Master of Music—Music Education Portfolio In addition to your application to the graduate school, please submit the following to the Graduate Coordinator of the School of Music, in electronic form and/or via US mail: Demonstration of Successful Teaching Submit a digital video recording of a 20-minute demonstration of your teaching skills in a normal classroom setting or rehearsal (do not submit a concert performance) on DVD or via internet link (e.g., unlisted YouTube video link). Submit a curriculum vitae (or resume) that indicates evidence of successful teaching. Document two years of successful public school teaching or the equivalent (applicants may request a waiver for this requirement). Statement of Purpose Write a Statement of Purpose that includes two components: 1) Your philosophy of teaching, and 2) Why you would like to pursue the Masters in Music Education. Type the document and save the file as “YourLastNameFirstInitial.StatementOfPurpose” in .docx, .doc, or .pdf format (e.g., SimmonsA.StatementOfPurpose.pdf). Audition Only students applying for the M.M.-Music Education with Latin Music emphasis are required to complete a performance audition. Please contact John Lopez, Coordinator of Latin Music Studies, at [email protected] for more information. All other applicants are not required to complete a vocal or instrumental audition. Please note: Applicants are expected to have a certificate for public school music teaching and to complete a satisfactory interview with the music education coordinator.
