MASTER’S PROGRAMME / MASTER OF SCIENCE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION www.unige.ch/fpse THE MASTER IN SPECIAL EDUCATION provides advanced training in special support for children, adoles- cents and adults with disabilities (intellectual, motor, sensory or so- cial). The programme revolves around two issues: inclusion/exclusion processes and learning processes/cognitive intervention. Integration and rehabilitation can only succeed if persons with di- sabilities are encouraged to learn skills that enable them to move toward autonomy and self-determination. The programme therefore explores educational intervention and familiarizes students with spe- cialised services and establishments. Particular focus is placed on the relationship between theory and practice regarding learning disabilities, intellectual impairments and social maladaptation. THE MASTER IN SPECIAL EDUCATION provides advanced training in special support for children, adoles-cents and adults with disabilities (intellectual, motor, sensory or so-cial). The programme revolves around two issues: inclusion/exclusion processes and learning processes/cognitive intervention.

ADMISSION CRITERIAA Bachelor of Education, including the courses under “prequali!cation for special education”. Applicants who have not taken these courses must !rst complete the complementary certi!cate in special education (30 credits). Applicants with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a !eld other than education may be admitted upon approval by the programme committee. They must !rst obtain the complementary certi!cate in special educa-tion (30 credits) and another basic certi!cate in educa-tion (30 credits). They may receive advanced standing depending on their prior studies.

MOBILITYStudents may go on exchange regardless of how many credits they have completed at the Faculty but may earn no more than 30 credits at another university.www.unige.ch/exchange

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES• Educator in specialised services or establishments

for children, adolescents or adults with intellectual, motor, sensory or multiple disabilities;

• Educator in specialised services or establishments for children and adolescents with behavioural and social problems;

• Educator or socio-professional teacher (in combination with a Swiss advanced federal certi!cate) for the voca-tional training of adolescents and young adults with disabilities;

• Educator for the integration of persons with disabilities;• With the required experience, education manager

or director of a specialised establishment or a specialised counselling or advocacy service (E.g. Pro In!rmis, an association for parents of children with disabilities, the Red Cross) or an academic counselling service;

• Trainer in a teaching institute such as a university, college or specialised research and/or development facility.

TUITION FEES500 CHF / semesterDuring the online application process, applicants with a foreign degree will be charged an administrative fee of 65 CHF, to be deducted from the !rst-semester tuition fees.
