EMPLOYMENT According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11, employment of teachers is expected to grow by 13% between 2008 and 2018. In 2008, there were about 3.5 million kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school teachers in the country, so we can expect almost another 500,000 to be hired by 2018. Modified: 10/19 The Masters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with a specialization in Physical Education and Health is a 33-hour program for students who are seeking initial teaching certification in Physical Education and Health. All courses are offered online. Successful completion of the program and licensure requirements will lead to a master’s degree in North Carolina Physical Education and Health Teacher Certification. The target audiences for this degree include those who wish to teach physical education and health to children in K-12 schools or adults in community college and/or outside of the United States.

Given the state of the economy in fi nding decent paying employment, many individuals have expressed an interest in seeking employment in an educational setting.

There will always be a need for great teachers. Regardless of temporary economic conditions, hiring practices, budget cuts or any other factors that impact the education system, the need for teachers is timeless and universal.

Majors have a strong foundation in science through the study of anatomy and physiology, biomechanics and motor behavior as it relates to children, physical activity and childhood obesity.

Our program is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.
