Scope (phase1 feasibility) To include Front End Engineering Design with the aim of determining the viability from both a technical and economic viewpoint of constructing the first 100% Hydrogen network.
Method Three feasibility studies that will run concurrently - All three studies will have the same scope but will be conducted in different locations with very different existing and potential network features.
Study one - Levenmouth, Fife .
Study two –MACC Developments Ltd, Machrihanish Airbase
Study 3 – Aberdeen conference Centre, Aberdeen

Objective 29TWh of low carbon heat per annum equating to saving:
CO2e of 120 million tonnes 2.5 million cars removed from roads
.
© Cadent Gas Ltd 2017
The majority of domestic consumers will not change their existing heating provision unless significant financial benefits will be accrued, and only then if they have funding available..... If their current system was operating well and providing heat for their homes they would not change their heating systems and spend money unnecessarily.

Customer engagement is a priority for the project team.
Safeguarded by Keele’s Ethics Committee and OFGEM.
Trial designed for minimal disruption, share learning from
‘Opening up the Gas Networks’ NIC at Oban.
Safety is paramount. Programme managed by Health &
Safety Laboratory, and injection trials can only commence if
the HSE is satisfied with the scientific evidence base.
Trial customers will be protected by conservative declared
billing arrangements.

About Northern Gas Networks
2.7 • 2.7million - the number of customers that
we serve.
37,000 • 37,000km - the length of pipe that
we own, which is equivalent to Leeds to Sydney and back again.
25,000 • 25,000km2 - the area we serve
spanning large urban centres of population and sparse rural areas.
470GWh
70GWh
• 470GWh is our peak day demand during winter.
• 70GWh is the storage we have available to balance our system each day.
