GUIDELINES FOR THE RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNIONFor Catholics, Holy Communion is a sharing in the Eucharist in which Christ is truly present. As such, the following guidelines apply:

For Catholics. We fully participate in the celebration of the Eucharist when we receive Holy Communion. In order to be properly disposed to receive Communion, participants should not be conscious of grave sin and normally should have fasted for one hour. A person who is conscious of grave sin is not to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord without prior sacramental confession.

For our fellow Christians. As Catholics, we believe that the celebration of the Eucharist is a sign of our oneness in faith, life and worship. Our fellow Christians who are members of churches with whom we are not yet fully united are not ordinarily invited to participate in Holy Communion. We pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit in this Eucharist will draw us closer to one another.

For those not receiving Holy Communion. All who are not receiving Holy Communion are encouraged to express in their hearts a prayerful desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one another.

For non-Christians. Although we welcome those who do not share our faith in Jesus Christ, we cannot admit them to Holy Communion, and we ask them to offer their prayers for the peace and the unity of the human family.

Letter From The Pastor

Dear Parishioners and Visitors, We celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As our Holy Father, Pope Francis stated, “No one can be excluded from the mercy of God; everyone knows the way to access it and the Church is the house where everyone is welcomed and no one is rejected. Her doors remain wide open, so that those who are touched by grace may find the assurance of forgiveness. The greater the sin, the greater the love that must be shown by the Church to those who repent. With how much love Jesus looks at us! With how much love He heals our sinful heart!” The doors of Prince of Peace Catholic Church are open to you for a renewed encounter with mercy. Let the Holy Child of Bethlehem be born in your heart each day. As you look upon the manger, call upon Him from your heart. Nourished by the Eucharist, may you become a living sign of the mercy of God. May God’s mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance this holy Christmas season and throughout the New Year 2017 – Fathers Kovanis, Augustine, McColl and Sebastian

Around the ParishTraveling Chalice

On February 3, 1943, the SS Dorchester was torpedoed a German U-Boat and 674 of the GIs on board perished in the frigid cold waters of the North Atlantic. Among the deceased were four Chaplains dedicated to serving the troops during World War II. In fact, the Four

Chaplains gave up their own life jackets to save others. The U.S. Armed Services need chaplains today to serve our troops. Won't you consider taking the Vocation Chalice home with you after weekend Mass during January or February to honor chaplains who have died in service and to pray for new men to answer Christ's call? What a wonderful way to support our dedicated men and women in Harm's Way.

Please call Tom Cummings at 625-2444 for details.

Our Lady's Pantry• PROJECT HUNGER COLLECTION

Next weekend December 31/January 1, before all Masses.

• Helping our neighbors in need of food: Christmas is always a time when we think of doing for others, and your help is needed for a special project. This December, we are having a drive to get residents of Sun City Center and Kings Point, in need of food enrolled in the food pantry. Once registered, these individuals can receive a box of groceries twice a month. If you know anyone who would benefit from this service, please call Sally Dittman at (813) 633-4647 or [email protected]

• More food for those in need: Hundreds of people came to Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Pantry for the extra distribution of food on November 11. Thanks to another anonymous donation of $500, Our Lady’s Pantry will host a second food distribution on Thursday, December 22 from 9:00-11:00 a.m., or until supplies last.

Florida Right to Life is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to foster and protect all life. The organization tracks progress being made by the Sanctity of Life movement and recently reported the following information. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) surveillance report found that abortions dropped 5% in 2013, declining by 41,057 over the previous year. This is the largest drop in abortions recorded by the CDC in more than 10 years. Also, the number of abortionists has declined about 24.6% since 1992, from 2,340 to 1,793 in 2008. Florida Right to Life also reported that the “abortion rate (the number of abortions per 1,000 women of reproductive age) and abortion ratio (the number of abortions for every 1,000 live births) are both down to their lowest recorded levels since the Supreme Court legalized

abortion in 1973.” Many factors undoubtedly contribute to these declines, including parental involvement, waiting period laws, the abstinence movement, and ultrasound viewing laws passed by many states. However, we also know that prayers by Sanctity of Life advocates and organizations play a definite role in decreasing the number of abortions. Remember, declining abortions represent lives saved.

All parishioners are invited to join our parish’s prayer team that goes to the Fletcher Abortion Clinic for a prayer vigil on the second Saturday of each month. The team goes to the 8:00 a.m. Mass, is blessed and dismissed by the presiding priest, and carpools to Fletcher for about an hour and a half reverent prayer vigil using prayer booklets prepared for the vigil. Those wishing to participate should bring lawn chairs. For further information contact Paul or Lou Carren, 813-633-9260.

Due to popular demand, we will show one last segment of The Wild Goose is Loose, a video series about the Holy Spirit. If you have never attended and would like to learn more about the Holy Spirit, come check it out! If you have attended before, we hope to see you again! Tuesday, January 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Rooms 1 and 2. For more information please contact Diane Blenke.

Please note that there will be no session on December 27.

Publications DeadlineAll submissions for the January 8, 15, 22 and 29 publications must be received

by 12:00 p.m. no later than Friday, December 30. Submissions should be submitted via Prince of Peace website:
