Clubs

Athletics: Many 6th graders will get involved in the intramural program during the after school 10th period. Boys and girls who are interested in playing sports but are not on an Inter-scholastic team may stay after school and play one of several activities. Activities include: soccer, football, basketball, softball, volleyball, and others. Inter-scholastic Sports start with 7th and 8th grade. Many 6th graders may participate in sports programs run through the Perinton Recreation Department, YMCA or they may join one or more of the after school clubs. Teacher Help: Students can also stay after with teachers to get extra help or to get a good start on their homework. There is a late bus that comes for students at about 3:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Students taking the bus will get a pass from the supervising teacher.

Students will have three minutes to switch from class to class. No backpacks are allowed in the hall except coming to and leaving the school. Please no running or horseplay in the halls.

Student Time Schedule:

School begins at 7:55 and ends at 2:40. There are 9 periods in a day. Each class is 40 minutes long. There are 4 minutes in between classes.

Classes: All 6th Graders take Reading, English, Social Studies, Science, & Math. A student’s schedule consists of nine periods. Physical education is all year long, every other day opposite health for twenty weeks. The second twenty weeks PE runs every other day opposite music. All students will take Art for 20 weeks and Home & Careers and Art for 20 weeks.

Homework: The average amount of homework is about 1 to 1½ hours per day. Often you get time to start homework in class.

Cell phones Cell phones are not allowed in classrooms unless directed to bring them in by a teacher. Students must comply with all areas of the Code of Conduct and our district’s Acceptable Use Policy regarding internet use and the use of technology (computers) in our schools.

Lockers: A place to keep your books, projects, backpack, jacket, & lunch. Lockers can be decorated. Combinations will need to be memorized & not given to anyone!

Report Cards: Numeric grades will be provided every 10 weeks via Parent Portal.

Lunch: 40-minute period, current cost is $2.75 or bring your own lunch. Students may sit anywhere in the dining hall with friends.

Hats & Backpacks: No hats or backpacks allowed 7:55 am - 3:30 pm.

Late Busses: There is a late bus on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday that comes at about 3:30 p.m. for students that stay after with a teacher or played an intramural sport.

Planner: Students will receive a planner in the beginning of the year. The planner is used to record assignments and upcoming projects, tests, and quizzes. Built into the planner is the hallway pass system and various resources for students to use. The planner can be a great communication tool between home and school.

MB Information

On the first day of school students should go straight to their homeroom. Students will receive their team placement in the mail, about the third week of August. At that time, additional information and supply lists will be available on our website. Sixth grade teachers will host an open house before school starts. At the open house, locker combinations will be made available and students can tour the building during this time.

Sixth grade consists of three teams: Red, White and Blue. Each team has its own hallway with the classrooms & the team lockers in close proximity to each other. Students will usually work with two or three teachers on the team, but the other teachers on the team will sometimes coordinate activities or combined projects with your class.

Small Groups Students that share similar issues have the opportunity to discuss their concerns together in a 6 week counseling group facilitated by the Mental Health Staff. The topics may include:
