better able to appreciate the diverse way of life of the people in Southeast Asia while
respecting the heritage of Southeast Asia and the diversity in how festivals are celebrated.

Malay Language Ambassadors (Rakan Bahasa)
The Malay Language Council, Singapore (MLCS), is keen to continuously strengthen its engagement
with schools and provide opportunities for students to hone their Malay language skills, deepen
appreciation of the Malay culture and develop leadership skills. Each year, MLCS organises ‘Bulan
Bahasa’ which aims to encourage the community to speak, be proficient in the Malay Language and instil
pride and passion in the Malay culture through various programmes and activities.
Two of our pupils, Muhammad Akmal (P4) dan Nafis Lutfi (P5)
were appointed as Rakan Bahasa (Malay Language
Ambassadors) of Telok Kurau Primary School this year. By
being language ambassadors, they will actively spread the love
of the language to their friends and families.
In their journey as a Rakan Bahasa, they were given training on public speaking and presenting with
confidence and also training on the use of NewsMaker application which was presented by Mr Benson
Loo during the Appointment Ceremony. As greeters, they were assigned a location within MHC and
shared with visitors the activities and programmes for the day. They were also tasked to issue
Bulan Bahasa notebooks and Calendar of Events to the visitors. It was an enriching experience and a
great exposure for the pupils.

Tamil Culture Carnival for P3 and P4
The Tamil pupils from P3 and P4 participated in Tamil Culture Carnival on 4 November. This event was
aimed to increase the student’s awareness of Indian Culture and appreciate it. The programme also
helped to promote effective teamwork and social skills among the pupils. The pupils had a fun time
learning to play the traditional board game known as “Thayam”. In Indian culture, lamps are very
symbolic and generally used in many festive occasions. The pupils had an opportunity to learn more
about the significance of lighting lamps and also enjoyed painting their own oil lamps creatively.
Another importance of Indian culture is hanging ‘thoranam’ during celebrations. This is weaved from
coconut leaves which is hung at the entrance to give a warm welcome to the guests.

P5 Career Awareness Fair
The annual Career Talk was held on 19 September for our
Primary 5 pupils with the objectives of creating career
awareness and to inculcate in pupils an appreciation for the
value of all occupations and how they contribute to the well-
functioning of society. We hope to enhance pupils’ self-
confidence through discovering their interests, strengths,
skills and values to make informed decisions at each key
education stage for successful transition from school to
further education or work. This will hence manage their
career pathways and lifelong learning throughout their
lives.
This year, we have invited people from selected industries
to share about their careers. The sharing is aligned to the
school’s core values. We were fortunate to have invited
SSgt Alif Mateen from Bedok Police Station, Mr Alfred, a
professional lawyer, Ms Jewel Stolarchuk, an

Children’s Day – Stars of the Future!
Children’s Day took place on 5 October
this year. Children’s Day 2017 at TKPS
was based on the theme of ‘Stars of The
Future!’ It was aimed to provide pupils
with an opportunity to express their future
aspirations and to believe in themselves-
that there is a star in them based on their
talents and abilities. Apart from a Carnival
Recess and an All-Star Teachers’
Concert, the highlight of the day was the
TKPS Stars of The Future Class Bonding
Activity time. This session was a platform
for pupils to work in groups on their future
aspirations and to show appreciation
towards their peers whereby every child
went home with a mini Star Award and every group won the
Class superlative award! During the Recess Carnival there
were booths set up for popcorn and candy floss and other
carnival games such as ‘Clown ball dart’, ‘Tic tac toe’ and
‘Stand a bottle’. Pupils were given coupons to patronise
these booths. In addition, there was also a photo booth for
them to capture memories with teachers and friends! The
pupils were entertained by an All-Star teachers’ concert
featuring song and dance items including special
appearances of teachers dressed in school uniforms! The
concert was based on a story of 2 pupils on their exciting

Cyber Wellness
Parents, it is very important to know about cyberthreats so that you could remind your child to be careful
on the internet and not be victimised by cyber bullies. The following tips can help parents to help their
children to stay safe online.
Cyber threats are malicious attempts to damage or disrupt a computer network or system. Examples of
cyberthreats include malware, phishing, hacking and spamming. One of the dangers of cyberthreats is a
malicious software programme known as Malware which is installed without your knowledge or
permission. Irrelevant or unsolicited messages will be sent over the internet designed to advertise and/or
make money for sender. It can also be used to collect personal information or to spread viruses and
other malware (e.g. chain mails, dream job spam, pop-up advertisements).
Below is more information and tips on how to manage cyber threats in the online world.
