1. September 2014 Admissions
(a)On 1st September, 2014 Academic Division
successfully and without hitches de-centralized
the admission at Faculty level of 1st year
registration which went on smoothly. Academic
activities e.g. registration, students elections are
decentralized to faculties.
(b)On 5th September 2014, Academic Division
carried out Orientation of 1st year students
successfully.
(c)On 2nd October 2014 Academic Division
organized VC’s address to 1st year students in
Kaimosi Friends University College in a colorful
style.

2. Launch of Campuses
(a)On 27th March 2015 the Academic Division
successfully participated in the launch of
Webuye Campus.

3. Library Books
(a)On 10th April 2015 the Deputy Vice Chancellor
(ASA) received a donation of 750 Books on
behalf of the University.
(b) The books were donated by Mrs. Jessica
Shibutse to Bungoma Campus.
(c)Bungoma Campus has now a well stocked
Library.

4. Workshop for Deans & CODS
(a) On 28th – 29th April 2015, Academic Division
successfully conducted an Induction Course for
Academic Senior staffs on “Duties and
Responsibilities of Deans and Chair of Academic
Department (CODS)” at Bishop Stam.

5. Senate approved Eighty Eight (88) Science and Technology
Programmes
(a)Academic Division developed and reviewed a total of all the 156
Programmes inline with CUE guidelines.
(b)Eighty Eight (88) of them have so far been approved by Senate on
the dates indicated.

7. Students Elections
(a) On 8th May 2015 Students Elections were decentralized to faculties and it
was done peacefully and smooth. Swearing in was done on 13th May 2015.

8. Conference and Workshops
• The Deputy Vice Chancellor (ASA) chaired the Workshop to evaluate the
Curriculum of Medicine by Kenya Medical Advisory Board (MAB) at Golf
Hotel on 6th – 7th March 2015.
• On 18th March 2015, Academic Division successfully conducted “Career
Preparedness in Global Society” Week. DVC (ASA) gave speech
stressing on importance of every career just as all Degree courses are
important.
• On 26th – 29th March 2015, Academic Division successfully organized the
Tamasha Cultural Festival Week, where the Deputy Vice chancellor (ASA)
addressed students on “Harnessing Talent of Cultural Values in the
Realization of Vision 2013”

International Conferences(a) On 9th - 12th June 2015 the Faculty of Education
successfully organized an International Conference at
Bishop Stam. Theme was “New Paradigms in National
and International Security: The Role of National and
County Governance, Education, Science Technology
and the Media”. DVC (ASA) gave opening remarks.
(b) On 13th – 14th August 2015 Centre for Disaster
Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CDMHA)
successfully organized an International GIS Conference
conducted at Bishop Stam. The theme was “The expanding
of theoretical and applied roles of GIS in a Dynamic
Global Environment. . DVC (ASA) gave opening remarks.

Prayer Day
On 29th May 2015, Academic Division successfully
organized Inter-Faith Prayer day whose theme
was “The family that prays together stays
together in peace and harmony” at the
graduation square. Clothes and money were
collected and taken to the attacked Garissa
University students who are now at Moi University.

9. Webo Metric Ranking For Universities and
Higher Institutions in Kenya
(a)MMUST was ranked position Eight (8) out of
the Sixty Seven (67) Institutions. Ranking was
based on Publications, Citations and Internet
Visibility.
(b) MMUST is doing well on Internet visibility.

10.External Examinations
(a)Academic Division successfully scheduled
External Examiners Session for 1st , 2nd , and
3rd year for 2014/2015 Academic year which
took place between 2nd – 7th August 2015
where External Examiners reported and did
externalization.
(b)Students are expected to receive their
provisional results after reporting for
2015/2016 Academic Year i.e after 7th of
September 2015.

11. Wardenship Interviews
On 7th August 2015, Academic Division
successfully organized and interviewed Hostel
Wardens who will be assigned to Main Campus,
Bungoma and Webuye Campuses.

12.Accreditation of Engineering Programmes
by EBK
(a)Academic Division in consultation with Faculty
of Engineering is running consultative
meetings to address EBK concerns.
(b)The EBK concerns include: Thematic Leaders,
engaging Qualified Staff, Laboratories and
workshops and Engineering Equipment.
(c)The meetings are chaired by DVC (ASA). They
are scheduled for 10th , 14th, 18th and 21st
August 2015 for final report writing to EBK.

Challenges in Academic Division
(a) Part time teaching staff are on go slow due to delayed
payment of their dues.
(b) Acute Shortage of Teaching staff in the following
Departments:- Computer Science, Faculty of
Engineering, Optometry and Visual Sciences, Curriculum
Instruction and Technology, Educational Foundations,
Educational Psychology, History, Geography and
Religion.
(c) Inadequate Equipment in the Laboratories in the Faculty
of Engineering.
(d) Lack of adequate Computers in Computer Science
Laboratories has led to suspension of some Computer
Science Courses for two (2) Academic Years now.
(2013/2014 and 2014/2015).

(e) Inadequate accommodation on campus forces over 9000
students to stay off campus; Need for PPP in construction of
hostels on campus. This will enable adequate management
of student welfare activities.
(f) Inadequate lecture and laboratory space has forced
MMUST to hire additional space in Kakamega town. This is
expensive and challenging.
(g) Inadequate lecture chairs; This forces students to move
with chairs from one lecture room to another. We need an
additional of 4000 lecture chairs.
(h) Students fee collections is a big challenge; There is need
for a system which will accurately and timely capture and
send to Departments fee payments.
2015/2016 Reporting Dates
The Academic Division is making preparations for
receiving the 2015/2016 Academic Year 1st y ear students
who will report as follows:-
(a) Bungoma and Webuye Campuses – on 27th August ,
2015
(b) Kaimosi University College – 28th August ,2015
(c) MMUST Main Campus – 31st August 2015.
(d) Continuing students except Engineering students report
on 7th September 2015.
(e) Expected number of all students – September –
December Semester 11,000.
