Our students develop the skills to pay the bills. This program isdesigned to prepare air conditioning and refrigeration mechanicsand apprentices for entry-level employment in a wide range of construction, maintenance, and service positions in business andindustry. The program prepares students to install, service, and repairrefrigeration and air conditioning systems. The Automotive Collision Repair program prepares students with the techni-cal and interpersonal skills required for entry-level employment in the auto-motive collision repair field. The Kansas Automotive Collision CoreCurriculum that is based on the four NATEF core areas of certification will bedelivered using the I-CAR Curriculum, the industry standard. Upon comple-tion of the program, students will be able to apply for up to 10 I-CAR points,a standard that is recognized by automotive collision repair shops in theregion.

This two-year, four-semester program prepares students for an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Automotive Technology. The program provides the necessary training to diagnose, test, and repair modern cars and light trucks. Graduates are ready for positions as entry-level automotive technicians, service writers, and with experience, service managers and automotive repair businessowners. The Automotive Technology program at MATC is an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) National Automotive TechniciansEducation Foundation (NATEF) certified program. Graduates of theprogram will also be certified by the Mobile Air Conditioning Society(MACS) in refrigerant recovery/recycling.

The Building Trades program offers training in residential andcommercial building needed in the workforce today. This training includes classes in safety, blueprint reading, tools andmaterials, framing, interior and exterior finishing, roofing, cabinets, and concrete work. Application and practice of skills is accomplished through the construction of a home within thelocal area.

The Electric Power and Distribution program enhances students’ knowledge andtechnical skills required to succeed in the electrical distribution industry.Graduates of the Electric Power and Distribution program will be able to success-fully install, maintain, and operate electrical systems to supply electrical energyto residential, commercial, and industrial customers and to join gas and electricalunderground generation facilities. The EPD program provides the training needed to construct, operate, and maintain power line equipment. This programis one of only a handful in the United States that has open admission to the public. Applicants will typically begin technical courses 1-2 years after they apply.

This program prepares students for work in a wide varietyof positions, including office manager, accounting assistant, database adminis-trator, medical records clerk, or administrative assistant, to name a few.

The purpose of the Business Administration program is to provide students with course options for their chosenbusiness career pathway. Students completing a certificate in one of these three areas will enter the workforce ready to meet the needs of theworkplace. The AAS degree option will provide additional business skills to moveinto management positions and/or pursue a bachelor’s degree at a university.

The Computer-Aided Drafting Technology program prepares students with theskills required to meet industry standards across the United States. Workingwith engineers, architects or machinists, drafters help develop CAD plans anddrawings for industry. Students will demonstrate competence via a technicalportfolio and credentials that will prepare them for success in entry-level inter-mediate and senior positions. The program provides instruction in engineeringgraphics, architectural design, manufacturing drawing and processes. Studentsmay complete a Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science Degree.

This program covers concepts and skills required to design, install,operate, manage, and secure servers, Local Area Networks (LANs),Wide Area Networks (WANs), and their connections to the Internet.

Information and Network Technology is concerned with the design, implementation, and configuration of network servers, computer networks, andnetwork infrastructure and their integration into a comprehensive computingsystem. Both hardware and software aspects are covered. Specific topics includecomputer communication protocols, computer network analysis, reliability, security, fault tolerance, operating systems, computer and network hardware, and asset management. Successful Network Technicians must be adaptable, self-learners with good spatial, logical, and organizational skills. Strong mathskills are not required but do generally indicate the individual’s problem-solvingability.

Dental Hygienists are educated and licensed oral health profes-sionals. Their primary focus is to prevent and treat patients’ oralhealth and assist them with their whole body health. As a gradu-ate of an accredited dental hygiene program, graduates may alsobe qualified to work in education, public health, research, andadministration. The MATC Dental Hygiene AAS degree programwill prepare graduates to take their written national board exam,clinical exam, and the state exam required for licensure to practice.

Admission to the dental hygiene program is highly competitive,and enrollment is limited. The admissions committee chooses themost qualified applicants for admission into the program by considering the following items:

Medical Laboratory Technicians prepare and analyze specimensusing body fluids and cells. They use microscopes and othersophisticated laboratory equipment and computerized instru-ments to test and analyze results. Lab technicians usually workunder the supervision of medical and clinical laboratory technolo-gists. The Medical Laboratory Technician program is a partnershipbetween Manhattan Area Technical College and Seward CountyCommunity College (SCCC). Students enroll with SCCC for the lec-ture portion of the program, which they will access online directlyfrom SCCC. Students then enroll at MATC for the lab and clinicalportions of the training and complete these at facilities providedby MATC and regional healthcare providers.

The Surgical Technology program prepares individuals to maintain,monitor, and enforce the sterile field and adhere to aseptic tech-nique by preoperative, surgical team, and postoperative person-nel. Includes instruction in instrument and equipment sterilizationand handling; surgical supplies management; wound exposure andclosure; surgical computer and robot operation and monitoring;maintenance of hemostasis, and patient and team scrubbing. TheSurgical Technology program is a partnership between ManhattanArea Technical College and Seward County Community College(SCCC).
