St Mary’s Catholic Primary School community Warracknabeal is committed to the safety

and wellbeing of all children and young people. This commitment will remain the primary focus of our care and decision-making.

Welcome to Term 3 Week 10 Mass this week is 8.30am Sunday. THANKS As the term draws to a close, I would like to thank our staff for their dedication and commitment to the learning opportunities for all our children. This has been an incredibly busy term and next term promises to be the same with Camps, excursions, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and much more. Sadly many families were affected by the loss of a family member but we also had many celebrations and achievements through students’ successes in many and varied ways. Thank you. I would also like to thank our students who always make us proud of their achievements. I believe we here at St Mary’s have exceptional students who are a delight to work with in all aspects of their personalities. Our School Advisory Council have met regularly and have assisted with our work through Policies, uniform and much more. Thank you to all for your support and hard work. Parents’ Club - The staff and our school community are very grateful to have such an active Parents’ group. These parents meet regularly and enjoy each other’s company as well as provide fundraising opportunities. Thank you to all involved with our school. We wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday break. We offer our best wishes to Miss Wilken and Sean as they celebrate their marriage during the holidays. May God’s blessings be with you both.

RECONCILIATION Once the group is established further information will be sent home. Thank you Julia and Emma for your offer of assistance. The program will commence in Term 4.

FOOTY COLOURS DAY  Footy colours day is tomorrow Friday September 20. Students are encouraged to wear their favourite team’s colours. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation and all the money raised will be donated to the Elli Martha Foundation. Also please remember this is our special lunch day. Please note that school concludes for the holidays at 2.15 pm on Friday.

GOLF TOURNAMENT  Twenty one of our students headed to the Golf Course on Tuesday to participate in a Golf Tournament. They worked in groups of 4 and were ably assisted by Mr Holland, Mrs Keam, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Mills, Mrs O’Connor and Miss Wilken. Thank you for taking the time to transport the children and also for supervising the students at the Golf Course. They returned to school eager to share their morning’s activities.

GREATER WESTERN REGION ATHLETICS CARNIVAL

Congratulations to Shannon (Hurdles and High Jump), Airlie (100 m hurdles, High Jump), Kyah (Hurdles), Amalee (Hurdles) and Seth (Long Jump and Triple Jump) who have all qualified to compete in Ballarat on Friday October 11. Well done and good luck to you all.

There are still a number of unpaid Camp costs. Clearly we have our accounts to meet. Could you please assist us to meet these commitments by attending to these accounts as soon as possible? If this presents a problem please call and speak with me. Thanks in anticipation of your quick attention to this.

NUDE FOOD

In the past we have had a high percentage of children bringing Nude Food to school. Thank you to all those families who continue this practice. However, a large quantity of packaged foods appear to have “slipped in” over time. Could we please resume our previous practices? This all adds to our sustainable integrity and more importantly, healthy eating for the children.

  NAPLAN

The students’ NAPLAN results have arrived at school. Please ring the Office in Week 1 Term 4 to make a time to discuss and pick up your child’s results. Overall this year we were generally pleased with the results of our cohort of children. Further analysis needs to take place but overall pleasing results. We have much to celebrate.

SECOND HAND CLOTHES The school is in need of some smaller sized second hand clothes, particularly boys shorts or pants. If you have any at home that are no longer needed we would be most appreciative.

Parents please note - Please let us know by 10 am if your child/children are not coming in to school on any

given day. This information needs to come through the Office please.

PARENTS PLEASE NOTE When picking your child or children up early from school, please come via the Office

and sign them out. This is a Compliance matter. Thanks in anticipation of your understanding and support..

WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS

It would be extremely helpful if all our parents and grandparents could have Working with Children Checks (in date) please. There are occasions when parents offer to help with activities at school or for excursions etc, however if the parents concerned do not have a Working With Children Check I do not have any choice but to say thanks but unfortunately not on this occasion. If you are going to apply for a Working with Children Check, you need to link this with whatever organisations you are involved with, but especially our school.

Thank you in anticipation of your continued support.

Dear Parents, Please encourage and allow your child/children to write their own lunch order. We are trying to encourage independence. Thanks.

HALLS GAP EXCURSION  On Friday September 13, 36 very excited Year Foundation, One and Twos travelled to Halls Gap to visit the Zoo. Upon arrival the students listened to a talk about reptiles and if they wished they had the chance to hold a snake. The rest of the day was spent exploring all of the amazing animals at the Zoo and having a play on the playground. A most enjoyable day was had by all. Below are some comments from some of the students - Hudson - I loved seeing the bison and the ducks that were swimming. Ella - My favourite animal at the Zoo was the owls. I liked seeing them because of the sound they made.  Chanel - I loved seeing the pigs at the Zoo.  Harlow - My favourite animal to see was the giraffe. I had a photo in front of the cage.

It is school policy that school hats must be worn during Terms 1 and 4, whenever the children are outside. Hats will be kept at school and worn in Terms 2 and 3 at the discretion of staff, (depending on the UV rating at the time).

Parents are asked to give special attention to the shoes children wear to school. The uniform regulations specify black school shoes . There must not be coloured stripes, logos or any other coloured decoration.

If children will be out of uniform, a note needs to be provided to the school.

SMART WATCHES

These watches are acceptable provided, during school hours, they are only used as a watch. There will be further discussion later in the year as to whether these watches constitute a phone.
