Market Outlook The Week That Was Week Ahead Local stocks ended with strong gains in the week gone on sustained buying across sectors. The Sensex regained the 39,000 mark. The secondary indices outperformed the key benchmark indices. Stocks gained on foreign investor buying, progress in US-China trade talks and deal being reached on Brexit. In the week ended on Friday, 18 October 2019, the Sensex rose 1,171.30 points or 3.07% to settle at 39,298.38. The Nifty 50 index rose 360.60 points or 3.19% to settle at 11,661.85. The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 639.26 points or 4.64% to settle at 14,420.25. The BSE Small-Cap index rose 354.76 points or 2.78% to settle at 13,126.83. Key benchmark indices ended with decent gains on Monday, 14 October 2019. Domestic shares tracked strength in other Asian stock markets which rose after progress on US-China trade talks. The barometer index, the BSE Sensex, rose 87.39 points or 0.23% to 38,214.47. The Nifty 50 index rose 36.10 points or 0.32% to 11,341.15. On the domestic macro front, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation, base year 2011-12, dipped further down to 39-months low of 0.3% in September 2019 from 1.1% in August 2019. The WPI based inflation has been moderating consistently for last five straight months from 3.2% in April 2019. The data was unveiled during trading hours on Monday, 14 October 2019. The general consumer price index (CPI) inflation rose to 3.99% in September 2019, compared with 3.28% in August 2019. The corresponding provisional inflation rate for rural area was 3.24% and urban area 4.78% in September 2019 as against 2.25% and 4.49% in August 2019 . India's industrial production (IIP) declined 1.1% in August 2019, while snapping consistent growth for last 25 straight months. Also, the pace of decline in industrial production was highest in August 2019 for 2011-12 base year data. As per the revised data for industrial production of July 2019, the growth is higher at 4.6% compared with 4.3% growth reported provisionally. The data was announced after market hours on Friday, 11 October 2019. Meanwhile, the World Bank cut its economic growth forecast for India to 6% for the current fiscal from its April projection of 7.5%, citing a broad- based and severe cyclical slowdown. Growth is expected to gradually recover to 6.9% in 2020-21 and to 7.2% the following year, the bank said in its South Asian Economic Focus report released on Sunday. India's cyclical slowdown is severe, the bank noted. Moody's Investors Service on Thursday, 10 October 2019, cut India's gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for 2019-20 to 5.8% from the earlier estimate of 6.2%. It attributed the deceleration to an investment-led slowdown that has broadened into consumption, driven by financial stress among rural households and weak job creation. It expects growth to pick up to 6.6% in FY21 and around 7% over the medium term. Corporate earnings to be watched Financial results of India Inc for the quarter ended 30 September 2019 will be closely watched in the truncated trading week ahead. Domestic stock markets will remain closed on Monday, 21 October 2019 on account of Assembly Elections in Maharashtra. Macroeconomic data, trend in global markets, the movement of rupee against the dollar and crude oil price movement, inflows from foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) will also be closely watched. Among key results, HDFC Bank will declare its quarterly result on 19 October 2019. Bharti Infratel, Hindustan Zinc and UltraTech Cement will announce their quarterly results on 21 October 2019. Technical View Sensex Outlook (39298) During the last week Sensex has broken trend line resistance of 38513 and given a sharp breakout up to 39361. Its immediate support is likely to be seen around 38800 to 38500 for next week. Its resistance is likely to be seen around 39500 and 39900 for next week. During the last week Nifty has broken trend line resistance of 11420 and given a sharp breakout up to 11685. Its immediate support is likely to be seen around 11520 to 11420 for next week. Its resistance is likely to be seen around 11730 and 11800 for next week. Bank Nifty has moved above previous swing high on the daily chart. The rise in price was backed by decent increase in volume. During the last week Nifty has broken trend line resistance of 28760 and given a sharp breakout up to 29250. Its immediate support is likely to be seen around 28800 to 28500 for next week. Its resistance is likely to be seen around 29750 and 30350 for next week. During the last week USDINR has made a lower top formation and closed below 20 DEMA of 71.27. Its immediate support is likely to be seen around 70.90 and 70.50 for next week. Its resistance is likely to be seen around 71.50 and 71.90 for next week. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reduced India's growth forecast for FY20 by 90 basis points to 6.1%, down from the 7% estimated in July. Meanwhile, the growth forecast for FY21, which stood at 7.2% in July, was slashed by 20 bps to 7%. The downward revision in India's growth forecast by the IMF reflects a weaker-than-expected outlook for domestic demand. Monetary policy easing and the recent corporate tax rate cuts are to support growth with a lag, the IMF said. Government programs to support rural consumption will also aid growth, it added. Overseas, the US on Monday, 14 October 2019 agreed to postpone an increase in tariffs from 25% to 30% on at least $250 billion of Chinese goods, which had been scheduled for Tuesday, 15 October 2019. However, customs data showed that China's import and export figures were worse than expected in September, with exports falling 3.2% on the year in US dollar terms, while imports declined 8.5%. US Federal Reserve announced that it would buy $60 billion of Treasury bills every month at least into the second-quarter, starting from next week. The central bank also said it would conduct overnight repurchase agreements at least through January of next year in order to reduce pressures in funding markets. On Wednesday, 16 October 2019, South Korea's central bank cut its interest rate for the second time in three months on Wednesday, following its first cut in July. The news of Brexit deal came on Thursday, 17 October 2019. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said the deal was a "fair and balanced" one. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson now goes to Brussels for a two-day summit with EU leaders. The prospective deal will need approval from British lawmakers in parliament at the weekend. On Friday, 18 October 2019, China's Gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 6% in third quarter ended September 2019, compared with 6.2% in the second quarter. The Chinese economy grew at 6.6% in 2018. China posted its weakest growth in nearly three decades. However, the Industrial Production rose 5.8% year-on-year in September, after growth of 4.4% in August. Meanwhile, consumer spending, as represented by retail sales, rose 7.8% year-on-year in September. US industrial production fell by 0.4% in September after climbing by an upwardly revised 0.8% in August, the Federal Reserve released a report on Thursday. Market Outlook

The Week That Was

Week Ahead

Local stocks ended with strong gains in the week gone on sustained buying

across sectors. The Sensex regained the 39,000 mark. The secondary indices

outperformed the key benchmark indices. Stocks gained on foreign investor

buying, progress in US-China trade talks and deal being reached on Brexit.

In the week ended on Friday, 18 October 2019, the Sensex rose 1,171.30

points or 3.07% to settle at 39,298.38. The Nifty 50 index rose 360.60 points

or 3.19% to settle at 11,661.85.

The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 639.26 points or 4.64% to settle at 14,420.25.

The BSE Small-Cap index rose 354.76 points or 2.78% to settle at 13,126.83.

Key benchmark indices ended with decent gains on Monday, 14 October

2019. Domestic shares tracked strength in other Asian stock markets which

rose after progress on US-China trade talks. The barometer index, the BSE

36.10 points or 0.32% to 11,341.15.

On the domestic macro front, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based

inflation, base year 2011-12, dipped further down to 39-months low of

0.3% in September 2019 from 1.1% in August 2019. The WPI based inflation

has been moderating consistently for last five straight months from 3.2% in

April 2019. The data was unveiled during trading hours on Monday, 14

October 2019.
