● Marietta Middle School is an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program School serving almost 1,400 students in 7th and 8th grade.
● MMS is committed to growing the whole child by implementing 7 Mindsets and PBIS.
● MMS offers specialized arts electives and 9-week exploratory mini-courses.
● MMS provides students opportunities to earn high school credit in various courses.
What is the Middle Years Programme
● The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), for students aged 11 to 16, is designed as an inclusive, whole-school programme by the International Baccalaureate (IB).
● At the core of all IB Programmes is the learner profile, 10 attributes fostered in students that promote their development as responsible members of their local, national and global communities. IB learners strive to be inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.
● In the MYP, students study 8 subject groups, with a minimum of 50 teaching hours per subject group each year. Language A, Language B, Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities, Arts, Physical Education, Technology

to evaluate information critically and apply knowledge incomplex, unfamiliar situations.

LAUNCHWhat do we do?Launch period runs from 7:30 am - 8:00 am and provides our students opportunities to begin their day in a calm, focused, and organized manner.
Although the official school start time is 7:45 am, most of our students are on campus by 7:30 am. Car riders are encouraged to participate for the duration of Launch period, but must be in class no later than 7:45 am.
Why does it matter?During Launch period, students will participate in activities that support both social and academic development.
On Mondays (known as Mindset Mondays), we follow the 7 Mindsets curriculum. This is a researched-based curriculum that takes students on a journey of how to lead productive and happy lives.
Students typically participate in the Reading Plus program on Tuesday - Friday. This online program adapts to the reading level of all learners (through grade 12) and provides them with ongoing reading exercises to strengthen their fluency and comprehension levels.
7 Mindsets and PBIS 7 Mindsets
The 7 Mindsets are a comprehensive blueprint for happiness, intentionality and success, written in simple, powerful language to teach and activate success strategies for people to live the lives of their dreams. We start Monday mornings helping students learn that Everything is Possible when you Dream Big, putting their Passion First, showing them how We Are All Connected and 100% Accountable for our futures, sharing our Attitude of Gratitude, knowing how to Live to Give, and understanding that The Time Is Now to make dreams come true.
PBIS: The Blue Devil StandardThe Blue Devil Standard is derived from the IB Learner Profile; it is a collection of standards we expect all students to uphold. The Blue Devil Standard provides us ‘common ground’ so that we can uphold a positive learning environment for EVERYONE!
Students that demonstrate the Blue Devil Standard earn privileges (noted below) and set themselves up for academic success.
Pearson enVision Math 2.0
What is it?Marietta City Schools recently adopted a new mathematics program, Pearson enVision for students in grades K-11. Pearson enVision is equipped with rich and engaging resources that include a textbook and a digital platform that can be accessed in the classroom or from home at www.PearsonRealize.com.
At Home SupportParents can access information on Pearson Realize by logging in with their child’s credentials.

High School Level Courses
What high school level courses does my child have?
● French/Spanish IAB (7th or 8th grade)● Native Speaker Spanish IAB (8th only)● French/Spanish IIAB (8th only)● AC Algebra/Geometry A* (8th only)● AC Physical Science* (8th only)● Health (8th only)
* Students take a Milestones End of Course (EOC) exam that accounts for 20% of the final grade.
What does this mean for my student?
These courses earn Carnegie Unit credit which counts towards high school graduation.
● The grade for the course will appear on the high school transcript.
● The course grade is NOT included in the high school Grade Point Average (GPA).
● Students may not decline credit for these courses, and students will not be allowed to retake the course at the high school if credit is earned.
Exploratory Wheel Courses
What is it?Courses on the exploratory wheel occur on a nine-week rotation (by quarter).
Why does it matter?The purpose of the approach is multi-faceted:
1. Allows students to enter courses at various times of the year
2. Provides a preview of MHS career pathways
3. Better ensures students meet IB MYP requirements
4. Promotes greater engagement for students seeking a wider range of experiences

What is it?
Marietta City Schools is now using Schoology, an integrated learning management solution that provides course management, mobile learning, and support for communication. Schoology enables our students, parents, and teachers to engage with learning materials and their school community from the classroom and beyond. We look forward to using Schoology in our classrooms starting this school year to enhance connectivity and communication.
